I just have to ask - - - how do you (and others) go about finding such things? I'm asking because I'd sort of like to join the hunt.

I just love exploring outside of the stations, and I use the Out of bounds remover mod because it removes most of the invisible walls from the game so its easier to explore. But I dont think you need that for this one.

This one has probably crossed the line. I'm not offended by it but I can imagine a kid finding it and their parents not being impressed. I expect that this easter egg was made by one person at Rivet Games, and that Rivet didn't know and DTG certainly didn't, and what is seen as an insensitive joke slipped through. This is a burial pit not unlike the ones currently popping up in Ukraine and joking about it here is the sort of thing myself and my friends would only do as a dark joke, but remove before releasing it to the public.

I get where you are coming from, but honestly, if a kid has enough brain capacity to play a train simulator, then they can clearly handle a joke like this as well. I mean I used to play both MSTS and GTA games when I was like under 10.

While it is true that I not expected to see something like this in TSW, I find it a great easter egg.

There must be some sort of internal competition of who can create the strangest hidden scenery tiles on the Scottish routes. First a UFO, now a shallow grave with human bodies (I think). What's next, Jesus giving his sermon to the local picts on the back of a unicorn?

    Cheers

DTG JD surely this kinda thing shouldn't be in the game? It kinda depicts violence in a way and goes against dtg rules. I for one dont like it at all.

Personally, I think it's hilarious and have to applaud an utterly unexpected Easter egg. But I guess I can understand those who feel that this crosses the family-friendly line.

Another possibility, of course, is that this is in fact completely accurate. Is there anyone here who lives near enough this cemetery to swing by and have a look?

I took this line a couple days ago and don't recall seeing any half-buried bodies near the tracks. They might only come to life at night though.

I agree with those saying it shouldn’t be in a train simulator. Resident Evil, yes! TSW 3, not so much. Too creepy.

It's a bit macabre, but it doesn't necessarily depict violence. It does seem kinda out of place though.

    It’s weird.

I’m not remotely offended by it but honestly, what is with this nonsense? I’d be concerned about the person that put it there personally as it’s totally inappropriate.

Rivet´s court jester doesn´t seem to follow the news.
    It´s just bad taste.
Or maybe just scott-ish dark humor?

My wife’s Scottish, and this ain’t no Scottish humour I’ve ever seen!

Very sadly we’re burying my father next week. People play games to sometimes escape a bit. As I said, I’m not remotely offended (and frankly, it wouldn’t matter at all if I was) but in my opinion it is a VERY strange thing to put into a train simulator.

Presumably whoever did it thinks it’s funny and edgy. It isn’t.

There are dozens of beautiful things related to trains and they choose to put something so macabre. Is there a mental problem there?

Aren’t these just characters spawning from the ground rather than going in like a war crime? When you see them walking on the platforms at stations it looks like this would be their origin story. It just the first time we are seeing it depicted.

Same here. I'm not offended or anything but this is a very strange thing to put in a train simulator. Definitely a different kind of joke compared to previous easter eggs and mastery thingies.

Don't DTG have like a "sanctity of life" policy? They said that it is for that reason they kick you out of the game if you SPAD or derail...

Can't see that Scotrail would be too happy with this given how sensitive the railway companies are about death around the railway. The last thing we want is the licence holders withdrawing or refusing licences to DTG. Worst case it might be something that has to be declared to and may effect the games content classification/rating. 18+ train simulator!

Didn't DTG withdraw Trains versus Zombies on TS Classic for similar reasons

I bet there is a "So that happens to the people on the forum that XYZ" hidden in there, but I can't find it, burried to deep.

But either way, when I clicked on this thread, I didn't expect this in the slightest.

And I agree: Bit out of place, but for everyone saying it's not for a family friendly game; have you watched any kids show on Disney Channel or similar these days ? There are some jokes in for the parents that are way off the lines here.

Well, if it isn't today's editions of the forums overreacting to everything.

I mean, at face value it's harmless. It's NPCs placed as if they are dead, in a cemetery. If the dead is an issue for you, surely a burial site with tombstones is an equal representation.

This will probably be a reference to Burke & Hare, as well as the grave robbings of the early-mid 1800s.
For those who aren't aware, in this period, Edinburgh, with its many institutions and great minds, became something of a centre for Anatomical (mainly Human Anatomy) studies. To this end, demand outnumbered supply, and bodies became hard to get. Scottish Law dictated that bodies could only come from those who died in prison, has commited suicide, or children who were abandoned or orphaned. Yeah, pretty sickening. Edinburgh, and places along the central belt such as Linlithgow itself had, over time, developed large cemetery's through a steady population over decades. It became something of a gold mine for the body snatchers. They would go into these sites, at night, dig up a grave, extract the body and sell it for something of a premium. This lead to 'Mortsafes' being developed, which were metal cages built above the graves, to prevent access to them. A good example would be Edinburgh's famous Greyfriars cemetery.

Burke and Hare, on the other hand, took it to a new extreme, killing the living and selling their bodies. They are what most people think of when it comes to this period of body snatching.
In 1832 Parliament passed the Anatomy Act which made donating your body possible, but this didn't do enough.

So, history lesson over, and you can see why rivet (or perhaps a rogue dev) have included this. I hardly think it crosses the line when Train Simulator has had Halloween DLCs dedicated to zombies (pulled or not, they still existed for quite a while), and this is simply an easter egg, albeit a dark one, on a 40 odd mile route.

As for the comparison to Ukraine - how, just how, does that make sense in anyone's head? Death happens everywhere. This is a very subtle depiction of it, no gore or anything shown, just assets placed in a cemetery, a place of rememberance and death.

Finally, to respond to one specific post:
I mean, ScotRail can have their opinion but at the end of the day it's bodies in a cemetery. I highly doubt TOCs will be bothered largely if you have someone lying in a grave, in a cemetery.

And this would not be grounds for the game's rating to go up. Death is depicted in Minecraft and Roblox, for goodness sake, a set of kids games. I'm sure we're all mature enough to deal with someone lying on the ground.

I discovered modern parenting wants to "protect" their children from everything "bad" and stuff with death. Burrying people is still a tradition and death is part of life if you like it or not.

I dont have a problem with the cementary of rivet, its not political nor does it point into the direction of a crime.

It would seem like anything and everything has to be made into a mountainous social or political issue now, and the number of people that can see the way bigger picture of its a bloody piece of software code and can't impact their lives in any way is slowly shrinking..........
