Yes you've read the title right, last night at about 8:20 pm until 10:15 pm I was in for a treat. At about 10:05 pm the starlink came into our view. For a minute I thought it was a Galaxy but still was not let down. It was truly amazing to see. (Image Above is Ceres, Haumea, and Makemake).
Stunning! I actually got pictures of yesterday’s Starlink flyover at around 11PM as well! I’m assuming we saw the same bunch of satellites (Starlink 2-10), which were still quite close together due to launching less than 24 hours before. Here are the three exposures I got:
I think its the same one. Only one I saw running on Stuff In Space and also was doing a circle around the globe. Passed me and went straight on through the Atlantic and into the USA.
Absolutely. The Starlinks are pretty hard to see and spread quickly after launch nowadays, so it’s very very unlikely to see them that close together for more than a few days. There’s another flyover tonight at my location, hoping for good weather and clear skies!
...awesome how Elon Musk changed the world. I've also seen a satellite chain like this before. If you consider that they are traveling at around 25,000 km/h, they can orbit the earth in 60 minutes, like the ISS. BTW: night photography is not easy, it's great when you can take useful pictures!
my camera is good but when it gets pointed at something in the sky it's a different story. Just look at my first photos of the moon! I know what you're thinking. It just looks like a star. Have gotten better over time but still room for improvement. Got some telescopes I haven't had time to use. Would've used them yesterday but would've took me forever to set things up.
I think that's the overexposure effect. The moon is just too bright for normal camera settings. That's why a single-lens reflex camera is usually used for professional night shots. Even with this, the full moon can be photographed very badly with normal settings, only with a long exposure time and special aperture settings can you still get it quite well.
Yeah it’s quite tricky! I personally use an app called NightCap. Allows me to adjust tons of stuff and get good moon & satellite imagery just with a smartphone and tripod.
Yep! Kinda creepy at first cuz you don't know what it is. Like for me. Definitely better than something paranormal like on skinwalker ranch.
I’m quite sure that’s an airplane! By the way, no luck with tonight’s Starlink flyover for me… clouds
Nice, have just got into Astronomy, have been looking for a beginner telescope. Had a great view of the beehive cluster the other night through binoculars, just this got me hooked. Actually thinking about purchasing the Dwarf 2 electronic telescope and having a crack at astrophotography. Seems good value. Looking at galaxies that are millions or billions of light years away messes with my brain! Incredible. Apparently there's a supernova right now in the pinwheel galaxy, doesn't happen that often for us to see!
