Decided just to do some trainspotting this morning by hanging out on the platforms of Kurzburg in the early morning. The number and variety of trains is stunning. And they use ALL the platforms. This couldn't have been easy to map out and implement. Outstanding job by Joethefish and anyone else who contributed The train sim products have evolved from just being a train driver to a more fully immersive interactive experience.
It is impressive but it also consumes a lot of computing power - and I think that's the main reason people are having trouble with dire frame rates, even on PS5 and good PCs. In the end this is a train driving not a train spotting simulation and a smooth driving experience should be the priority. If I want to go trainspotting I'll head down the road to Crewe...
But also for many, a smooth driving experience at the cost of a dead world with little AI may not be a worthy tradeoff. Maybe there's an opportunity here to add a settings option for AI service volume so the player can set their own preferences? Just like there is for foliage and sky? But I have no idea how the dispatcher works. If the services are strictly timetable based, then it would seem the removal of services for improved frame rate would be easy. However, if there are cascading dependencies on the existence of services (such as proper signal values and arrival times into stations), then this may be a bridge too far. Unfortunately for me, Crewe is 5000 miles away so TSW3 is my best option.
