I'm very pleased with how my signal material looks and works. I'm going to thank DTG Matt once again for a very hot tip about using the distance node in the emissive channel. I'm a little worried about the shader complexity, but I hope I won't need to simplify it too much in the final version. I'm not going to hoard this knowledge for myself, either; here's a look at the material! (Edited to add: I don't expect I'm done tweaking it here or there, either )
