I've been playing TS on my rustbucket of a PC for 2 years now, its on the lowest graphical settings and Dynamic lighting turned off; achieving around 15fps. So I decided to upgrade but as a Uni student its difficult, I am custom building a PC with PCSPECIALISTS and these are my current choices:

    CPU - Intel core i5 6 core processor i5-9400F 2.9GHz

    RAM - 8GB Corsair Vengeance DD4

    Graphics card - 4GB AMD RADEON RX550

    256GB storage

I just want to run TS at decent graphics and FPS (Dynamic lighting turned on!) And I have very limited knowledge on computers so any help would be appreciated!

Around £500, could go up to £600 but it would be a stretch

I looked into some PCs on Curry's and Amazon and I found these 2, once again I'm no expert on PCs and most of these just look like numbers to me,

    https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gamin...tx-1650-1-tb-hdd-256-gb-ssd-10205565-pdt.html

Not too keen on the Core intel i3 on that one

And I'll take a look at your recommendations on pcspecialists

TS makes poor use of multi-core processors so an i3 with a higher clock speed might be cheaper and better. Core for core it's nip and tuck between Intel and AMD at the moment with Intel just having the edge but only just and overall Ryzen CPUs are better VFM and offer better future prospects for upgrading. (TS might not use multiple cores but can benefit from them indirectly running uninterrupted by Windows and background tasks.)

Should do but, even for TS, 16 would be better. You don't mention speed- Ryzen CPUs in particular benefit from faster RAM. (Again, although TS makes fairly modest demands on memory, the system as a whole could benefit from the extra headroom for Windows and whatever else may be running.)

Pretty basic but anything is better than nothing. As with CPUs TS doesn't make best use of modern GPUs but, broadly speaking, more is better and it can be upgraded in future if the opportunity arises. Determine what screen resolution you want to run at and be sure to get a card capable of it.

Sounds low. My system has TS, video editing software and office software installed and not an awful lot else and the 240GB system drive is... well it's not worryingly full but when I bought TSW last year there was no question but that it had to go on the secondary drive. I don't think my TS install is uncommonly large but if it gets much bigger I'll be getting another SSD for it and TSW.

The above is skewed towards TS but presumably you want this system to be good for other things. Especially if your other uses include newer games I'd think about them and let TS look after itself- it will still run well on any decent all-round system and compromising everything else for what would be marginal improvements in one old program is the wrong approach IMHO.

Lastly it should be noted that it's a lousy time to be getting a new PC or new parts at the moment with the plague affecting productivity and the scalpers having a field day. If you can bear with the rust bucket for a little longer your budget may stretch a little further. You don't describe your current system- perhaps if you did others could offer advice about getting more out of it.

    Thank you so much for all this help, and I should've said earlier, my current system is;

    Intel core i5-2400 Processor
Intel HD graphics 620 unknown specification graphics card
    6GM RAM
and runs windows 7 and still takes around 20 minutes to boot up!

Yeah I have tried that, currently I only use Edge and TS but it is still painfully slow, and I also use it for Uni work so I need to have other stuff on it (especially during covid where virtual learning is at an all time high) so I think I'll have to buy a new one anyway, I looked into simply getting new hardware for it but its so outdated I think a new PC would just be the best option altogether

Btw I currently have the dell Vostro 460

The integrated graphics solution is far from ideal- not good in the first place and it will use system RAM so some of that 6GB will be effectively lost and the processing and graphics will be playing After You Claude for memory access getting in each other's way. Now I started running TS on a laptop with only integrated HD graphics available (an i3 actually) and obviously no chance to upgrade. Depending on the route it could run quite smoothly- granted most of the graphics settings were on the peg and there were inevitable slow-downs when things were busy or the scenery complicated. I wouldn't want to go back to that but it was good enough to be enjoyable.

You don't mention if it's a desktop system- if so is there scope to add a graphics card?

    This though...
Honestly that sounds to me as if something's broken. The last computer I used that took that long to load anything used tapes as storage. Maybe it's overheating or the HD is on the way out. I hope you have everything backed up. If not get everything backed up.

I have got all my important files and documents backed up and copied onto a USB, like I said, it's a rust bucket that my dad bought second hand many years ago. Surprised it still works to be honest

It might not be worth adding a GPU but could benefit from a once over. You can look for yourself to see if it's dusty. Thermal compound between the CPU and cooler can degrade over time (you can probably find freeware to monitor component temperature if you don't already have the tools). A new storage drive could make a difference and should still be useful if you end up with a new system.

Yup that is what I was asking suggestions for, I have found this prebuilt on amazon and do you think it would be worth it? Well within my price range as well

Just click on this and it should link you to the amazon page

Vega 8 is AMD's integrated graphics system. It's considerably better than Intel's but probably still no substitute for a GPU. That said there's a slot for a card so you could put up with lower graphics settings and add a GPU when funds allow. The 400W PSU might limit your options there.

I'd still see about a bigger system drive. If you can ask about the RAM too- if there are free memory slots on the motherboard it leaves you the option to increase the RAM without having to discard what you already have.

    Plus
It is a micro-ATX board and some GPu's may not fit and it only has 2 RAM slots (can take 32 GB) I would say that rig is an adequate business computer not really designed for games.

I got my PC built by a local computer shop: could that be an option?
