Since I downloaded TSW 5 and experienced all sorts of issues trying to set it up the way I wanted, I've decided that I'm done with train sims. TSW's no fun for me any more, so TSW 5's gone back to Steam for a refund and in my gaming life I'm going back to happier pastures in Jurassic World Evolution and Fallout. Before I sign off, I just wanted to thank all those of you out there who've been so helpful over the years: these forums are part of what made the game fun.
Did you open a discussion to say that? Why didn't you just stop playing, get a refund and bye-bye? You didn't need to open a discussion just to say that, you didn't even say the reasons.
I think it would be silly to abandon it completely if you're a genuine enthusiast. This years release has been a pain in the a*rse I'll grant you that, but maybe take break for a few months and then come back once some of the issues have been ironed out? But if it's just a casual game and railways aren't a day to day hobby then fair enough...
All the TSW5 issues were known before its releases, it’s the same music every year and every time we’re telling people to wait before buying it. Anyway on my side I’m only experiencing some FPS drop at Frankfurt hbf but to be honest, it’s the case on many huge stations with lots of signals. I understand your frustration but giving up totally train simulators because of TSW is too much in my opinion. Take a rest and come back later when major bugs are fixed.
I agree with MYG32, thats what I'm doing, there appears to be huge memory leaks on Xbox Series X So you get lo res textures and blurry in cab signage it seems on all routes and trains. However if you turn off all the layers on the route it doesn't happen. But thats a pretty crummy workaround. So I decided to just take a break and give them some time to fix it. My expectations are low. I have feeling it may have something to do with the supposive audio fix that did not work and now added little pops to appear in the audio while still getting the flanger effect to the sound. At least thats how my guitar sounds with the Flanger pedal on. So my timeline is when the Winter update comes out. And that means no new MBTA route when it comes out until the game is fixed to at least what we had in TSW 4. Before the summer patches as thats when the blurry textures started on selected routes. Also I hope I'm wrong because if they have to revert to the old audio that will mean all Xbox users will have to redownload everything again.
Did you have to make your first post after three years because of that? What's wrong with saying good bye and thanks to the community? You want reasons, take a look at the endless troubleshooting reports. Not everyone has the nerves to constantly hit new bugs in a paid product which should have undergone testing before release. And TSW is getting worse each year in that respect. It not only introduced new buggy features and content, but constantly renders old DLC incompatible, just seen in a thread on Rapid Transit, or the DB 185.
I go through phases like this myself. A nice long break usually takes care of things. TSW5 didn’t quite do it for me so I’ve been playing all sorts of truck simulators lately, but I’ll be back.
I can see where the OP is coming from, if people don’t voice their displeasure then DTG will never know, not that they care. Though the “Enough Is Enough” thread might have served, rather than start a new one. Sadly for most of us, the option to refund TSW5 has long passed so, in the immortal words of Basil Fawlty, “We’re stuck with it.” The one glimmer of hope for the franchise, always assuming it doesn’t get dragged down by the core deficiencies, is the Just Trains WCML Over Shap.
Hey folks. First up, Pterodaustro - sorry you've experienced issues (it'd be good to hear what you found difficult specifically, so we can log it as feedback), and all the best in the future. Hopefully we'll see you back some day. For others in the thread - OP is saying goodbye and thank you to the community. They are very welcome to do that. Would recommend that if it's not something you approve of/agree with, just leave it be. The more you comment, the more visible the post will be.
as for me, classic little bugfest, but nothing I cant overcome... on the bright side, we finally got a working version of 146.2 (mostly ), a passenger Vectron (with caring developers!), expert 101 is making bold strides where no one stepped before ... routes are mostly awesome and being worked on (Frankfurt Fulda being the first route with at 2 and sometimes more LZB entries and exits)... oh and we got 2 tilting trains (411 has its bugs but I hope they get fixed in time) and first Dutch and Welsh routes coming... so, classic quirky TSW ... when TSW ..... me off, I turn on Space Marine 2 or DOOM Eternal or sth else
My solution to the malaise that affects many of us when we see the most recent crop of less- than- stellar routes is to go back and play the old standbys like SPG, NTP, TVL and GWE along with the Rush Hour routes ( BML, BPE ). The relative quality of the early TSW routes is painfully obvious.
You're right of course, my original post was intended to record my appreciation for all those on these boards who have been generous with their advice and engaged in conversation in the years I've been a member. I didn't include my reasons for abandoning TSW as I didn't want to bore people with a litany of issues which are all detailed elsewhere, nor to appear angry or bitter towards what is essentially a great game which I've enjoyed over the years. Since you've been kind enough to ask though, I will just say that there isn't one particular issue that affected me, it was simply the realization that over an hour after I'd installed TSW 5 I was still tweaking the engine.ini file, adjusting the frame rate, mapping keys etc., and resigning myself to the thought that I'd probably still be doing this for several weeks to get the game to play the way I did with the previous version. If you'd like a detailed list of the issues that have bothered me, I'll be happy to supply it. As you and others suggest, I may well be back in time but for now that's it for me.
As others said, more than often I'm fed up too. Then again, I just had a good time on Frankfurt Fulda. The route is imho the very best that's available in TSW, and I think Lukas play a big part in the overall very good german content we're seeing in TSW - credit for that, the service variety unmatched if you got all layer requirements. Then again it hits you locating the train that's responsible for timetable lockups... definitely getting worse. It's an on-and-off relationship with TSW. Luckily, I've got more games to play in my arsenal, but keep coming back.
I get burnt out with TSW very often and need to take a break, especially with TSW 5 which offers very little new features and a painfully mediocre WCML route. Luckily Frankfurt and San Bernie are pretty good but not enough to keep me hooked and both those routes have problems too, but the fact that every new game introduces new bugs and old bugs that still aren't fixed after 5 games is sad. Don't even get me started on steam content which has been completely abandoned. If it weren't for Preston to Carlisle my interest would likely be at an all-time low.
Can I ask if TSW is the only train sim you’ve played? If not, you could venture into TSC. Imo it a better sim in general.
OP is tired of tweaking settings and mapping keys, and you recommend TSC, which is 80% tweaking settings, with the added bonus of endless searching for missing DLC dependencies lol.
If you've been here long enough, then you should know by now TSW operates in a cycle. From launch day, sometime during the end of summer up until probably early spring, is what I consider the beta period where they take a few months to fix outstanding bugs. I don't think this franchise has ever had a clean launch with all promised features available from day 1. There's always a caveat of "it's coming soon" like timetable issues with TSW2 routes to missing suspension in TSW4. I keep this in mind and simply wait until the spring period where you can pick up the annual Humble Bundle special editions with a handful of DLC. Just sit back, let the people who buy the products on day 1 help Dovetail beta test, then you can come in by the spring time a few months later and reap the rewards of a cheaper and more polished product.
You clearly made that up lol. Every game you play on PC you have to tweak your graphical settings. If that’s the case he might as well give up on gaming all together
I am with you on this... I go through cycles with this game since it is really one of my most played games of all time, but at the same time I get to a point where the bugs and issues just get to me in a way where I am not enjoying my time anymore. The blurred texture issue drives me nuts and I wills top playing entire routes when it happens. I am still playing around with San Bernardino a bit but when I bounce over to a game like Gran Turismo it is just a reminder of how games should work properly, beautiful graphics, very high framerates, and I can focus on having fun and not documenting issues for bug reports and wondering if they will ever be fixed. One of the bright spots for me is that for once the US content seems to be good and interesting (San Bernardino + MBTA upcoming) and since by nature the US routes use way less layers, they seem to so far not be effected by the blurry texture ram issues.
