I think it's for controllers, TSW1 and 2020 had a different camera control and in 2 they introduce "immersion" controls for consoles. Think it's to do with that.
Pressing down on the right thumbstick (R3 on PS) takes you to an external camera and the setting is to choose what camera you want it to take you too. The head out option is the same camera as external but is positioned next to the driver’s window.
It also doesn't work on every loco.. most just don't have that camera unless you go through the different interior cameras available... (Pressing right thumb stick and cycling through the camera options with the right D-pad button - unsure on PS/PC)
That’s interesting. I have it set to ‘external’ which does work on everything as it just acts as a shortcut to the normal external camera in that setting so have never really seen how it behaves when set to the other options. I use the arrow keys on a keyboard for cycling internal views, so that’s how I get to the head out camera.
Yeah, immersion camera being the head out does work on majority of trains, but not all; all the 37s, 47s, and older BR era locos and units (minus 150/142/08) are the main ones I've noticed that don't seem to have it supported via external camera... Nothing too major though.
Classic camera is much better. Especially for external view. You can adjust it exactly on the spot. Immersion camera i by far not so exactly to handle. And railfanning isn't possible with immersion view. Whe the train begins to move, the camera will move too.
