So during my recent travels I have been thinking quite a lot on this topic - when using trams, U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trains in Vienna and when travelling between Bratislava and Vienna... plus my experiences during some train travels around Vienna

When riding a tram, that one isnt too exciting - most of the time it is just cozy/comfy but slow carriage, with occasional bursts of speed up to 40 km/h, sometimes even up to 60 km/h when on dedicated track/bridges and such... but even travelling at 60 km/h in a tram feels kinda fast, like when driving a car in a city but no red light or congestion at the moment

S-Bahn is similar, but there you have decent acceleration up to 40-60 km/h when going from one station to the one close to it, and speeding up a little to reach some more distant points in the city, sometimes you get to 80, 100 or even 120 km/h if it goes over stretches of track where there isnt much chance of a collision - and that already feels fairly fast

in U-Bahn, cos of its rapid acceleration, and the sound boom since it travels in tunnels a lot of the time, it feels so much faster than it really is - up to 80 km/h

when travelling in a REX or faster services, you can get to 140, 160 or even more... e.g. 120 km/h when travelling to Bratislava in diesel consist via Marchegg feels comfortable yet fast, when using the service via Bruck and Parndorf on-board Desiro ML, sometimes it goes 140-160, like, daaaamn sports car almost

I also experienced CityJet Xpress a couple times, 160 km/h almost constantly from St. Polten to Vienna and 140-150 almost constantly from Wiener Neustadt to Wien-Liesing... and that felt like blazing fast

Kinda slow windup, I know, but bear with me - I know TSW cant be 1:1 with real life speeds, but still... sometimes when I turn on boom camera (correct word for the one where you watch train fly by from a vantage point?) and lets say the train goes 140 km/h, it almost feels like maybe 60-80 km/h in real life... when 140 IRL is already a bit of a scary speed (for reference, in Slovakia, for cars, you can usually go 50 km/h in towns/cities and 130 km/h is the usual highway speed; going 80 km/h inside a car as a passenger already feels decent/fast)

Sooo... I doubt it is just my computer that I sometimes perceive the trains as if going slower... any thoughts, guys?

Anyway, a kind of side point - I know TSW doesnt have wear and tear on trains, and no passenger physics, which is understandable... but still, wouldnt it be nice if we could learn some driving dynamics from somewhere, like either a video, tutorial or sth? Stuff like how to accelerate/brake properly on some sections, how much % of power we should use when driving... cos IRL, you cant always go balls to the wall up to track speed limit and you have to adapt to conditions (besides signals) to determine how fast you can really go (lets say there is track limit of 80 km/h, signals say free, but the next station is pretty close so it doesnt make sense to accelerate all the way to the limit, since you have to stop the train soon)

Thanks for thoughts and suggestions :)))

In regards to the second point, that comes with practice. The more you drive the more you get the feel of the train.

Simulating speed is going to be different for every game. I remember watching a video a while back on the factors affecting the feeling of speed in video games and there's a lot. No 2 games have the same sensation of speed depending on the fov, zoom angle, camera angle, distance from the object, etc. It's not an issue but there's just a lot of things that affect speed

I get it, I was just kind of, surprised a little, when comparing 140 km/h in-game and 140 km/h when taking a train from Wiener Neustadt - that one felt like racing in a Ferrari :D

Yea. You can't actually feel in a video game. You are going by sight.
