Right, I understand this would of been Mentioned dozens of times, but obviously we have been having this storm which has severely effected services. Literally all day No Services between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton cause of Severe Flooding. Now with all the problems TSW been having I guess it would take time by not rushing it to implement it but we got the option to have a Rain Storm, thunder storms and everything, but we don't get speed restrictions and everything. I don't expect them to implement a thing to cancel services as I think that could be very complicated. But adding like Low to High Speed restrictions wouldn't be that hard from a Game Developers point of view right? What does everyone think to it? I will Mention it on the Forums in a bit.
I don't really get what you are going for. If you mean speed restriction in timetable mode, they've ready said that the system can't cope with such a thing, it's not designed to be dynamic. That's what the Scenario side is for. Look at routes like BML, a complex timetable like that suffers when the player is even 2 minutes late, let alone every service being delayed
Actually the dispatcher has proved remarkably good at dealing with variations being thrown at timetable mode. You can put in an extra train (using Free Roam) and delay things, and it's capable of dealing with it in a pretty similar way to a real-life signaller. On that basis it could comfortably deal with a temporary speed restriction delaying trains by a couple of minutes, and it would add significantly to the interest and variety for the player.
I think, if implemented properly, some TSRs in timetable mode may be a good feature but, especially after the week I've just had, please no cancellations or signal failures or anything that delays you too much, as crawling along from signal to signal in essentially a traffic jam of trains is no fun at all. Saying that it is more fun than just sitting in a station for an hour or so just waiting doing absolutely nothing of interest except sipping a cold cup of tea every couple of minutes.
Its a great idea but implementation is the big question mark. Im struggling to find a diplomatic way of saying that it might get messed up..
Yes, Some of us want it in Timetable mode, not for it to be in just one Scenario. Maybe not all routes? Like I said a thing they shouldn't rush It just be great to have that real life Immersion as sometimes the game can get stale, Want some unexpected events etc
I know what you're talking about, but it is hard to program dynamic events into the timetable otherwise they would have done it already.
Ah sound mate. I just want the game to be that tad more realistic. Basic Restrictions I swear could be a thing? Cancellations is a big ask
For now we've just got to deal with it as it is. As I said before, scenarios are the best case for this sort of thing. Dynamic weather only came with TSW3 and still needs a few adjustments.
I'm still not sold. I find the random 'road closed' events in ETS2 more frustrating than anything else. So not sure how much fun it would be in TrainSim.
Station service announcements would be good. I was at a GWR station recently and the first the driver knew that his service was cancelled was when he heard it on the station tannoy.. but I can see Bravo's point. Implementation is key- it has to fit in the current mechanics and it has to be believable i.e. have a point, be visible, and not be too consequential for the timetable. I can understand why scenario based stuff might be the way to go unless major tie-ins with weather data were made, and given how modular TSW is as well as how rapidly various modules become 'legacy', its probably not worth it for DTG's cash cow dlc pumping machine. I play Simrail a fair bit too, and there you can find multiplayer servers with human dispatchers dealing with line closures etc. Its quite a lot of fun and very immersive too both in terms of driving and also dispatching. I had a very fun few hours earlier today learning how to run the old style boards (screenshot below). Im not suggesting for a minute that you ditch TSW and switch 'allegiance' for want of a better phrase, but if you have the cash and can afford both, you might find it fun if you want a break from predictability. I tend to alternate between the two tbh..
Loved your Last bit Sunscreen. Ahahha That has tickled me. Your right on what you have said to be fair
I edited after that to provide an alternative product experience, but it may not be for you. Just in case youre not aware of its existence. Edit- FYi here's the real world location of that screenshot above. Ive been on holiday to Poland to Krakow which is a lovely little city also in the south (Copernicus Museum, Salt Mines which are stunning, great beer, cheap food, great time) We travelled a bit by train and I highly recommend it.. Being in game kind of brought back those happy memories.
The thing with speed restrictions is having them along a route without warning would be unrealistic, especially if you're driving at a high speed. Having them appear at random across the route would make it difficult to drive, imagine going 125 or 140mph and you shoot past/ through a restriction? If you’re gonna have speed restrictions like in real life, the driver needs to be aware of where it is and the max speed permitted through the section before they start their service, and thats only possible if it's included in a service description.
Thats a great point. Maybe scenario planner is actually the answer, and I can imagine some really informative, professional looking and well put together briefing packs adding a lot to the experience. Random often is not fun, but a story within the experience is often a great immersive tool. I dont know how much scenario planner can enable this type of thing though.
Its got a steep learning curve so pm me if you have any questions. Ill help where I can naturally. Do plenty of youtube research etc too before you buy.
In real life temporary speed restrictions have an advance warning board (with associated AWS warning) an appropriate distance in advance of the commencement of the restriction, allowing sufficient time to brake. That would need to be recreated in TSW if temporary speed restrictions were added. To be advised of the speed restriction at the start of the journey would be good, but not essential. In real life a Driver would be aware of a Temporary Speed Restriction. They would not necessarily be aware of an Emergency Speed Restriction, which can be applied at any time, and has an additional advance warning and AWS magnet.
What I'd find better is to have a timetable like in Zusi. For each waypoint you can give alternatives, resulting in different paths everytime you're replaying a service. But then, Zusi's dispatcher has been in development for about twenty years, I don't think TSW could handle that, especially seeing the trouble it has with some layers. (Spawn it at Munich Hbf at 6am, it's completely blocked and no train makes it into the station)
The problem is that Scenario Planner 2.0 still misses a lot of features to create amazing scenarios. With 2.0 we finally got the options to set a custom time and hooray! we can chain paths, but we do not have access to signals nor create authentic incidents to cause proposed speed reductions or even stop signals yet. Maybe the PC Editor has some features to make scenarios more immersive, but the problem is that only PC players and even from them only the ones who build up the knowledge are able to do so. On the developer side for the scenarios, I still miss more good chaos scenarios attached to the DLCs themselves. They definitely could provide us more scenarios considering the price tag of the DLCs.
The funny thing is that in most road closed events in ETS2, you can actually drive around the road blocks and proceed at the closed route. This is fun because it is not only a challenge to come across them, but also when you drive the blocked road further you will find the actual accident and have another challenge to drive around it. That's something really authentic made from SCS as it's not only a stupid road block to prevent the driver from delivering the goods in time but actually makes sense. I enjoy it every time to drive around it and the police nor the rescue services care. That's also why I maxed the "random events" slider to top right.
Especially on older parts of the map, where the detour adds 3 or 4 hours on, on the newer/ reworked parts, it's quite nice driving the country lanes and such. It also frustrates me that WoT contracts (i.e. the ones where ingame time doesn't matter) don't apply. Which are usually the contracts I do most.
Again the opposite here. I don't drive WoT contracts at all usually, not because I don't want to but mainly because of two reasons. 1. There are never, for the trailers I like to drive sufficient, and for me generally attractive jobs available, and 2. also do only give very less income. Not that I would always need to generate it, but if I can choose an equal job of the cargo market which makes so much more sense for payout efficiency, I take this one instead. I only participate in special WoT events like the christmas and valentine one, where we can get some special cabin accessoires or liveries, so that it gives me an actual benefit of overtaking low payout jobs. Also the "one for all" feeling is different then because you want to participate in the community challenge. A shame.
