First I'd like to say this is pure speculation, so share your experience if you feel otherwise.

That being said I have a feeling like TSW2 started performing quite a bit better recently. I have an FPS counter in the corner and it usually hovered around 60-70 fps in rural areas on my setting. With no changes (and not updated drivers, shame on me) when I look at the counter nowadays, it seems to still closer to 80-90 fps most of the time in the same areas. There has been no mention of optimisation improvements in patch notes, so I'd like to ask if anyone has a similar experience of if I should get my head checked :D

I have similar thoughts. Either DTG or NVIDIA.
EDIT For a while I suspected these nice clouds by londonmidland. But I rather exclude it.

I haven't updated my hardware nor my drivers and in my opinion TSW is performing the same.

Your results may vary, but I am seeing about the same or even slightly less since the last core update.

I’ve seen increases of about 20 FPS recently. Whether Nvidia or DTG I dunno but definitely seeing it

Nothing changed for me with latest Windows Updates and NVIDIA driver. But I run the game in DX11, so maybe that's why there is no striking performance boost ...

Can't say I've seen any noticeable change in performance recently. Every PC setup is different and infinitely changeable though, so I would analyze your computer first.

Can someone confirm that the "-DX12" launch options command actually works in TSW2?
The reason I ask is because I have not had it enabled before and on my current settings (all maxed, Vsync off) I had 30-35fps (62 fps locked) at Munich Hbf (the most demanding station I have encountered).

After seeing the recommendation of adding "-DX12" to the launch options I noticed that the fps had shot up to 62 at Munich Hbf when locked and when changing to unlimited I have nearly 100 fps which is insane for such a demanding location.

Supposedly this one somewhat improves performance but makes the game significantly less stable. It crashes every time it encounters a custom livery, so it probably becomes mayhem once mods get involved.

Like for like comparison (same scenario, time of day, view point etc) with FPS limiter and Vsync off:

    Average/steady state fps without "-DX12": 51 FPS
    Average/steady state fps with "-DX12": 87 FPS

That is a massive 70 % increase. I think using the word "somewhat" is a bit of an understatement ;)

It performs differently on different PCs, I got about a 10-15 FPS bump, that's not nothing, but considering the tradeoffs, I went back to DX11, the game is happier with.

I don't have any problems running DX12 with custom liveries (though I don't have all of them - nor does anyone else :) - so there could be some that have problems), but the Livery Editor itself consistently crashes under DX12. AIUI DX12 offloads more system calls into the GPU, so if you have a modern GPU that's relatively lightly loaded under DX11, you can see a big improvement; but if you have an older GPU, DX12 may make little difference. Though there are innumerable other factors affecting frame rates on a PC, of course.

My GPU is a RTX 2070S, maybe that gets extra benefit from DX12 vs DX11 (in combination with my CPU not being a bottleneck)?

Wow, didn't know about the dx12 option. When activated I have solid locked 60fps.
Leeds used to be the worst place for me re fps(35ish fps in station) , now doesn't dip below 60!
    Brilliant!

I probably will have to give it another go one day, with 2080S that should do something. And i7-9700KF should not be that much of a bottleneck.
