Introduction Hi, welcome to another post in my series "Improving Lineside Industry". I'm going to be looking at various routes in Train Sim World and highlighting what we have, and what we could have, in regard to railways that serve the various industries along them. I find these to be very interesting, and I think maximizing opportunities for players to use them in TSW would greatly enhance our game. I've tried to limit any suggestions to what is just about already within the scope of the route, and might just need some extra modelling of scenery, and perhaps a few new wagons. It must be said that I haven't been a fan of railways for very long, and I'm from Australia, so I'd love for you to add your knowledge about these far-flung routes and correct anything I get wrong. I have speculated at times, as information can be hard to come by. (Some of the screenshots here of the in-game map are rather poor-looking as I couldn't do any better with their resolution when zoomed out. Some areas do not have 3D buildings on Google Maps so only some locations will have those images included.) Route In this post, I'll be looking at Cane Creek. I believe the route is set in 2020. Here is a map of the route as represented in game, numbered with each location that I will be highlighting. Industries Location 1 Starting at the southern end of the route, Intrepid Potash has a facility for loading potash onto trains. Players can currently load covered hopper wagons with the material. Location 2 As part of the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project, a site was set up in Moab to allow the loading of trains with containers of radioactive soil. Players can currently load open-topped wagons with material, but it would be ideal to have the correct train cars modelled in game. Location 3 At Seven Mile Canyon, there are several sidings. One features a ramp that would allow a truck to dump something into a wagon, but normally it seems the area is used to store tank cars, perhaps full of fuel for local applications. Players could deliver these cars and remove empties. Location 4 At Brendel, on the mainline, there is a short spur that is used for fuel cars. Players can currently deliver tank cars here. Location 5 The second component of the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project is situated in Brendel. Trains from Moab arrive here, and their containers are unloaded before being emptied into a large pit. Players can currently unload material via a bottom discharge system, but it would be ideal to have the correct train cars modelled in game. Location 6 There are some sidings at Thompson Springs which are largely unused. In August 2021, there was some activity, however. Conclusion I hope this was interesting. As you can see, not much needs improvement on this route as it is quite complete. Please feel free to add to this and let me know what I've got wrong. Thanks for reading!
Location 3 IIRC are old coal loading sites from way back in the DRGW Era, however they are only used as storage tracks if necessary nowadays. Thompson Springs used to be home to an Amtrak Station, but was closed in 1997, and demolished in 2016. Really aside from the correct Urainiam tailing cars, there is nothing to improve on Cane Creek without extending the route. But there isn't much to gain aside from some longer mainline running from that. The next city is Green River UT, which doesn't have any industries, and Provo and Grand Junction are too far away.
