Introduction Hi, welcome back to my series "Improving Lineside Industry". I'm going to be looking at various routes in Train Sim World and highlighting what we have, and what we could have, in regard to railways that serve the various industries along them. I find these to be very interesting, and I think maximizing opportunities for players to use them in TSW would greatly enhance our game. I've tried to limit any suggestions to what is just about already within the scope of the route, and might just need some extra modelling of scenery, and perhaps a few new wagons. It must be said that I haven't been a railway fan for very long, and I'm from Australia, so I'd love for you to add your knowledge about these far-flung routes and correct anything I get wrong. I have speculated at times, as information can be hard to come by. (Some of the screenshots here of the in-game map are rather poor-looking as I couldn't do any better with their resolution when zoomed out. Some areas do not have 3D buildings on Google Maps so only some locations will have those images included.) Route In this post, I'll be looking at Nahverkehr Dresden. I believe the route is set in 2021. Here is a map of the route as represented in game, numbered with each location that I will be highlighting. Industries Location 1 Beginning in Riesa, Sächsische Binnenhäfen operates a transhipment facility that shifts containers between barges, trains or trucks with gantry cranes. Players could work with Sggmrss wagons in the sidings. Location 2 Elbe-Stahlwerke Feralpi is a large steel factory in Riesa. Players could shunt Rs wagons for the finished products and Eas wagons for the swarf before assembling consists. Location 3 Just outside of what is represented in the route (like the next seven locations), Cargill has a vegetable oil processing and bottling plant in south Riesa. I cannot tell if it still receives and dispatches oilseeds and bottled oil, or what wagons would be used. Location 4 Holcim has a gravel and sand mine in west Zeithain that dispatches these materials on trains. Players could reverse consists of Falns wagons under the overhead loading tipple that straddles the siding. Location 5 There is a storage depot for the Bundeswehr (German military) in west Zeithain. Players could deliver containers of equipment with Sggmrss wagons (unloaded by reach stacker) and military vehicles on Samms wagons (unloaded on a goods platform). Location 6 Mannesmannröhren-Werk is a steel fabricator in east Zeithain specialising in making pipes. Overhead gantry cranes load trains to send away the finished products. Players could shunt Rs wagons into the complex. Location 7 M. Preymesser Spedition is a logistics business that has a warehouse with transhipment capabilities. Players could deliver Shimms wagons into the shed for them to unload steel coils.
Location 8 Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlhandel processes steel into various forms. Overhead gantry cranes load trains to send away the finished products. Players could shunt Rs wagons down the sidings. Location 9 Stahlcenter Riesa in east Zeithain makes bespoke concrete reinforcement components in various designs. They receive material and dispatch their wares via a rail link. Players could bring Rs wagons into the building. Location 10 Sächsische Bewehrungsstahl specialises in creating concrete reinforcement mesh and has a few sidings. Players could shunt Rs wagons under the gantry crane for unloading and loading. Location 11 In Nünchritz, WACKER Chemie has a chemical production plant where they produce around 200 different silicone-based substances, including those to be used in solar panels and adhesives. Players can currently shunt Zacns wagons into the site from the mainline and move them into the discharge sidings, but it would be ideal to be able to use a more correct wagon and use the unloading function. Location 12 Fruchthof Meißen is a fruit importer and wholesaler with a siding to their warehouse near Priestewitz. I am not sure if trains still deliver here, nor what wagons would be used. Location 13 Usedomer Eisenbahn Gesellschaft is a provider of diesel locomotive shunting services that also has a maintenance and storage yard in Niederau. Players can currently deliver locomotives here for storage, but some shunting too would be ideal. Location 14 RAILONE is a manufacturer of concrete railway sleepers with a few sidings in Coswig. Players could bring in empty Rs wagons, run around the consist, and shunt them into each loading spur.
Location 15 Ellerhold Maschinenfabrik (a printing company for labels, posters and packaging) has a train loading platform in Radebeul. I am unsure if it is still used. Players could bring Habbiins wagons to the warehouse to unload paper. Location 16 thyssenkrupp Schulte is a steel processor in west Radebeul focusing on flat steel for the automotive, electrical, and construction industries. Players could shunt Rs and Shimms wagons into the factory from the exchange yard at Coswig. Location 17 In east Radebeul, Arevipharma makes pharmaceutical products. It has a rail link with a chemical unloading shed but I cannot tell if it is still used or what wagons are accurate. Location 18 Just outside of what is represented in the route (like the next seven locations), Pohl & Co are specialists in paper logistics and have a warehouse in Friedrichstadt. Players could shunt Habbiins to the freight platform for loading and unloading by forklift. Location 19 Sachsenland Transport & Logistik has a train-served warehouse in Friedrichstadt. Players could unload Habbiins onto the building's platform.
Location 20 Lhoist is a mineral company that sends lime to Friedrichstadt by train to be stored and then trucked away. Players could provide Uacns wagons and use the game's hose function to unload the lime into silos. Location 21 Scholz Recycling has a site in Friedrichstadt where they fill trains with scrap metal. Players could deliver Eas wagons for loading by crane. Location 22 Eisenlegierungen Handelsgesellschaft is another scrap metal company with a rail link. Players could shunt Eas wagons into the spur for loading by crane. Location 23 Dresdener Mühle is a wheat and rye flour mill in Friedrichstadt. It appears that is it no longer used, but if not, players could deliver Tadgs-y wagons of grain. Location 24 TotalEnergies, a petroleum company, has a train-served storage depot in Friedrichstadt. Players could bring in trains of Zacns wagons filled with petrol and unload them with the game's hose function.
Location 25 Emons Container Umschlag operates an intermodal facility in northwest Dresden. Containers are shifted between trucks and trains here with overhead cranes. Players could work with consists of Sggmrss wagons and run trains to north to Riesa. Location 26 Heizkraftwerk Nossener Brücke is a combined heating and power plant in the southwest of Dresden. It receives natural gas by rail. Players could shunt trains into the sidings and unload a few Zaggks wagons at a time with the game's hose function. Location 27 There is a small maintenance of way depot near Dresden Hauptbahnhof. Players could run short works trains from here. Conclusion What a marathon. I hope this was interesting. Please feel free to add to this and let me know what I've got wrong. Thanks for reading!
