    Hi all,
with the launch of TSW3 realistic snow build up effects were added to the ground, and they're a great improvement. Snow effects fall short in one of the most important areas though: the train you're driving. Currently your train just gets a 2d crisp white texture applied in some places when it snows. The texture isn't really linked to the amount of snow, your speed, the duration you've been driving or your direction. It is also completly plain white, making it look way to clean, and even like someone forgot to texture it.

example 1: A completely white and 2d snow effect on the BR 101. nothing would make you think this engine just came out of a snow storm.

In addition to this, the windows do have dynamic snow build up, which looks quite good from the cab (or acceptable at least). This effect is however only applied to windows, and dissapears as soon as you go away a small distance from the train. The fact that it is only applied to windows causes a sudden and odd looking seperation at the edge of the windows.

example 2: The snow effects cut off at the edge of the window exactly, making them look really weird.

I do hope that in the future these effects can be improved upon, and made to be more dynamic.

example 3: A BR 120 (which should really be added to the game at some point :)) after a journey in snowy conditions. There are clumps of snow all over the front, with the buffers and couplings seeing a particularly significant build up

example 4: A case of real life being too much to implement in-game.

example 5: An ICE 2 covered in snow, showing how snow beheves on more rounded and higher speed trains. There is actually less no snow on the windows and a thin layer on the rest of the train, the opposite of the situation in-game right now.

example 6: A BR 146 (probably, as the state shield implies it being a passenger loco and thus either a BR 146.0 or 146.1), again covered in snow, showing thicker buildups in some places.

The best thing is that any technology developed for this might also be used to make the buildup of dead insects on the front of faster trains, especially in summer, more dynamic. It can then be linked to weather conditions, time of year and speed to give a realistic builup of dead flies and dirt on the front of your train after a long drive.

example 7: an ICE 1 with quite a lot of dead bugs and grime on the front on a summer day.

Pretty sure the last thing won't be possible, as some Operators can be a bit strict on how their trains look in game, and most probably wouldn't like them covered in too much dirt or grime.

Example 4 could be part of a scenario if it isn't possible to make it into a real thing for every dlc

I was going to suggest having operational washers to wipe off dead bugs in game.
Watching cab rides it’s amazing how often the windscreen needs cleaning on a summer high speed run.

I don't think you can improve the weather that much without also improving it's visual effects on the rolling stock. Of course weather also could use improvements, but it's not "or" rather "and". A game that has great water graphics and physics, still looks bad if the sky is a low res 2010 style skybox. All things need to be incrementally improved at a steady pace.

The snow has to be the least realistic effect on the game. Start a free roam at 10am with clear sky's and by 10:45 it's covered in snow rail deep with only a few flakes coming down during the final 15 minutes. The snow builds up way too fast compared to the amount of snow falling. And why does it snow every single time when in dynamic weather. It doesn't snow every day of winter in the UK yet dynamic weather rarely gives rain in winter, but snow with thunderstorms (thunderstorm probably a result of the clear day turning snowy so fast!)

To get rain, you have to select a warmer month. So how tsw does it is that anything above 0, it doesn't snow and anything below does snow. Also dynamic weather has been like that since tsw3 launched. It's more complicated than that with dynamic weather but getting precipitous weather is very common. You're lucky to get a full sunshine run in dynamic weather. Live weather could solve that but idk how much resources that uses up or how difficult it is

Seems to be they need to adjust the temperatures. We rarely get below freezing for a prolonged period in the UK, especially during the day time. Rain in winter is common, not snow. Personally I've reverted to overriding the weather as dynamic nearly always results in snow between October and march, or rain the rest of the year, even on the hottest days, which is unrealistic and poor imo.
