I wish i could link or place this youtube video here but all i can do is give you the words to type to find it. Type the following..."TRAIN SIM WORLD BY RAIL FANS,FOR RAIL FANS"(It should be 2:38).(Look below Yardem added the video so you can now watch it here). I found this on youtube while recently looking up old TSW dlc trailers,They made the dlc offerings look good,to bad most didn't always live up to the great trailers. In the trailer they had a goal 4 yrs ago or so too bad 4 yrs later(4 versions of TSW:TSW/TSW2020/TSW2/TSW3) (that dream has become a nightmare.(Technical Nightmare Mostly). There clearly a lot of love and passion and effort and blood sweat and tears behind DTG work BUT it's underminded by ridiculous budgets and most of all even more ridiculous release dates.(Covid19 also didn't help either). This was a very moving trailer the music makes it click. One has to wonder when did this dream become a nightmare.(Not surprisingly i'm sure more then a few long time players aka fans have a pretty good idea what happened and perhaps why as well).
Content back then definetly feels like they went the extra mile a lot. Nowadays the stream should say: "Train sim world by DTG, we just ran out of time..(again)". The good thing, as a customer i can move forward without a buy if corners were cut.
I'm sure Matt and Adam still retain the same passion now as they did back then in 2018 I agree the marketing has changed somewhat but I'm sure they could whip up something similar now if they wanted If you think there were no technical issues in that period between the initial csxhh and tsw releases (2017-2018) you are mistaken
I'm sure there where technical issues but in 2017-2018 TSW was NEW just leaving the yard for the 1st time. But here we are 100,000+ miles/kilometers later and around 5 yrs later and the technical issue train only ever gets longer to the point where we need several loading screens before we can ever see the end of the train.(This just means the technical issues keep growing far beyond perhaps the abilities of even DTG to ever fix).
I still enjoy the game but agree that recent releases seem to be suffering from the Dovetail Treadmill effect. Rushed to market routes full of bugs, one new train type and a £5 price increase. Even the normally reliable German content is not immune to this - look at BBO, a super short route still buggy even now. That has made both Niddertalbahn and West Rhine unlikely to be Day One purchases, will wait for some non rose tinted reviews and opinions. So far as the UK is concerned, where’s the passion and interest that brought us NTP, TVL and the Class 20 and 31 add ons?
We're a good 5/6 months from the annual DTG Summer update, what that will be we await to see. But I'm sure DTG are in the planning stages in regards to what they want to do for it. Will we see the old lines of "we've learnt form our mistakes" or "we hear you" blah, blah, blah..? How many times have we heard this and seen little to no improvement? Brighton Main Line still doesn't have Rush Hour AI passengers.. I could spend a long time picking faults at DTG and TSW but I'm still here and we all are because we want the game to be what we all wish it would be. DTG's hands are tied from the suits above, it is a business after all and the bottom line comes before what me, you and those who make the routes want.
Whitout matt and adam, tsw could not be the sim, which it is now, im sure the entire team does a great job and they are for sure passionate. My criticism is about the people deciding the deadlines with the dollars in their eyes. I really dont know if first was the chicken or the egg, but my personal sprak to jump of the TSW train, after leaving tsc behind me, were the detailed locomotives and a youtube video of the northern trans pennine, which convinced me to buy basicly all addons released by then. Maybe cutting corners is successful shortterms, but for the future you can break the neck of a product this way. DTG already raised the prices, which is ok in my opinion, but lowering the quality to the same time? Cant immagine a worse way to push something down the cliff. Expanses in life raises, so i wouldnt count on "fanboys" in a permanent way. Compared, for quality people have always paid, that will never change and its the only longterm future of a product.
I played Great Western Express when it came out on Xbox (Founders Edition?) and it was unplayable so this isn't a dream becoming a nightmare, just a small dedicated team doing their best with the resources they have. The game has so many more features now and that's down to the hard work and enthusiasm of the team. You only have to listen to a few minutes of Matt's marathon streams to hear what the game means to him Sure it's not perfect, what is? Even on the buggiest routes I can find ways to get value for money. Accept it or walk away, your choice. But quite what people think is to be gained by frequent negative posts is beyond me...
Players aren't posting negative comments just to be negative. It's clear if DTG are passionate about trains and there work then why can't players be just as passionate about this game there paying for and playing offen and asking that it work as intended. Why is it we have to accept anything less when those making it don't want to deliver anything less then a great experience.
The nightmare began 6 months ago when they released a useless TSW3 full of technical issues that have yet to be (and probably will never be) fixed alienating half of their already niche community. And their cheerleading squad seems quite happy to go down with their sinking ship. Thankfully I hopped on a rowboat for shore soon after this mess left port.
And unlike the captain of the titanic who went down with his ship,I thinking the captain of DTG will panic if his ship hits a rock his ship can't survive and take on to much water and begins to sink,he might do exactly what the captain of the costa concordia did and sneak onto the nearest lifeboat and watch his ship sink from the safety of shore.
Really like it but they should be doing this to other routes outside of the United Kingdom if allowed to do so. For Example the NJ Transit Meadowlands facility that's where NEC Trenton NYC via New Brunswick ALP-46A ALP-46 MLV I-III and Arrow IIIs are maintained. They should be visiting a hump yard that is working if they want humping freight wagons over them an example is Rhein Ruhr Osten & Ruhr Sieg Nord Hagen Vorhalle
