Ive been trying to make a scenario on the Western mainlines electrification project and I'm trying to get the AP 387 to work as an AI, however whenever I try and add stops for the train I get the error stated in the title and the train doesn't move or go anywhere when I try running the scenario. This only happens with the 387 as I can place 800s on electric mode fine. How do I fix this for the 387?
The presence of overhead wires does not mean the line is Electrified - the wires are just "Eye Candy" because an electric train look stupid without them - same for the Third Rail. Somewhere there will be a section that is not shown as Electric. Go in to build then pick the route you need to look at then click Edit. When you are looking at a section of track press the spacebar on the keyboard with a pause between presses and about press 4 or 5 it will show the track electrics. Where is shows White with an Electric Flash that is a section you can run an electric train over. A Black section has no power and somewhere in your scenario you will have the train going over a black section of track. Create a scenario for the 387 or any proper Electric loco/train from Paddington to Slough. If it works you know the problem is between Slough and Reading - If it doesn't the problem is between Paddington and Slough. The 387 won't run unless the line its going over is Electric. The 801 is basically a Diesel that can pretend to use the OHLE.
Thanks for the reply - it turns out the entire route just has no electrification whatsoever, and just has OHLE that doesn't actually work. Do you have any idea how I can fix this?
Just had a little further look and it is only the parts of the route with the new OHLE that dont have electrification, if that helps narrow down the problem. Screenshot below (Right side is the AlanThomson OHLE and left is the normal one thats normally on western mainlines)
You Don't need Overhead Wires or Third Rail to run an Electric Train - The overhead is just there to look right. You Do need the Track Properties - as in your Second Picture to be set at Electric To fix it you have to go in to the Editor and select sections of track to change the Track Properties. Having found a section of track like the picture Click on the Track Selection box and the Square Selection box Highlighted Yellow in the picture Click on the track and two boxes appear and you move one away from the other with the mouse. On the RH side the properties box shows None in the Electrification drop down Whilst you have a section of track highlighted change the properties to Overhead Wire When you then click on the ground the track properties change You will have to change all the track where you intend to run an Electric only train - not a Dual Mode 800/801 Peter
