Johannes Hartman of Incredible Trains says "Driving my virtual recreation of this route has been especially nostalgic for me, as I now live farther away from it than I used to", he's now doing a phd in Oxford, so that's GWR ruled out. "I was ambitious from the start, choosing a significant UK region for my first route" "this upcoming release will actually feature one of my regular journeys." A little internet research suggests he was previously based at the Queen Mary University in East London and he seems to be suggesting he used to travel on that line regularly, a commute maybe. Significant region could mean the Capital. The Hammersmith & City featuring the oldest section of Underground line in the world and it sounds as if he's also building new traction for it. If he's based in Oxford he'll probably still use the H&C for social and work events. Other candidates for a commute to the Stepney/Bethnal Green area; East London Line (historically significant), North East London Overground Lines (less so), GEML (fairly significant I guess), LTS (Likewise), Central Line (substantial, possibly significant) and possibly the North London Line.
Oh, when I read this the first thing I thought to myself were that I hoped it would bring something a bit different and more interesting to the game (like JT have), seeing as this seems to have got him interested in our railways. However from what you say here I am now thinking it may well just be another GOBLIN. Fair dos to the lad and I wish him well, but I won't be particularly interested in another modern electric London commuter line.
I think you're right then, he probably commuted to Stratford then hopped on the 25 bus route. Stratford to Richmond with a Class 378 will do nicely for me, depot runs for 710s between Gospel Oak and Willesden too.
If it's the whole Mildmay/North London Line it would have route hops at Gospel Oak and Willesden Junction which seems to be a desired core feature for most modern era routes.
One of the work in progress shots for the upcoming WCML South upgrade features a five coach 710 which operates on the Watford DC line and the North London Line (according to Wikipedia anyway), so it may be that line. That he's doing it basically by himself is outstanding and you know what, fair play to him. I'll get it if it helps support him.
I presume this will come with a class 378 not the class 710. From the screenshots on the development thread it looks to be high quality and it is great to see a new developer emerging, especially one who has been using the public editor. Personally I would have preferred it to come with a Silverlink class 313 but it was one of my favourite TSC routes and I am sure will be great with TSW.
We also saw he mentioned working on the rolling stock, giving what we can piece together, it’s likely going to be something that hasn’t needed tweaks to sounds & setup, so I would say that the NLL & 378 is a sound bet.
I like the thought of the North London line coming to TSW. Seems to skirt nicely around central London with some unique locations, stations and mainline crossovers compared to the Goblin line, which seems to be a bit further away to the east.
In terms of the DLC content, I think maybe some of the calender surprises might be DTG finally layering 350s/390s to BCC and Glossop. It's certainly a possibility...
What are the chances of the branch down to Clapham junction being included in this route? As it would also allow us to use the 377 on the full run from East Croydon to Watford Junction (albeit split by route hopping) using the WCML south and BML routes not to mention the additional service patterns this would add for the 378
I did enjoy the Suffragette Line so if the Mildmay Line is also in development, it would be something that would definitely peak my interest
Safe bet on the NLL then really. ‘Incredible’ is truly the right name here. Personally happy to support this on day one!
If the Watford DC timetable gets a proper enhancement in the way it looks like it should next month we would have quite a decent chunk of the Overground on TSW.
I was about to say that if one guy does the whole line from Richmond to Stratford ... but then I googled the distance and it is only 17 miles. It seems it should be a lot more than that. I'd happily buy it, just then need someone to do a scenario from my childhood of NSE class 313s on the route!
The North London and Goblin Lines route for TS included the West London Line as well, but the original just had the North London Line. I'd hope that a North London Line in TSW would include the WLL as well.
The scenario planner possibilities of NSE 313s, all the stock from JTs new route and the New Journeys Bakerloo stock on WCML South. Yes please!
I didn’t realise they went North of the river, I’ve always associated them as being SR units, the more you know
If it is North London Line, it would be great if it could go to North Woolwich and include the old railway museum. But, realistically as a solo developer, that’s probably a but too much to ask. I can but dream though.
There is an opinion that it will not be just NLL, but a large network of north London... It is sad that incrediblehannes can neither refute nor confirm the assumptions about the route - apparently there is now some kind of agreement with DTG(
Maybe it’s the East London Line from Shoreditch to New Cross and New Cross Gate, but in the LUL/LT epoch complete with A60 stock…
Is this the same guy who posted a map of the entirety of the North, East and West London Overground maps with the GOBLIN included? If so, that's very exciting as it forms the outer circle of London. Pretty sure DTG showed such a map from a developer in one of their steams a while back.
More custom buildings and a far more complex network needs a more complex timetable to make but otherwise, yeah, should be more than possible. New TP developers also seem to be given time to complete their projects outside of the usual DTG release schedule as we've seen with the Japanese route, JTs two releases as well as the ATS one.
I've always been a fan of his Transport Fever 2 work so I am very hopeful about this. He made quite a number of London assets and vehicles for Tpf2 (which isn't at the same standard as TSW, but he knows what he's doing) - Including Kings Cross, a number of skyscrapers, DLR stock, etc. He also started building London 1:1 on Tpf2 before disappearing: I'm personally quite excited for this - whatever part of London it is (if it is part of London) and looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.
If this is bringing an Overground 378 to the game then I'm super excited and can barely contain my joy.
A loco is coming with it. From the Roadmap article: "Lastly, there’s the rolling stock itself. This route will feature a train I’ve dedicated a lot of time to. Getting it into the game was challenging but immensely rewarding."
It would be great if it's set in 2012, he did mention nostalgia for his old commute. You'd then have a mixture of 313s and 378s running through the Olympic Park to the new Stratford Station. So route pretty much as it is now minus a couple of newer tower blocks along the way.
I thought he was covering the Southeastern network? As it couldn’t be the overground as that doesn’t stop at Charing Cross and one of the images shown was the St Paul’s cathedral. The bridge shown was also the line where many southeastern services pass by coming into Charing Cross.
1990-2010 is my absolute favourite period for UK railways, but NLL set in that period would be a waste. You’d be stuck with 313’s & considering a solo Dev, nothing else besides, unless he was to take on a Silverlink 150 just to run on AI. Not a realistic scope there. Doing it in a more recent time opens the door to much more AI & bigger player experience. Considering the work we’ve already seen & how long he’s been working on it, it’s all but confirmed it will be a fairly modern route.
He was working on effectively all of London but then focused efforts on the NLL (having done a lot of work on areas like Stratford and Blackfriars Station). The NLL focus would suggest that's his priority to me.
Was definitely focusing on the NLL despite starting on lines through Blackfriars. There were screenshots of Hackney Wick with London Overground branding (2010+) so this route would likely use class 378s (or 710s) with class 66s working freight, set in modern times.
This all sounds great, i'm a big fan of urban railroading and already really like GOBLIN. Hope it turns out fantastic!
I'm having a good set of runs on the WCMLS after picking it up today. Adding the NLL (even better if it included WLL too) would give some really good route hoping. You could go all the way from Brighton to MK with diversions to Richmond, Stratford and Barking. Annoyingly though the Southern Watford to East Croydon service would have to be run over 3 sections!
