This is a list of some really interesting freight trains that I really want to see in TSW3. Some of these would be perfect for existing routes, while some might require a new route. I will discuss all the ideas in detail. Here we go. 1.) UP Solid Rocket Booster Train: You heard that right; a rocket train! (Now I've got Elton John's song, "Rocket Man", stuck in my head; ha, ha.) All joking aside; this is actually a real life train. UP actually transports solid rocket boosters from a facility near Ogden, Utah (actually, it's not far from Promontory Point) to the east. The booster loads eventually arrive in Florida via the NS or CSX for use at NASA's facilities there. Lionel Trains made this consist last year, and it is really awesome. This train could be operated over TSW3's Sherman Hill. The train could include a UP C45ACCTE (ES44AC) like Lionel's set, but any modern UP diesel (SD70ACe, SD70AH-T4, C45AH (ET44AC), or SD70M; some of these need to be added in game, by the way) would work just fine. Here's a picture of the Lionel set: 2.) BNSF Boeing Fuselage Train: BNSF runs Boeing 747 airplane fuselages, jet engines, and other airplane parts on trains between Wichita, Kansas and Renton, Washington. The Montana Rail Link handles the trains through Montana with interchanges with the BNSF. This would be a fantastic train to see in TSW3. Of course, we'd need a Stevens Pass BNSF route to run these trains on. Of course, BNSF's Boeing Fuselage Trains could be run over Cajon Pass as well. For power, any BNSF modern diesel would work. Many of the photos I've seen have the train pulled by ES44s, which we have in game in the form of BNSF's ES44C4s. We could get both loaded and empty flat cars and the containers with airplane parts. If we get an MRL route, an MRL SD70ACe would be nice to see pulling one of these consists. Here is a photo of a real BNSF Boeing Fuselage Train: 3.) Continuous Welded Rail Train: Here's an interesting freight train that I really want to see in game: a Continuous Welded Rail (CWR) train. The load is actually a number of really long sections of rail that are up to a mile long each! That's pretty cool! The steel rails actually bend to allow the train to handle curves. This would be one of the coolest trains to see in game. Plus, all modern railroads run these trains, so we could see these on all of the modern US, German, and/or British routes. Here's a photo of an NS CWR train: 4.) Conrail/NS Roadrailer Train: My next idea for a unique modern US freight train is a Roadrailer Train. Basically, this is a train made of truck trailers attached directly to railroad bogies to save weight and cost. NS currently runs these consists with their subsidiary Triple Crown. This consist would be perfect on the Horseshoe Curve route with any NS (or Conrail, if we get that railroad in game) diesel. Here's a photo of an NS Roadrailer Train: If anyone else has any cool and unique modern freight train ideas, let me know in the comments. Let's get some of these ideas in TSW3 or TSW4 in the near future.
It would also be cool to see some military cargo. I can’t think of any specific examples as it rarely happens, but being able to haul weapons and military vehicles would be super cool! And it could work on any route too!
The military trains would be awesome. UP runs military vehicles to a base near Yermo, California, which is East of Barstow, where BNSF's main yard for Cajon Pass is located.
If I could have a tank - very specifically a Panzerkampfwagen for cargo. It'd be the only US route I'd ever get and play. So yes, I'd love this
All sound like fun ideas, and I'd certainly love a BNSF route not in a desert. We have too many US freight desert routes lol.
We only have 2, Cajon Pass and Cane Creek (Sherman Hill are plains not desert.) In argument we have too many east coast mountain routes, (SPG, HSC and CRR)
Sherman Hill is pretty much a Desert. I'd love to have a North West BNSF route, or something in the Midwest.
We also need Maintenance of Way (MOW) trains and equipment, including Speeders, High-rail Vehicles, Crane Cars/Boom Cars, Snowplows, Spreaders, Rail Maintenance equipment, etc.
