It´s a branch line with ~ 58km that runs from the Rhine Valley at Rastatt (we have it in TS) into the Black Forest to Freudenstadt. It´s a electrified route in15kV, most parts in single track, some tunnels and highest point of the route is "Freudenstadt Stadt" at about 738m. Between Baiersbronn and Freudenstadt there´s the steepest section with up to 50 promille (in early history of the route there was a rack installed but later deinstalled. Today all trains must have a steep route permit). From about the 2000er the route was operated by the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG). Used trains are a GT8-100C/2S (aka DB BR 450/850), GT8-100D/2S-M (speciality of the vehicles: they can use two electrification systems because they are driving into the city of Karlsruhe as tramway). Because of some network changes in Baden-Würtemberg, they drive regulary now only from Karlsruhe to Forbach. Further to Freudenstadt they are now using BR1440 as regional trains and expresses. [If this was a good decision? I don´t know, because of the very dense sequence of stations the Stadtbahn Karlsruhe seems better suitable because of shorter acceleration values. And I heard the trains has indeed very often delay]. So the route could be: Karlsruhe HBF - Rastatt - Forbach - Freudenstadt Stadt - Freudenstadt HBF Driving times (from Rastatt): ~1,5h / ~ 1h as express https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT8-100C/2S https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/GT8-100D/2S-M Here´s some cab view drives One from the "bwegt" (mobility brand of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport for local public transport in Baden-Württemberg) heres a 3-part video which shows a little with the cab itself (sadly very much sunlight from front)
