Usually 11:00/12:00 for consoles and 17:00 for steam IIRC

  3. What kind of a release time is that? Normally If I purchase a game, with a release date of the 19th Its available @ 00:01 on the 19th!

    This is bs!

Sorry I'm not ranting at you FD I know its not your fault.

The idea behind that is: 6 pm release time for steam, because Valve's HQ is in the US. So the release time is set like that, in case anything get's horrendously wrong, there's someone at Valve for an immediate contact. So it's no "bs" :)

Steam releases (for DTG at least) have always been late afternoon UK time because that's when the team at Valve get into their west coast US offices...
It's been that way for the six years I've been playing TSC and TSW

  6. Ohhhhhh ok. :( I better go back to work then.

    Thanks.

Just checked and the pre-release 10% discount is on for another 4 hours, so that may indicate the estimated release time minimum

Why does this continue to come up every time there's a new Steam release.? It's so tiresome. Steam is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington on the West Coast of the US, which is 8 hours behind the UK. When they get into work over there it's already late afternoon in Europe.
Don't they teach geography over there any more?

Of course, but people get used to what they're used to and if other platforms (or developers) can release at midnight local time (or UTC) then this is a difference. Some people don't like different

That's not true... That's a complete misunderstanding! It's not depending on the valve headquarters but pure the marketing strategy.... On 5 o'clock everyone is home from work and the developer hopes more people buy the product. There are a lot off DLCs are released in morning times... Aerosoft is a German company that release a lot of DLCs for Omsi bus simulator in the morning hours.... The game studio can activate the process by its own with no permission from valve.

Matt P has stated many times over the years that it's because of when Valve support desk opens. You can choose to believe this or not

  14. I hate searching for the answers on google. People rely on google searches so much these days its turning the world stupid.

That was for years ago but at this time it is in this 24h economy not realistic anymore... Valve is a platform that selling around the world and it's not realistic to release games only on Washington time zone.

Proven not to be true... The problem is that there's now more information (fairly useless or not) available than there is brain space
But really, if you want to know something you can literally look it up faster than you could coming on here and saying you don't know.

DTG has no interesting in US market. The selling point is more related to the EU and US selling is a small extra selling income but 90% are EU customers.

A > There are other search engines
B > people would of course survive, but google makes it easier for people (who know how to use it) to get relevant information quickly without having to retain that information all the time
C > Not everything is reliant on having information to hand in all circumstances, but it's probably best BEFORE making a statement that it isn't easily fact checked within 10 seconds... maybe that's just me

Where are you getting these stats from?
Surely the only people who truly have those stats are DTG and the stores themselves

    lol, this google thing,
it's like facebook where people ask on the buy and sell groups 'what time does the tesco at the end of my street close at?

10 seconds on google will get you the answer, but nooooo, you have to make a post and get someone else to google it for you.

The technology is there, it's the year 2022, yet people still want to act like it's the early 90's where you have to go to the library to look things up or ask someone else who knows what you don't.

  25. How would you manage these arguments you seem to like so much without google at your fingertips? Would we have to wait a day for your answer whilst you go and fact check it down the library?

You seem to like to always be right but the truth is.... googles right not you!

  26. Society has relied on this method for 100s of years. Its so sad to see kids these days ask their parents questions for the parent to get out their phone and look for the answer! To a question that should be common knowledge.

hmmmm. it's almost as if you're saying google / technology advances are bad.

when i was at school, i was really bad at maths, the teachers refused to let me use a calculator, saying 'you will not have a calculator in your pocket all the time when you're an adult'

yeah, they were wrong about that weren't they,
that same 'calculator in my pocket' can access pretty much anything that was written down in the past 2000+ years,

And i don't know about others, but every time i find something new out on google or what ever other site i'm reading, i am learning.

Technology moves on, and if you chose not to take advantage of it you are the one missing out... just remember, you are playing at driving trains on a computer.... go back 30 years and to do that you'd have needed to build a model railway, get a job as a train driver or volunteer at preserved railway.... to trundle along at 25mph for 5 or 6 miles before turning around and coming back.

Why does it matter if it gets released at 00:01 or 20:00? When I order something at work and they say it will be delivered on the 19th of July, I don't go mad at the supplier at 9:30am, as it hasn't been delivered yet!

It hardly seems worth getting your knickers in a twist over! Modern technology is turning us into a species of impatient beings.

  32. Yea they are in a way, I love technology but people rely to much on it. look when face book went down not to long ago, There was people that wanted to kill themselves because they couldn't get on face book, would you say that's a good thing?

I wasn't the best a maths but I stuck at it, so if I'm ever in a position where I need to use maths and my phone is dead and I don't have a calculator! There's no chance I'm going to be short changed. You may always have a calculator in your pocket but its not 100% always going to work. say your in a situation, your phone is dead! The battery is flat, You dropped it and its broke, now you teacher was right you ain't got a calculator.

And where will the preserved railways be when every ones happy sitting at home playing tsw instead of going the distance to have the experience?

Not really. I am fairly lucky in that I DO retain (useless) information so I can manage without google for the most part, I also don't have too much of an emotional reaction if I'm wrong, or if I turn up at a place thinking it's open when it's not.
But it's also very handy to have a huge index of information to hand, and that's what google is. It doesn't have information of it's own per se, but if you know how to use it properly you can easily find information you DON'T know very quickly.
So, again, it's not that google has that info, but it has a list of information within it's database that might give you the answer and it's up to you to know how to extract that

I actually dislike more the "what was today's update about?" weekly post, regularly posted a few minutes before (or even after!) the patch notes are up on the announcement section.

Whilst I dislike those posts in a "why can't you just wait?" way, it is also true that before putting out any update, the notes should be compiled and posted so people don't NEED to do that sort of thing. Havin done some "dev" in my time I know if I don't post notes and updates I get email after email asking why something has moved or what does that checkbox do, when a simple email beforehand clears it all up

I agree and don't fully trust google so I use a different browser and search engine. I would add Wiki to that as well. There is so much that is false on there. I go on TIKHistory and find his videos really informative and he isn't very impressed with Wiki, he said once 'they can't even get the date right for the battle of Stalingrad!'

Just lie to the kids, they are being taught rubbish anyway...haha Joking of course. I agree. If the data is really obscure then maybe and I will admit I have done it but if it is 'common' then I always try.

Don't they say 75% of statistics are made up? :)

I understand your worries, but there will always be people who want to have the experience. The missus and I have been going out and enjoying castles, old towns, Natural History Museum, pubs, bars, cafes, walks, bbqs, all manner of cultural things, since the lifting of covid restrictions.

Most cultural attractions (including heritage railways) are photographed/filmed/uploaded online but nothing quite beats getting outside the usual drudgery and routine, and actually taking in the sights and sounds of something that interests you, in person.

They say that 8 out of 10 cats prefer Whiskas. I wonder which 10 cats they asked cos I’ve never met a cat who likes the stuff.

Anyone who lives with cats will tell you that our feline masters will immediately refuse to eat anything which you've brought in bulk/is on special offer even if they wouldnt eat anything else up to that precise moment.

That's very true. Cats do not like change that is imposed on them. Do not move the litter box without asking first and always give them the choice of trying a new cat food or sticking with the old one.

( How did this thread get here? )

I think the only thing that might be worse than the lighting in TSW, is the snow.

Given just how bad the lighting is TSW2 if they removed services from say 10.30 pm to say 4.am would that improve the game any? I imagine it would for the old gen no?
