Just got a PS5 Digital and am moving over some games from my PS4 using a USB SSD external storage drive. I copied over the PS4 version of Train Sim World 2 (TSW2) and it runs well, especially the previously problematic London to Brighton Route. All in all I am very happy with the PS5 and the huge boost in performance that it brings so I started upgrading some of my games to the PS5 versions. So far I have done Watch Dogs Legion, No Man's Sky and Kerbal Space Program and the process has gone like clockwork. Finally I got around to TSW2 and things went (not unexpectedly) pear shaped! For the life of me I cannot even find the PS5 core update for TSW2. Some routes update to the PS5 version but they are not the ones used in the game and appear under a TSW3 storage block (on console SSD) separate from the PS4 installation. I do NOT own TSW3 and am unlikely to buy it until I see the PS5 version of TSW2 actually running. I renewed my licenses and tried deleting all TSW before reloading everything from the library page using the manage contents option. After some frustrating hours I got the full PS4 installation back and running but still cannot upgrade to the PS5 version. Whilst I am enjoying the PS4 TSW2 version, I would like to upgrade it for the PS5 to get the full benefits of the new machine. I am at my wits end with this and cannot understand why it so complex when compared to the upgrades for the other titles which where so easy to perform. Is it because TSW3 has replaced TSW2 and the older title is no longer supported or am I missing something out which when revealed will make me look very silly? Either way can someone please help out here and put me out of my misery as this is now into day 3 and is taking up far too much of my time!
I understand your frustration & annoyance too. Sorry I cannot advise or help. I am about to post a thread about similar thing as I have just purchased TSW3 Digital version from PS store. I currently have TSW2 Disc PS4 & a load of routes, some in both PS4, PS5 options. When I upload TSW3 on my PS5 will I be able to bring all my Routes across & profile preferably, however I believe the latter is not possible ?? so will I have to keep them as playing seperate Games, ie: TSW2 PS4 version existing routes / profile & TSW3 PS5 version starting with a brand new profile, it is defo not straight forward !
That is indeed a unique scenario. DTG removed TSW2 from the storefronts soon after the release of TSW3 because it would frankly not make sense to offer players the older installment if the new one supports all the same features and DLCs. But I don’t know what happens to existing TSW2 players who want to upgrade their last gen versions to the next gen one. Isn’t this usually done through the PlayStation store page? But that store page is presumably no longer there if the game is no longer being sold. I hope you get a nice response that can help you here. If that isn’t the case, perhaps contacting support may work. You could ask for a game key/code for the next gen version if you can’t download it yourself.
It is like banging your head on a brick wall. I've updated 3 other games with absolutely no problems but TSW2 is getting nowhere. These are amongst the sources I have used for inspiration/help but nothing seems to work with TSW2. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...tion-from-ps4-to-ps5-and-other-ps-faqs.43565/ https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com...74756-how-to-upgrade-ps4-games-add-ons-on-ps5 https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/games/upgrade-ps4-game-to-ps5-version/ Yet again I seem to be edging towards anger regarding problems with Train Sim World.
They should make an update for TSW2. That update should make it possible to download the ps5 version of tsw2 from PSN caused from the playstation library like we can do it with the PS4 version of TSW2 at the PS5.
Looks like you need to re-buy the game for the PS5 version and data transfer only works on the same platform only. Different story for the Xbox because the game is optimized for Series X/S and your profiles will simply carry over to the Series X/S version from Xbox One and Xbox One X version
The short answer is no. To upgrade you have to "buy" it on the store page (though obviously it was free). Since you can't buy the game on the storefront anymore, the upgrade has gone wih it. If you want the PS5 version of TSW2 now, the only option is the disc version (which won't be of use to you since you have the digital PS5)
Still cannot get over the irony of the "Play has no limits" slogan on the console that doesn't just give you the new gen version of a game free as standard or let you use your existing cloud saves on it by default, and then as insult to injury has an arbitrary DLC limit.
Correct but for us Xbox players we can simply upgrade for free due to how cloud save keeps both Xbox One version and Series X optimized versions of the same game in this case TSW 2 & 3. In other games, this applies to Activision Blizzard Overwatch 2 and Call Of Duty post-2020 where Xbox One saves simply carry over to Series X/S. For me, I use this on Halo Warframe and Overwatch
Have got to defend PlayStation a bit here: There would be no problem upgrading to the PS5 version if the game was still in the store. DTG is the only developer I know of who immediately removes a game from the storefronts once its successor is released. For example, you can still get some really old F1 games, they never removed them. Many developers have implemented PS4 -> PS5 progress transfer without any problems. DTG simply didn’t bother developing the feature and quietly removed it from the roadmap. The DLC limit is only an issue for TSW because the game mounts/activates all DLC at all times, not just when a certain piece of downloadable content is required. Other developers with huge DLC sizes have used such mounting systems from the very beginning, and DTG is finally implementing this with the Add-On Manager years later.
Not an issue on PC or XBox where delisted games you own can still be downloaded on a new system and can be flagged to automatically grant ownership of the newer version of the product. The real issue is in how Sony didn't bother to implement a global system for this that every dev could simply use, and left it up to the devs to implement inconsistently. Yes, but it's not something which serves any purpose and has no rationale for being there. It's a wholly unnecessary imposition that the console would function fine without.
TSW2 is no longer available to buy in the Playstation store. At one point I deleted TSW2 completely off the PS5 and then went to the library where it was still listed as a game I own. I downloaded TSW2 (for PS4) using the "Manage contents" option as well as all my DLCs so TSW2 is still available to download from the Playstation store even if it not visible at the store front. Presumably the PS5 version of TSW2 is on there too for anyone who upgraded to it as it would be flagged in their library as being owned. Having bought TSW 2020 and TSW2 it seems that I am now being nudged towards the desired resolution of me buying TSW3 but that is never going to happen until : 1) I Get the PS5 upgrade to TSW2 2) The PS5 performance issues with TSW3 are sorted. I would consider paying for the PS5 digital version of TSW2 rather than buying TSW3.
What you're saying is normal. If you bought something on PSN previously at any point, you can re-download it (with very limited exceptions such as PT). If you didn't "buy" TSW2 PS5, you cannot claim it now for the reasons I said previously. Absolutely nothing is going to change that, unless DTG can issue you a key for it, which you'd need to raise a ticket for to ask (I don't know if you did that already)
Thanks Fred. I bought No Man's Sky, Kerbal Space program and Watchdog Legions for the PS4 and have been given a free upgrade to the PS5 at no charge. Likewise the PS5 upgrade to TSW2 was announced as a free upgrade to all customers. I only find myself in this situation with TSW2 because DTG have removed it from the Playstation store to get people to buy TSW3 which by many accounts has numerous performance issues on the PS5 and is not a product that I want in it's current state. I submitted a ticket yesterday (Friday 20 Jan 2023) so hope to hear from DTG sometime next week... Hopefully... Maybe... Possibly...
And if anybody did not recognized it. At the same moment they removed TSW2 from PSN, the former routes included in TSW2 appeared as single dlc's. Each single dlc has now the price of TSW2, that included that 3 routes before.
The tech support people are currently reviewing my ticket so I await their reply. As I've already said I would consider paying for the PS5 digital version of TSW2 rather than buying TSW3.
Unashamed bump! Support page says that there is "unprecedented level of demand for support" and the "Technical Report" section of this forum advised the following "If you are having a problem of a technical nature posting in this forum is likely to get you a faster response than waiting for the support team." so I have now also posted a thread on there. This is not the sort of problem that will require a massive recoding effort to fix so I would hope to get some response and a solution fairly quickly. Am I hoping for too much?
This is not the case for every game in the MS Store. For example NBA 2k23 has separate XBox One and Series S|X versions. Separate games with zero crossover. You sound like every Product Manager I ever worked with: they have never seen the codebase, but they know exactly how much a change would take to be designed, implemented and tested.
A very small number of publishers have opted out of it for a very narrow number of games, but that is a specific choice on the part of the publisher and they have to set the game up to not use the existing available backend that Microsoft put in place for it. On Playstation, devs have to design and implement their own disparate systems from scratch for doing it, rather than having a global one in place that merely requires a small bit of QA to ensure file compatibility and then enabling the flag in the SKU
Indeed. All too often "just make it work" is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of where the problem lies in making something work, and if it is indeed possible within the existing framework of a project to make it work. Even when you have a well set up system for something with all sorts of support from the platform holder, like in the case of Microsoft's Smart Delivery system, sometimes quirks can pop up because the dev slipped up in their own implementation and testing of it. Take CP77 on last gen consoles. Before the new updates which split the gen8 and gen9 versions, playing it on a new gen console, the game would detect the higher spec machine was running it in backcompat mode and enable new options for higher graphics quality. However, CDPR didn't consider that the way they had set that up, the flag for that setting remained on in any saves generated using it. So if someone played their save at a friend's house on their new Series X, then went home and tried it on their XBox One again, suddenly they had single digit framerates due to it trying to push higher settings than the console could handle. All because of an easily overlooked failure to have it run the check at both ends.
You sound like someone who has not read my post correctly nor understands what the problem is. All alterations to the codebase was done long ago and software involved was released back in 2021. There is no problem with the coding, hence no need to look at it or change it. I require access to it as it was released as a free download for customers to update from PS4 to PS5. As I bought both TSW2020, TSW2 and various DLCs, I am entitled to the update but cannot access it. Thanks for your advice on the IT world but with all due respect I started working in the industry back in 1979 which was in all likelihood before you were even born.
https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/is-ps5-upgrade-to-tsw2-still-available.64247/#post-594586 I neither gamble nor waste my time getting into pointless arguments with complete strangers on a web forum. I'm off to cook dinner for my missus now so I bide you a good evening, old chap.
The implication there is that a member of the community may be able to answer a question quicker than the DTG staff can respond to a ticket, dependent on the question of course Regarding the technical complexities that you allude to, there are none. The game has been unpublished from Sony's store by DTG and will never come back in digital form (also applies other stores) and this will not be reversed It is and will always remain an impossibility for a customer to obtain the digital version of TSW2 from the point it was delisted forwards, so as I said before the only possibility that remains to you is seeing if DTG are able to give you a key for it. If they haven't answered your query yet, have patience - they will get to you (speaking as someone who has raised product key related tickets recently)
It may just be a while before they get to look at your issue rather than how easily it could be resolved when they do. In this instance the only way the forum can help is if someone else has had the same issue and they can tell you if and how it was resolved by support. In theory you are entitled to your upgrade and DTG removing TSW2 from the store was always going to create issues like this. I hope they get back to you with a solution so you can get your upgrade.
Thanking you both for your advice. As an update, I have submitted a support ticket and it is being dealt with very quickly by Chris at DTG. As you have pointed out TSW2 being removed from the Playstation Store is at the heart of the issue and they have asked me to produce proof of purchase before trying to issue a PS5 digital key for TSW2. I have now done that and am awaiting further developments. I am very impressed and happy with the way DTG have responded to my problem. and will post any further updates as they happen. I would also like to thank all members of the community here who have tried to help.
Final update here! Chris and the support team have provided me with a digital PS5 TSW2 key and it is being downloaded right now. To be honest I was expecting this issue to be unsolvable and was resigned to sticking to the PS4 version though I thought it was worth a try contacting the tech team. I am very happy with the outcome. A score of 5 stars 10/10 is thoroughly deserved and I am extremely grateful to Chris and the team at DTG for the way they have helped me sort this all out. Thank You.
Have the same problem right now. Let's open a ticket and hope, DTG is still helping people with this out.
