I came upon this very interesting thread at the Railworks Austria forum. Read the replys from the admin. https://railworks-austria.at/forum/index.php?thread/2277-taurus-1216-und-etcs/ Railworks Austria is developing for a new sim. Not TSW and not Zusi either. And since SimRail is not new either, that might not be it. So what could it realistically be? One thing i am finding increasingly strange is the ongoing silence from DTG after the beta strain of core updates. I am wondering if there is actually a TSC v2 coming. A version that will be able to load some (but not all) legacy dlc. Why do i think this might be the case: The problem with the TSC core renewal was the “must not break any dlc” rule DTG set for themselves. But with a v2 of TSC they can break some DLC, and it will be up to developers to fix compabilities. Why would DTG want to make a v2 of TSC? Because they were unable to do things with old tsc vore that would REALLY futureproof the core in terms of future computing (multicore, arm cpu architecture support etc…..) Let’s see.
Unless you're a registered user of Railworks Austria people won't be able to see the post you refer to. I think there's a bit of wishful thinking going on here. From what's been said you could also speculate RA are doing new versions of Run 8 or Trainz. I think all of these are unlikely.
It is not SimRail but a platform called Train Simulator Next https://trainsimnext.de/index.html Something that is under development for release in October 2025 - just a few pictures of a loco on track ATM I don't know what will happen with it but I doubt it is anything to do with TSC or that it would use TSC assets.
Looking forward to seeing what happens with Train Simulator Next for sure. I really hope Microsoft gets back into train simulators at some point. They could definitely use the MSFS 2024 engine for sure.
Looks to me more like they are setting up as a rival product to Zusi 3. Maybe it will even have a save game feature, which Zusi doesn't. Can't really see it tying in to TSC in any way and, even though it seems DTG are moving more in the direction of being a publisher than developer, they are unlikely to adopt a rival train game.
I don't know what to think. It's plausible that they used fixing TSC as an exercise and pilot, and now want money from the process. For me the Microsoft path is more reasonable, with Windows or Office as examples. If they start a new sim, it will need a lot of content to gain traction. Plus bugs like black terrain or workshop extractor aside, people expect nice shaders, weather and all else. If the new version is within TSC, then it might breathe fresh life into the sim. Yes, some content desperately needs a revamp. Meaning that they might attract new players who will finance the endeavour. I get that it might break some stuff, requiring a separate old install for those if you care to use them. (TSC2 can ignore certain assets / routes, no need to segregate. The actual trouble is AP, Reshade, RWE.) If it's separate, either they clone most content and lure existing owners, or it will be TSW all over again. Cloning also makes sense as there are many things that could be done better. My pet peeve is merging cloned assets. Funny question is, do people need to repurchase everything, like with TSW? By the way for comparison's sake, I just got 5 routes with their assets for 4€. It's a lure. There is a point where people don't care. But 10% off 40€ to purchase half of a TSC route, no.
Interesting. I wonder what the special tool requirements is though since 64 gigs of RAM is kinda crazy lol
I noticed this bit from that page "Train Simulator NEXT is a new platform in the train simulation genre." and "A high-speed train awaits you, which travels at up to 450 km/h in regular operation. You can also drive regional and freight trains with multiple units and locomotives." Are they creating a fictional Maglev route?
I clicked on the FB link and it says page not available There is a post saying the TSN Object Editor would be available in January https://tsnext.dev/index.php?thread/61-the-object-editor-will-be-ready-in-january-2025/
