PC Is There A Mod That Disables Lirr2 Safety Systems?

Discussion in 'TSW General Discussion' started by trainsimgaming1001, May 6, 2024.

  1. Pretty self-explanatory. I am looking for a mod that disables the mandatory safety systems for the new LIRR.
And please don't comment "Just play LIRR1".

either get to know and use them better or don't play LIRR2, otherwise you may start a war if you or someone else makes a mod on that, since the non-disablable safety systems were a licensing requirement from MTA (I think thats stupid but we can be lucky to get a license for an upgraded LIRR from them at all), so making a mod for that could possibly get DTG in trouble. I believe matt also said something along the lines of that we may rather not try to crack that shell open. but in the end, nobody can really stop you. just think if you really want that or not.

The safety systems aren't too difficult to master compared to pzb and they are quite fun to use. With practice, you'll get better and better

there are two possible situations that could result from this, one is for dtg to get into serious legal trouble due to breach of licensing agreement and being forced to withdraw the dlc from sale and the other is for dtg to put an end to the mods (perhaps implementing a digital signature in the pak files and no longer allowing unofficial pak files to be read by the executable, i.e., those that do not contain this digital signature)
edit: I also forgot to point out that this would also be the end of the PC editor

Now about the security systems, I was also against this requirement from the MTA, I thought it would be bad to play this way but in the end I just got used to it, it's not as bad and difficult as it seems, you get used to it and get practice and the fact that security systems are on increases realism and immersion since in real life security systems are always on

Instead of waiting for a mod you should get comfortable and learn the systems. There’s a manual and videos by the devs explaining how to use the safety systems but to put is simply always follow the lower of the 2 speed limits (track and signal speeds).

Or if you're on Steam and have played TSW for less than 2 hours since buying LIRR 2, refund it.

Although I elected not to buy immediately on release, I will in all likelihood pick this up when it gets a sale discount, probably Christmas, and relish the challenge of meeting the safety systems head on.

I'd be willing to bet that none of the established modders for TSW will create a mod which does what the OP wants. They have the welfare of the game and players at heart, notwithstanding any stern reaction from DTG.

So either play the route as released or don't play it at all.

It’s the advanced, unsigned speed reduction sections prior to upcoming more restrictive signals which sometimes catch me out, but it’s pretty straightforward once you learn to anticipate them (basically just drive like an old lady). Nowhere near as nasty as PZB but even that is not too bad once you’ve mastered it.

My advice, refund LIRR v2 and play the original LIRR with safeties off. Honestly, a mod to disable the v2 safeties may result in DTG blocking it, or at worst, LIRR themselves throwing their toys out of the pram and revoking the licence, so it’s really in no one’s interest.

It's not that hard. Just play it and stop nagging about it. Otherwise: play LIRR1

I'm not sure LIRR2 would even be playable without them- too many unsigned speed restrictions, too much traffic density constantly causing unanticipated slowdowns.

And even to take a stab at it, you would have to learn the LIRR visual signals- for multiple zones - as well as the NORAC system. Which is more work, frankly, than just getting used to the box on your dashboard that tells you how fast to go.

OP - Opening Poster or words to that effect.

As others have said I hope and doubt any respected modder would even touch this topic. And even if such mod did exist Id expect DTG wouldn't permit it being discussed or linked to on their official forums at the absolute minimum.

Take an hour to learn the systems, you will be glad of it once you do.

I did that for all countries I played routes on... I mean, I started TSW without that stuff, but it got boring real quick... once I started learning this, it has become more immersive and engaging immediately, because every run it keeps you on your toes... even UK routes that are generally more benevolent :D

with the arrival of new LIRR, I have realized, after playing a lot of US routes with safety systems on, that I have been misunderstanding their purpose and such all the time, still managed to ride according to them (kept to the lowest of the three numbers as Matt said in latest tutorial video, and braked when stuff started beeping :D )... now I understand them much better, and did a run on Harlem, even more enjoyable than before, since it was smooth sailing this time :)

This seems overdramatic don't you think? How many times have mods been used in TSW and TSC that has resulted in a license being stripped because I can't think of any. DTG haven't lost a license due to modders in tsw nor could they even be held responsible for what a modder even does.

I'm sure there will be a mod at some point that allows the player to disable the safety system. I don't get why there are players that are concerned when I would guarantee that the MTA wouldn't care. Games like OPENBVE, OMSI and even Roblox have MTA subway trains and buses and the MTA has never taken those modders to court over it.

If there was a mod, I'm pretty sure it would probably just be a push of a button instead of remodeling the panel behing the driver anyways. If there ever was a mod, that doesn't stop players from enjoying the LIRR 2.

The safety systems are the exact same as in the Harlem Line. If they were to be disabled, it wouldn't make the route unplayable. In harlem for example, the cab singaling display does change when the systems are off but you just don't have the alerter going off.

I think that the safety systems aren't difficult to master, but I understand that it isn’t the case for everyone

Just try and learn the systems, or don't bother with the route.

Any attempt to deliberately go against the terms of a legal agreement will not end well, for us or DTG.

Perhaps DTG has created a rod for its own back by negotiating licences in the first place? What if they used branding for all their content, then debranded items where brand owners pushed back? Or, make life simpler by debranding everything and let modders do the rest? AP do this all the time but provide the branding mods themselves! :D

Then watch their sales crater. I won't buy an unbranded/fictional train, and I know I'm not alone. Might as well play Derail Valley instead.

I've no dog in this fight but am just popping in to offer a quick reply to this post :)

They could do what Armstrong Powerhouse do, they don't have licenses to sell content with certain brands so while their "paid for" installer comes with unbranded stock they then offer a free download of a "branding patch" to put the relevant logos on the rolling stock.

The thing is Armstrong Powerhouse are small enough to fly under the radar, DTG could never fake a livery because they couldn't secure the license and then go and supply it anyway.

Why can we not just accept safety systems are permanently on due to licensing requirements? In the grand scheme of things this is not a world ending change and definitely not the worst thing they could’ve done. We don’t need to remove all branding from content and role out branding patches just to avoid things like this!

Nope. They were quite significantly changed for LIRR V2. That's not saying that the route would be unplayable without them, but your statement was false.

ATC/ACSES really isn’t rocket science. Just acknowledge it and do what it’s telling you.

Be thankful DB haven’t demanded that PZB & LZB is always on. :)

    1. The cab aspects are different. If you look on the Harlem Line M7A you see that it has letters rather than speed codes (M, L, R etc). Some of these are just different "names" for the same speed code, but some are different.

    2. The intervention of ATC speed request brake is totally different on the LIRR V2 trains vs Harlem M7A.

    3. Requirement criteria to acknowledge the ATC and ACSES penalty brakes are different.

    4. Most likely (haven't confirmed) the way ACSES works is different.

    5. Penalty brake might be different on ATC as well (haven't confirmed).

    6. "under the hood" the trains use different components for the core ACSES/ATC functions. The LIRR V2 ATC and ACSES components share more "ancestry" with the Northeast Corridor DLCs, but is modified to be accurate to LIRR.

why should we have to?...its not a real train! What a strange requirement! I couldnt care less but if the op wants to turn the safety systems off why shoudn't he be able to? Its just a game after all!

Say thank you to all the folks uploading silly train sim crash compilations on Youtube.

For the licensor, it's not just a game but a representation of their company and procedures to guarantee safe travel. In the age before Youtube, nobody gave a damn what you did with your game, but the times they are a-changing.

I won't make such a mod and to be honest I doubt it would be an easy task anyway. "It's not just ticking a checkbox." :)

Not worth the fuss as DTG and Brandon did a good job on ensuring the stuff works. Don't like it - don't buy it. (I know this will trigger flaming responses, but I don't care.)

A small question/are the processes too difficult or too complicated for you for the security systems? (The question goes to everyone who reads this (I ask this because I have read it here several times and have also seen it more often on YouTube that people say that the security system there is very difficult/Unfortunately I can't judge it, so I would like to ask.

I like it and bought it! That is the point. I would play it with the safety systems on but in my opinion the op should have the choice. No one will be injured if he crashes the train! He may prefer to relax more and have a less challenging gaming experience!

yes, I agree and I also think so, however, if we want to have the game and the dlcs to play with, we have to obey the licensor's requirements, otherwise there would be no lirr commuter and in a worse scenario there would be no dlcs and not even tsw

But it has been well explained why it is not an option. At some point one has to accept that before going in circles. It's easy, and learning the system is much more fun and better spent time than complaining about things that will not change. PZB is a challenge, but ATC/ACSES does almost all the work for you.

Whether not accepting a No is the path of a warrior or fool - you decide. ;)

My final comment on this. DB (who presumably also care about their reputation), dont have such a stipulation that safety systems are turned on. So this is perhaps a matter of weak negotiation on DTG's part? DTG produce some great stuff but I don't always tow their party line. What happened to Matt's comment on this btw?

  38. Spikee1975

    Spikee1975 Guest

A negotiation ends with an agreement. If the licensor says No, it's DTG's decision to make the route according to that agreement or not. And they made the right decision imho.

And even knowing the answers to your questions (which won't be publicly discussed) will not change the outcome, so it's futile anyway.

Trust me, that's an infringement. AP can get away with it because they're too small to sue. DTG isn't.

Because you cannot go against the terms of a legal agreement. Simple as that.

To us, its a game. To the company represented, its their company's reputation.

If DTG go against the terms of any license, the company giving the license have every right to sue them.

plus, I assume that since the safety systems were the condition for the agreement to take place, DTG also had to make sure they are implemented properly... which should (havent played it yet, have to wait till my next salary *sigh*) at least in theory, ensure that this is the best implementation of those systems in TSW yet... which is fine by me :) till then I am honing my skills on Harlem Line - there the ATC isnt as forgiving as on LIRR (as it doesnt also have ASC), I managed to get a penalty brake approaching GCT lol cos I didnt brake in time for M aspect :D but thats fine, restarted service, made sure to watch for that point and besides a couple beeps I didnt get penalty brake :)

for me it is indeed fun... I would even appreciate gradual tightening of the challenge, even to almost ZUSI-like levels :D to the point where I could apply for an engineer :D heh, one can dream, cant they? :D

I saw my name mentioned, but not really sure I need to add anything to what's been said previously, by myself elsewhere and others in this very thread.

I will say, I smile each time I see someone talk about branding patches like they're some ultimate solution to the problem. They're not at all, just like the argument "if its free, it doesnt count" (which the branding patch concept is built on), equally wrong.

And that's before you remember how many players are not on PC, and thus would not be able to download such a thing anyway.

    Matt.

IIRC when they weren’t cooperating, Union Pacific’s long arm also extended to freeware. Not sure if anyone actually got sued but I expect a few ‘cease and desists” were issued. Same situation that happened with American Airlines in Flight Sim (not sure if that’s still the case, kind of out of touch with the FS scene other than the new version probably appears later this year).

Hopefully no damage done to the license by these posts popping up and, while I’m not normally in favour of too much forum censorship, do wonder if the mods need to be locking or removing any of these types of posts or suggestions that are inevitably going to keep popping up.

Anyhow this is all making me feel like going and buying LIRR 2 now, while the existing owner discount is still available rather than wait for a future sale. Reckon there is enough in my Steam Wallet to cover that and ATS Nebraska which seems to be imminent.

I would like the opposite. When I come to a parked train, I turn on the security systems. If they take over the train from a fellow driver, all safety systems should already be on. I always try to leave the train on time and I look for a fuse from the security device at the departure point.

Mandatory safety systems is a part of MTA's licensing requirement so if somebody make mod that disable the safety systems, it would violate the licensing agreement. In the case, DTG will be forced to withdraw all MTA related contents ( LIRR and HAR) from sale, and MTA would longer willing to cooperate with DTG,they can even sue DTG if they want. No one wants to see that happen, so try to learn the safety systems they are not as hard as PZB。

I think everything has been said that needs to be said on the LIRR license and safety systems. Persistently beating this dead horse is in no one's interest. I believe it's time to close this and any similar thread that asks for a mod that could kill a very good route and perhaps jeopardize future projects.

yep, that was literally the whole reason why the LIRR 2.0 route got such a major delay, and now a bunch of guys wants to basically sabotage that... we know how paranoid and anxious and such these companies can get, so it wouldnt be wise to provoke them in this way... personally I find US passenger routes interesting and I wish they had safety systems implemented in such good way as here or Harlem (wish Antelope Valley had more strict implementation of safety systems as to actually enforce speeds and such)

so guys, take your time, learn this, it isnt as hard as some other systems :)
