Since most of the retro routes in game are set in West Germany is there a reason to why there are none in the former German Democratic Republic written in German language as Deutschen Demokratischen Republik East Germany?
For a retro East German Deutsche Reichsbahn route these must be a combined steam Diesel and electric route something like Hauptstrecke Berlin Angermünde Stralsund Sassnitz and the gateway to Berlin route Potsdam Griebnitzsee Magdeburg Marienborn BRD Helmstedt Braunschweig.
followed by backdated rapid transit which was Hauptstrecke Magdeburg Dessau Bitterfeld Leipzig Hbf Tharandter Rampe Dresden Altstadt Chemnitz & Nahverkehr Dresden routes. Key feature of this is that you have German steam locomotives 65.10 52.80 18 201 working alongside the electric 243 250 Diesel V100 110-112 132 locomotives. The way you play German steam locomotives is that you play them like a British Steam locomotive and know your Punktförmige Zugbeeinflussung speed limits because they were fitted with it from the 1930s onwards
That way the community has more old German routes to play instead of the ones found in West Germany with the Retro East German Road giving retro West German Road selected railtour services or run through interzone trains. That includes IC game play in the form of Städteexpress DR-Y Wagen Orange and cream Produktfarben (promotional poster uses the 155 container locomotive) UIC Rekowagen local/regional and DR-Y Wagen Speisewagen WGre type website is Frankfurt historical Railway Association.
With these types of Rolling Stock the Developers can satisfy some players who want to see the other side of the Iron Curtain during the Erich Honecker era of GDR which corresponds too United Kingdom Margaret Thatcher United States Richard Nixon all the way to George HW Bush.
For the diesel engines this is made by VEB Kühlautomat Johannisthal who makes them for VEB Karl Marx Babelsberg diesel locomotives except for DR Baureihe 119 120 132 which are imported from the RGW. railway carriages Passenger VEB Waggonbau Görlitz. Electric locomotives VEB Hans Beimler Hennigsdorf VEB Volksegeiner Betrieb this means people's owned Enterprise which actually makes the advertisements in the former East Germany. Petrol VEB Minol as written on the Zacns

Good suggestion! It’s about time something older than the 1990‘s comes.

Something I’d like to see would be a single track diesel mainline, preferably with the Ludmilla (nowadays br 232), The Taigatrommel (Soviet class m62) and also the DR V100 (nowadays 204)

I agree with you and for the DR V100 the 204 it would be better if it has the original VEB Kühlautomat Johannistal engine not what we have now because it would be out of date if it was backdated to the German Democratic Republic era since the 204 has a Caterpillar engine

Although making an East German route would need A LOT of new assets.

But something like the diesel legends add on for Dresden Chemnitz would not be too much, but although a great way to add new experiences

You are correct and further more we can get the East German version of 363 & 365 the DR Baureihe 104-106 Goldbroiler V60 which we don't have. When it comes to DR Baureihe 211 242 Holzrolller they are simply the same age as a DB Baureihe 110.3 although specialized to do mixed traffic.
I have already addressed the diesel Legends Pack for Tharandter Rampe Dresden Chemnitz (Karl Marx Stadt) & Nahverkehr Dresden click on my signature for Legends of the GDR.

I say yes. By all accounts some of the old East German stock was even more uncomfortable than the DB UIC BM stock!

I’m guessing the hard part would be research given during the communist regime everything was pretty much locked down re photography and recording details of infrastructure etc.

I also come from the area of the former GDR. Researching this (fortunately) bygone era shouldn't be that difficult. Although it was not possible to buy video cameras at that time (except for the ones from the Stasi secret service), there were enough railroad fans who took very good photos and which are now accessible to everyone on various websites. Old timetables also still exist in so-called DR course books. The 3D assets, such as old semaphore signals, do not differ as much as the ones currently used on the Niddertalbahn. That's why it would make sense to do a one-lane branch line first. Cult East German cars like the Trabant or "Trabi" would certainly be fun to model. There were also a lot of dilapidated buildings across from Western Germany, since there was a typical shortage economy at the time.

A GDR era route would be a fine addition. Didn't German Railroads do a couple of routes for MSTS?

It might also benefit DTG as any mention of bugs could lead to the person raising the issue disappearing... :o

I just had an crazy idea…

When there’s a route route set in the DDR being made, why not add a drivable Trabant to move along the line :D

You are correct and the Nahverkehr Dresden Hl signals can be carried over to the Mainlines which are Hauptstrecke Marienborn Magdeburg Potsdam Griebnitzsee British Sector Berlin Wannsee followed by Inselbahn Stralsund Sassnitz part of Hauptstrecke Berlin Angermünde Sassnitz. GDR to KWG line is Hauptstrecke Erfurt Eisenach Förtha Gerstungen Bebra Fulda. The reason to why I had Förtha added there is that the Thüringer Bahn uses the Grenzübergang Herleshausen Wartha first until 1963. After 1963 the Förtha Gerstungen Bebra line was opened.

Which one of those routes set in the German Democratic Republic maybe the whole of Nahverkehr Dresden route to Leipzig Hbf with DR Baureihe 104-106 Goldbroiler V60 DR V100 110-112 inside Rbf Leipzig Engelsdorf & Rbf Dresden Friedrichstadt. The mainline services will be carried out by the following locomotives electric 211 242 243 250 (DR Red counts towards Bremen Groningen Blue version Red RSN 155) Diesel 132 (keep in mind DR Dark Red colours count towards the RSN mileage runs) 120 M62 Taigatrommel and 119 Karpatenschrek. Steam 18 201 65.10 52.80. Of those locomotives you get extra services on Niddertalbahn using the 52.80 Rekolok since the end station Glauburg-Stockheim is equipped with a Turntable

Do you mean something like a Deutsche Reichsbahn Rekowagen or DR UIC Y-Wagen? If you put them onto existing routes which are set in West Germany for the most part except for the following RT DCZ DRA which are DR GDR routes. You are going to be subjected to 120 kmh 75 mph speed limits on West German routes because most of them were built to handle 130-160 kmh except for Schnellfahrstrecke Hannover Würzburg 200-280 kmh max speed

Oh, come on, the m-Wagen weren't bad, even in 2/C! Beat the heck out of Silberlinge, for darn sure.
Actually the old Umbaue were pretty comfy; probably the best 2/C ride on DB.

And driverwoods#1787 probably meant these dostos which were build for the Deutsche Reichsbahn under the DDR

The DR had a lot of dosto types, some as a fixed consist (some with cabcar, some without) and towards the end, they also had the single car DR dostos (the ones with the flat angle on the upper floor) which can somewhat be seen in the background of the green dostos (it’s the orange-y one)

That's what the game needs instead of getting the Doppelstockwagen 767.2 766.2 780 785 resused over and over again. Were these train compatible with DR Baureihe 243 or not? Remember DR Baureihe 243 in game runs with 767.2 766.2 780 785 Doppelstockwagen.

I would like DTG to do the version of this train the gets it's power from pantos on the cab car itself and doesn't need a loco.

I think the Br 143 can run with nearly every German regional passenger car (except the Karlsuher Kopf and others), although DR dostos could be added to the game already, because the S-Bahn Dresden uses them sometimes when there’s extra demand

...quickly put together something suitable for this thread. It would be really great to see a "Trabi" in TSW in the future. You could also let him drive around in another early 90's route, like NID. So relatives from the East would visit the West! ;)

I'm with you on that one and speaking of a GDR route that is close to the Niddertalbahn Bad Vilbel Glauburg-Stockheim perhaps a 1990s Bebra Gerstungen Eisenach Erfurt route. Because Niddertalbahn Deutsche Bundesbahn Bahndirektion Frankfurt can give it's DB Baureihe 628 365 to the Hauptstrecke Bebra Gerstungen Eisenach Erfurt route while that gives DR Baureihe 104-106 Goldbroiler V60 and Schienenbus Baureihe 171/172 to Niddertalbahn.

Can´t believe you guys are talking about GDR and Deutsche Reichsbahn without mentioning the beauty below? That I´d like to see in TSW. And with her sound second only to "Ludmilla".

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DR_Class_V_180

    upload_2023-5-8_15-39-18.png

Sadly, no GDR route will be ever seen in TSW anyway, the complete rolling stock would have to be developed from scratch. For a handful of Reichsbahn nostalgists? I don´t think so.

Bring it in and how about DR Baureihe 119 U-Boot which was also nicknamed Karpatenschrek. The game does have Deutsche Reichsbahn locomotives these are DR Baureihe 110-112 V100 Ost DR Baureihe 132 Ludmilla & DR Baureihe 212 243 250. Matches backdated Rapid Transit Hauptstrecke Dessau Bitterfeld Leipzig Nahverkehr Dresden & Tharandter Rampe Dresden Tharandt Hetzdorfer Viadukt Karl Marx Stadt (Chemnitz). These are the only GDR Deutsche Reichsbahn routes in game with the Deutsche Reichsbahn Hl signals.

I think to get somewhat near a route set in the GDR, a expansion pack with older East German rolling stock. I think something like a Ludmilla or a V180 with some Reko wagen or UIC-Y-wagen, and maybe another loco for Dresden-Chemnitz.

That would give us some rolling stock, which only requires a route to be built.

Maybe there’s also the chance to just rebuild the Br 143, Br 155 and Br 204 to their DR versions, for which we then would only need coaches

You´d also have to model the omnipresent BR211/242 "Holzroller" since they were everywhere until the end. But again: Just for a few DR nostalgics like us? I don´t think so, at least not for TSW.

Here are some pictures of the locomotives I just mentioned in their original version:

Br 204 (yes, I know it’s a 202, but it looks nearly identical to the 204)
Br 155 (back then it was designated br 250)
Br 143 (back then br 243)

There I fear you are right; if DTG continue with their move into vintage German, they have to be aware that for those Americans and Brits who have nostalgic memories of pre-unification rail what they experienced was West Germany and DBB. That also applies to the majority of Germans, since the Wests' population was always larger (and wealthier) than the East.

And as long as there isn’t a route set in the GDR, we can always repaint our Br 143 with dostos and run them along Dresden-Chemnitz or Dresden-Riese OR Rapid transit

I, for example, made a livery for the DRA dostos which resembles the „Senftöpfe“, which is always fun to drive with an DR Br 143

But you can always ignore it ;)

Just like the wrong dostos for Hamburg-Lübeck

Joking aside, some proper DR dostos would be nice, and with the S-Bahn Dresden on DRA, we would even have a route for them

I also Uploaded them to creators club last year, you can download them if you want, I even used the original colours.

But they do look too modern, even the last Dosto Cabcar for the DR looked way older.

But I suppose new dostos are probably going to take some time (I guess we will have a new type by TSW 4 :()

Thanks btw, and I would have made them dirty, but due to my skills in weathering being not existing, I didn’t dare to do it

We are getting the Ludmilla in Deutsche Bahn Verkehrsrot for Ruhr Sieg Nord. Back in 2021-2022 I've suggested that locomotive in DR Dark Red Colours with GDR era rolling stock and freight cars. If you go on the 1970s-1990 Hauptstrecke Braunschweig Helmstedt Marienborn Magdeburg Potsdam Griebnitzsee British Sector Berlin Wannsee route. Ludmilla DR Baureihe 132 does run American Duty trains West Berlin Zoologischer Bahnhof to Bremerhaven Bremen /Frankfurt am Main Hbf which are DB Baureihe 110.3 followed by British military Berliner train DB baureihe 139/140 at Helmstedt for Berlin.

I heard something about it not coming until next year (although I hope the information is wrong). But the DR red Ludmilla probably needs to be done by the community via creators club. But maybe there will be a route set in the GDR, the years is still long and we don’t know anything about the summer releases yet :)
