Hi all, here with another thread post wondering about the possibility of swapping out route signals for better ones. This inquiry relates to AP signals. I noticed on ATS that there is for example a patch to replace the Edinburgh-Glasgow signals with AP ones and that works fine for me but they haven't really elaborated on how they did this; so does anyone have any idea on how it may be possible to do this? I am looking into swapping the Settle to Carlisle default signals with AP ones and seeing if it functions correctly and I would like to know how I may go about doing this. We are able to do things like swap weather, vegetation and track through the files so I hope it is a similar case for signals. Thanks in advance for any help or info!
To do it *properly* you'd edit the route's Tracks.bin file to point to AP signals, but I believe AP have used the system of replacing .bin files for signals with ones pointing to those that have been enhanced
Alright thanks; what do you reckon of the two is the best method for swapping the signals? For the Settle to Carlisle situation the latter may be quite tedious as the Settle to Carlisle signals themselves are mostly the same to other UK routes I believe but have different file names with "SC_" prefixes so I would have to rename every signal file. Would I have to do the same for editing the Tracks.bin file?
Editing Tracks.bin would probably be more tedious then renaming files--AP wouldn't have chosen the hard way!
Did you have any luck with this? I want to swap the signals of the West Highland merged route but cant find any resource on how to do it.
Unfortunately not; messed around with an older simpler route (Glasgow Airport Rail Link) and couldn’t get it to work so I haven’t gotten anywhere with this.
There has to be a way, its a great pack, just a shame it's so hard to get into other routes. I actually got it to work on the route I wanted by reinstalling the AP pack. The West Highland merge route lists suburban Glasgow as a dependency so that's why it's worked I think.
Blazin/jp....how much do you know and understand about how the various files in TSC work and tie together?
Changing signals should be done in the editor, by replacing each one with an appropriate signal that features the right properties (number of heads and links). Experience is required, especially when changing assets on .bin level only. You must know the properties of each asset. If you find the 1:1 equivalents you can update all by editing tracks.bin and search/replace the paths. Best to make a data sheet with original asset and corresponding replacement. Then check if the scripts are acting properly.
now begs the question.... Blazin/jp....how much do you know and understand about using the game's route editor?
It's a heck of a lot easier than mucking about with xml, in my experience at least. You just plunk stuff down and find out what works and what doesn't.
Admittedly; not much compared to others such as yourself and Spikee. My experience and understanding goes as far as basic file swapping and .bin / .xml editing gradually understood over the past year or so and I've been trying to get my understanding better over these past few months with lots of trial and error operations. My most recent new experience was successfully transferring a scenario from a discontinued route to the newer version of said route which successfully worked.
I have swapped some signals in West Highalnd merged route, seems to have been successful. Files I have occasionally swapped sounds on rolling stock but nothing more technical than that.
