Train Sim World: Festival of Remasters
This month, we're glad to finally release the long-awaited Great Western Express Remastered, but it's not the only route that's seeing some love - we're excited to also announce that across the next month, you'll be able to enjoy new remasters for Köln-Aachen and East Coastway, ensuring that these older add-ons get the latest lighting features, environment improvements and updated timetables to give a whole new breathe of life into the routes!

We've had some fantastic feedback on our previous Remaster to the West Somerset Railway route, and we can't wait to share more with you - with all updates completely free of charge for existing owners of the content.

Let's take a look at what's coming up!

Great Western Express Remastered - Releasing This Friday!
Here we go - the date is booked, it's almost time to get your hands on the Great Western Express Remaster, arriving just in time for Festival of Rail, and on all platforms this Friday 6th February, with an update at 10:00am UTC.

Back in December, we shared a first showcase of the remastered features, which you can watch again below, and highlighting the huge overhaul the route will recieve to the timetables, environment, loco features and much much more.

Here's what you can expect to land with the upgrade:

    New Timetables
    • New 2017 Timetable (4,674 services & 1,335 playable). Layers up to 23 UK Add-ons to cerate the second-largest Uk timetable in TSW.
    • Full London Underground Timetable. All Circle and Hammersmith & City line services playable using a Class 484.
    • Full Heathrow Connect Timetable using a Class 350 in a Heathrow Connect inspired livery to represent the Class 360
    [IMG]

    Remastered Updates
    • Full lighting overhaul
    • Route scenery and texture overhaul
    • 2 new stations with full London Underground branding; Royal Oak Station and Westbourne Park.
    • New London Underground platforms at Ealing Broadway
    • Massive audio upgrade, including brand-new rail singing sounds
    • All GWE and Diesel Legends stock upgraded (New wheel blur, guard mode, suspension, reworked lighting/weather vfx).

Once the GWE Remaster goes live, we'll be opening a new thread in our Player Feedback Forums to gather your thoughts and opinions, and help us support the release as best as possible.

Preview Great Western Express - Remastered live tonight!
As a special treat, we're also going live this evening to give you all a showcase of what's to come in the Great Western Express Remaster!

Join Executive Producter of Trains, Matt Peddlesden, for a livestream on our TSW channels this evening, Tuesday February 3rd 2026, starting at 19:00 UTC.

Announcing Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen Remastered - Coming Soon!
Hot off the heels of the GWE Remaster is a German classic - Köln-Aachen Remastered, coming soon to Train Sim World 6, with great support from the FolezzWorld development team!

These changes will perfectly compliment the Köln-Aachen Timetable Update we shared back in June last year, which was our first phase of updates to the route, and took the service count total from 552 services to over 4000 (with all relevant content installed).

We're excited to share that many further updates are coming as part of the second phase for this remaster, and together with these new route improvements, we're hoping you can all experience a familiar journey with a whole new feel!

Here's a summary of the new features you can expect:

    Köln-Aachen Remastered
    • Implemented TOD4 Lighting to the route and stations

    • New Landscape Ballast Material
    • New grass and vegetation textures

As a reminder, similar to our other Remasters, this is a completely free update to owners of the Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen route add-on in Train Sim World 6.

We'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts on the new changes, and once the SKA Remaster goes live, we'll be opening another thread in our Player Feedback Forums to hear what you have to say.

East Coastway Remastered - Coming Soon!
Finally, completing our trifecta of remasters, we're giving some love to another beloved UK add-on - East Coastway Remastered will also be headed your way shortly!

This remaster comes courtesy of Liam from Grump Dog Games, and the Rivet Games team, and will help uplift the route to the latest TSW6 standards, including TOD4, passenger announcements and train faults, as well as also helping support the upcoming Class 171 & 377/3 pack to bolster the timetable with the 171, both developed from the Rivet Games team.

To be clear, whilst the remaster will aim to support the Class 171 & 377/3 pack, it will still standalone as it's own free-of-charge upgrade to existing owners, and provide a significant overhaul to the route add-on on it's own for everyone to enjoy.

Let's take a look at what changes you can expect:
    East Coastway Remastered
    • Route-wide scenery and texture updates

Just amazing. Though what about the 313 with broken DSD, and the good old highly requested BML remaster?

Could be a new train simulator distinct from TSW, to be fair, although I do doubt it.

I think they should bring most of the older routes to a newer standard and keep train SIM world 6 for a few more years due to the cost of dlc and give developers more time to fix problems with there dlcs and bug fixes.

ECW remaster is certainly a welcome surprise.

Funnily enough, I'd just completed a freight run the other day on the route. First time I'd touched it in a while.

Right, presumably a new train sim in a new engine could have a new title. Not saying it's likely but curious why they'd kick off festival of rail with a non-train game.

Could be a standalone Thomas game maybe?

    All good stuff.

I’m assuming the new game coming is on top of Metro Rails..???

Perhaps it will be a transport strategy or city building game (given Cities Skyline 2 still sucks).
Maybe a steam train spin off or even their own tram/transit game distinct from TSW.
Or they are reviving Flight Sim World.

Is there any chance there's going to be a steam sale this year? Judging by it's absence from the article I'm leaning towards a no which would be shame.

On a more positive note the remasters are definitely welcomes surprises. It'll be nice to finally see Brighton fully populated with ai traffic for sure. Here's hoping the roadmap reveals are equally great...

Pantograph faults on the 377/4 you say? Hmmm. Might want to check that. I know attention to detail isn’t that important but there’s a couple of good reasons why that would be rather problematic!

The East Coastway was a very nice and unexpected surprise! But VERY welcome... One thing I have noticed though, is that the 377/4 in the screen shot seems to be using the ancient Electrostar with the wrong destination board fonts and display. The correct one should be the 377/4 from London to Brighton. Just a small bit of feedback from what I can see in the pictures!

But overall a very nice surprise for a Tuesday afternoon! Looking forward to the British content.

A great amount of upgrades far beyond what I thought we'd ever get for East Coastway... Really nice scenery and thorough upgrades indeed. It looks amazing.

Couple probably obvious questions just to have it spelled out clearly:

    1) Are these remasters write-over replacements for the originals? Asking in case any early bugs might make keeping the originals desirable.

    2) Are these remasters TSW6+ only, meaning TSW5 and earlier will keep the originals?

Could be a UE5 version of a train sim. Running Hmmsim (UE5) on my aging PC, I'm getting excellent performance (constant 60fps) with a lot of the nice UE5 effects, with an insane amount of AI. I've heard a lot about naff perfomance of Ue5 games, but I'm not seeing it in this sim (also Asetto corsa rally). Probably down the talented devs though.

If previous experience is anything to go by, they'll overwrite on TSW6 leaving the previous versions on TSW5 and earlier.

very unexpected announcements but i’m absolutely blown away, i’ve not played east coastway for years based on how bad it looks compared to modern routes but i’ll be a regular on the remastered version without doubt. surely a bml remaster can’t be far off, there’s no excuses now. also good to have yet another xbox sale, i'm hoping we haven’t got loads recently just to not get another one until november

Steam changed the dates of their sales. They won't host another big sale until 19 March 2026, so just a heads up. They used to do the Spring Sale in February, so that's what's going on.

(yes, it does hurt to write the date that way)

That’s six weeks tomorrow, not long to wait. Thank you Candace.

How much of the Underground will be playable on the GWE remaster? Curious as there's not that much that runs alongside the mainline.

It will be interesting to see what the new game is, it would be strange to launch 'Festival of Rail' without something rail related, so where does it that leave us?

It seems a bit quick to annouce the replacement for TSW when Metro Rivals isn't even out yet, so I'm guessing either a standalone Thomas game, or I would love a train themed management game.

The Transport Strategy I feel would just be bodied by the impending release of Transport Fever 3. Urban Games have serious credibility in that department and TPF3 is looking the real deal.

A steam spin-off would be strange, as surely if they can figure it out for that they'd be as well off porting it to TSW.

A tram/urban transit game, however, could be interesting. Perhaps their collaboration with [I've forgotten their name] on CTS:Tram was Dovetail's effort to get into those types of games.

Sodor map wouldn't be a bad thing. My only worry is that it ends up full-TSW Tycoon and sacrifices any suggestion of difficulty for the sake of being a kids game

I could be wrong but I think it’s a bit early for that. I think DTG are cutting their teeth on that Metro Rivals thing before TSW or whatever the next iteration is called moves completely over to UE5.

Well at least you spelled it out. If you'd written 19/3/2026 it would have really confused me. :)

Question and Request regarding the Cologne-Aachen Upgrade. Does the improved Timetable we received last Year still use the Main-Spessart Dostos? If so, would it be possible to replace them with the Dostos from one of the Frankfurt Routes? Because these simply look better in Tod4.

to be fair the date looks perfectly normal. The US way of MM/DD/YYYY is actually the British way it used to be written. The British changed it to DD/MM/YYYY to fall in line with the European way of writing the date.

Looking forward to the ECW remaster. I’m hoping that the sounds and PIS size has changed to be like the BML ones for the 377.

I'm okay as long as the date itself is >12. Otherwise it gets confusing.

And they couldn't change it back after Brexit?
