https://www.justtrains.net/in-development/transport-for-wales-br-class-142-pacer-dmu looks like JT could be giving us the BR Class 142 in unbranded Arriva Trains Livery for the new Cardiff City Line route.. I hope this is true but today is April 1st
I'm sure this will be great being a piece of JT content. But the current state of Cardiff is not claiming my money. It needs some serious work done to it if they're sticking with the £30 price tag.
This was a pleasant surprise to see (never thought I'd say that about pacers)! I have a lot of nostalgia for these trains, and we know that JT can be trusted to make an excellent product so this will likely be a day one purchase for me.
For the TFW/ATW routes I agree, but a modern spec 142 is more universal. Hopefully we get a couple more liveries for it at some point.
Maybe there will be a bundle when this comes out or some time after. After experiencing the Dutch route I just cannot bring myself to pay £30 for this tiny, poor quality route. Being optimistic, I do wonder if JT are setting things up for their own possible future South Wales route? Though unlike the Class 143’s which did stray off to Maesteg or even further, the 142’s were relatively captive to the Valley Lines as not many of the main line Cardiff crews signed them. On more than one occasion if there had been perturbation on the Valley network, a Coryton to Maesteg service turned up at Central with a 142 instead of a 143, requiring a hasty set swap with the 143 coming in behind (give thanks for permissive working!) on a Penarth or Barry service.
I wouldn't be surprised if they added a Northern branding to the updated Pacer. Could sell this along with a new timetable for Glossop to fill out the Picadilly platforms. (Perhaps even by arrangement with DTG, have a Northern 150 too ). Might suit the newly teased Crewe route if the latter heads North.
Significant model changes would still be needed, and 142s never carried the current Northern livery or branding.
I wish they were making unbranded arivva 150s and 153 because in 2019 they didn't have the transport for wales livery.
one of these pacer liveries still has the TfW banner on the side so it isn’t even just an unbranded ATW livery.
