Couldn't find the thread for Just trains TFW class 142 so here it is with some new and old photos. Old photos New photos (as of November roadmap)
I was pretty excited for this for the ATW 153 & 150, but upon reading the article it seems they wont be selectable in place of TFW variants on other routes. Shame really as I won’t be getting £13 of value out of this pack on the Cardiff route. It’s also yet another pack where the train isn’t player selectable as a substitute in other reasonable routes, which really detracts from the value of these packs.
Very much looking forward to this. It will be interesting having two different timetables and two different service patterns.
I was just about to say the same thing. Most of the time on CCN you are trundling along at no more than 30 MPH and Queen Street through to Grangetown is no more than 20 MPH. I know this isn’t JT’s route to extend or remaster but this really should have gone hand in hand with a push by DTG to extend the route to Barry Island, Caerphilly and Pontypridd at the least I addition to tidying up some of the more glaring visual issues.
Which really compounds the bizarreness of locking the new liveries to this route. When you look at £40ish for the whole package, the pricing is abit obscene. The route itself isn’t JT’s issue, but the value of their pack is & locking that value into a route that already suffers on that front is just daft.
Maybe I’m blind but there’s also no mention of this version of the 142 coming with train faults, not even as a post release patch (not that I even use the feature anyway).
A very rare day one purchase for me. With only little time to play, I like the Cardiff route with it's short runs. This timetable looks more interesting than the current one, so I'll be picking it up.
Looks solid, but £12 is a bit too steep, and there's no guarantee that it'll run on gen 9 without fudged textures.
Think £12 for the “new” Pacer, new 150/153 liveries and an extensive new timetable is decent value relative to other gameplay/loco packs of this nature we’ve had just lately.
The pack itself looks great to me. But the CCN route just isn't worth the £30 tag to me. They haven't fixed any of the scenery issues it feels a bit too much of a fire and forget route unfortunately. Because I did really want to love CCN the 153 is brilliant.
I don’t want to come across as negative and I’m sure the standard of this will be excellent - as with all other JT products. But I just feel it’s a lot of effort for another pacer. Why not invest the time into a class 50, 56 or even a Deltic and charge £20-£25, because I for one would happily pay it. Oh and please don’t tell me there isn’t an ‘accurate route/timetable’ to run them on as it can easily be a separate dlc.
It should really have been an early access with more to be added at a later stage. Not only that, this is going up against Nordic Horizons for ETS2 which (finally) comes out next week so I think I know where I'll be spending most of my gaming time.
The unfortunate from the article is the units (150/ 153 / Pacer) can’t be used outside the route in these updated liveries? Have I interpreted that right?
My thoughts on this have always been that if a suitable route doesn't exist, a loco could be released as part of a railtour pack, much like Flying Scotsman was. Throw in some (actually good) dual braked MK1s to run the services with, and you can release pretty much anything and have it ready there also for when a route does release where it can be used.
So we’re basically just paying for a reskinned pacer on the Cardiff network? The DTG dlc machine continues to spurt out dlc at an alarming rate.
More than a re-skin and a new timetable set in 2019, that is what I will be paying for. Presumably you won't be.
I bought CCN just to compliment layers on other routes... The route itself is very mediocre at best in terms of scenery detail and the timetable. Even more bizarrely it doesn't even feel like a 'Network' route as it doesn't have any real logical start and end points for the majority of services. It just feels like a demo game that you used to get with PlayStation magazine for the PS1... However I have to say I will be picking up the modern Pacer and the timetable as I believe I might be able to get something out of it if I'm in the mood for 'Branchline' driving. I think the pack itself looks pretty good and will come with the accompanying JT quality and the modern Pacer with all the relevant bells and trimmings. Also, it may actually make the small diorama that is CCN, actually feel like it has some heart and soul in it. The fact that the ATW coloured rolling stock doesn't layer on other routes along with the official TfW livery Sprinters doesn't bother me either. It's not the end of the world. I'd much prefer the uniform current operator be used instead of a mixed bag of liveries, one of which doesn't even exist anymore... The ATW livery has its time and place specifically in the timetable in which it is designed for.
I have to admit that I got it wrong. I've compare that in TSC players paid around 10 dollars for scenario packs that contained 7/10 scenarios. I figured players would pay for new timetables with new livery locos........... I guess I was wrong. But might just be here in the forums. outside here it might sell
I've been trying to weigh up whether i'm interested in this or not and although I like packs that breathe new life into existing UK routes, the difficulty for me is that the route itself is just not long enough, a Network where the Network just not feel really represented, so I think this will be a leave for me, maybe one to pick up in a sale some time - I think regardless of the quality of the timetable and the work that Just Trains have put in (which will undoubtably be of good quality), it's the route itself which is just simply underwhelming and that can't be simply transformed by a pack such as this.
JT need to make some revenue out of the pack; once Valve and DtG take their cut there’s not much left unfortunately.
The disappointment is the route is far to short you will hardly be able to give the pacer a good run we need a longer welsh route like cambrian coastline or something
Yes just one full run (Rhymney to Barry Island) and another pass at the quality issues would have made this an iconic UK route. It's a shame that JT will probably get hammered for sales due to the lack of DTG's original vision and ambition over the concept and production of Cardiff Network. Though on the other hand they knew what it was and the views of many of us about the route before embarking on the enterprise. So I don't feel that sorry for them if it flops. Maybe they (JT) should adopt the route and extend it themselves...
In favour of a modern version of 142 for definite. But I really don't like the Cardiff route. If only it had been a Northern franchise 142.
I agree with the above posts in expecting it to be more, considering they charged £20 for the 86 which doesn't even add more services because they gave them all to the 87 anyway...
Well it had to come with a TT or there’d be nothing to do would there lol. Not until a sale thank you very much.
That's a fair point actually. I often turn to CCN when I just have 20 mins or so to play. Probably like it more than most, but it is another route that the console does not really enjoy. Textures not too bad, but a lot of stuttering and prone to a crash around Cardiff Central.
well, same trains in different liveries exist in real life so should they not be made at all? Also making this as a separate dlc pack means if a future route is made that uses the train, you don't have to buy a more expensive route. Making a brand new locomotive requires much more dev time and staff and is much more expensive to make. Sometimes they don't have all the time in the world and money to create only brand new content all the time.
"Decent value compared to other gameplay packs" really only matters if you think those packs were actually decently priced to begin with. Do they? There's never really much buzz or chatter about them, they also don't get much in terms of reviews, which kind of hints toward not a lot buying them. Also, much of train sim ain't even making a living on it, HIS could very well just be a retired old man spending his free time making scenarios for fun, not needing to worry about how well they sell for all I know. I'll remind everyone the TSG has made it clear that if they purely had to survive off of revenue from this game they'd be done for.
I just hope just trains are not going to start getting greedy with TSW users in sense that we know how good their first and 2nd release was but now other 3rd party developers are appearing JT I feel are starting to give less for the same costs as what we paid for more content before. If so I will be starting to get selective about what I buy
