This caught my eye as it’s currently circulating on the TSC loading screens. Looks a bit of a beast but mixed reviews on Steam. What’s the general consensus in terms of quality on a scale between TSW steam bad and Bossman/Victory superb? In particular sound and performance physics.

    Any answers appreciated.

I can't comment on TSW, but it's one of JT's advanced range and comparable with Bossman/Victory Works. The only thing I don't like about it is the slightly unnatural (to my eyes) placing of the footplate crew, though you can't really see it in the screenshot.

It does have some problems I find, and I think it's only published by JT and not made by them, but I think it's better to get it off the JT website. Granted they have fewer sales and it isn't as convenient but usually third party things are better bought directly from the developers who made them as it will be the most up to date version and may have some different features - Virtual Railroads cuts out features from Steam releases for example as DTG's pricing rules mean they'd be losing money if they have the full experience.

Appreciate the info guys. Pencilled it in for the next Steam sale. I hear what you say about buying direct from JT, but having as much as possible under the Steam/DTG umbrella makes it easier should I decide to create a scenario or even a route that uses it and put on the Workshop for distribution.

Footplate crew can be easily moved by modifying the main engine blueprint. ;)

Watched a couple of YT vids and the sounds do seem nice, nailed it far better than the rather pitiful FS in TSW4. Well we have two Steam sales incoming over the next few weeks so definitely at the top of my wish list.

They will likely be child objects and they should (if I remember correctly) be in the main BIN file for the loco. Note you may need to change it manually for each variant. Anyway, you'll need to look for the driver and fireman in the file and you will be able to move them in relation to the loco's centre point. I'd recommend using TS Tools as this can edit BIN files directly. In TS, changes to child objects can be applied on a scenario restart, so if you create a free roam scenario with every variant you can restart every time a change is made to see if it works. Decimals can be used. Make sure that you back up any changed BIN files as a file verification on Steam will revert all of your changes - this does not occur on the version bought from Just Trains.

Just Trains later steam locomotives are all excellent, their visuals tend to be a bit drab but the physics are great, in regards to the v2 it also came with an excellent set of scenarios (at least the version from the JT site did, not sure with the steam release)
