New services and new layers for an old favourite! Köln - Aachen timetable updates are coming soon.
We’ve been talking about the upcoming Köln-Aachen timetable update for a little while now, coming to bolster the total service count with a huge new selection of playable and AI services.

Read more details on the full Koln-Aachen Update article

As a reminder, this will be a free update to owners of the route and Train Sim World 5. Today we wanted to confirm all the Add-ons that will add layers on to the route following the update and the roll out plan for different platforms.

As a note: the timetable update will initially be rolled out to Steam players only, with other platforms receiving the update at a later time.

    The Timetable
    Additional service layers
    [IMG]

With all relevant content installed, the service count will go up considerably from the original 552 services to over 4000 (of which around 600 will be playable)!

Below is the full list of Add-ons that will add playable and AI services to the new timetable:
    • Bremen-Oldenburg
      • DB BR 110 with n-wagen services on certain AI RB48 (Köln) and RE4 (Aachen) services.
    • Dresden-Riesa
      • facilitating Zacns freight services and static stock throughout the route
    • Frankfurt-Fulda
      • for AI ICE-T services
    • Hauptstrecke Hamburg–Lübeck
      • static Roos-t wagons throughout the route
    • Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr
      • for the BR 422 operating S6 services and BR 425 operating RE8, RB26, RB27 (all at Köln) and RB33 (at Aachen)
    • Linke Rheinstrecke
      • for a BR 103 railtour service
    • LGV Méditerranée
      • TGV AI services subsituting for Thalys services between Aachen and Köln
    • Maintalbahn
      • for the DB BR 642 DMU serving all major stations. More details can be found below.
    • Main-Spessart Bahn
      • for the DB BR 146 and additional RE1 services
    • Ruhr-Sieg Nord's DB BR 363
      • Shunting and local services throughout the route and in yards such as Stolberg and Köln Hansaring
    • Salzburg-Rosenheim
      • BR 111 on RE4 services at Aachen Hbf
    • Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel-Würzburg
      • ICE 1 AI services at Köln as well as a few playable services running the full length of the route, plus ICE 3 AI services at Köln. Most freight services also come from this Add-on.
    • Railpool BR 193 Vectron
      • Playable and AI NightJet services
    • FlixTrain BR 193 Vectron
      • FlixTrain AI services at Köln Hbf with a few playable depot moves and two full length runs (one each way).
    • DB BR 101 (original Add-on)
      • IC services as AI at Köln as well as a few playable services running the full length of the route
    • DB BR 218
      • One short freight service that is bound for a diesel-only branch line
    • S-Bahn Köln BR 423
      • The BR 423 from the New Journeys pack runs all S11, S12 and S19 services. These are all in their own layers for this timetable and do not affect the New Journeys timetable.
    Further timetable details
    [IMG]

On the New Journeys timetable, RE8 and RB27 had problems joining the mainline in the southbound direction and always ran late, causing only northbound services to be playable. This timetable has them running on time in both directions.

In this timetable, the original RE1, RE9, S-bahn and ICE services will of course still feature. New AI services will also be seen at various stations such as Aachen Hbf, Düren and of course Köln Hbf which has non-stop activity through the day including RE7 trains.

For players with the Main-Spessart Bahn route Add-on there are additional peak-only RE1 services that run non-stop between Aachen Hbf and Düren only stopping at Stolberg Hbf. RE1 also has two services a day that stop additionally at Eilendorf.

DB BR 642 Services (from Maintalbahn)

The addition of RB20 services will allow players to serve a new station, Eilendorf Bahnhof, which is only serviced by RB20 and some peak RE services. RB20 trains also run between Langerwehe and Düren and as AI at Langerwehe.

    Maintalbahn also adds:
    • RB21 & RB28: AI traffic at Düren
    • RB12, RE22, RB24. RB25: AI only traffic in the Köln area.
    • RB38: Playable services between Köln Hbf and Horrem as well as AI only services at Horrem.
    Freight services
    [IMG]

For the freight fans, the timetable now features a huge new range of services to experience mostly via the Kassel - Wüurzburg route Add-on. Freight trains will need to stop at passing points for highspeed trains or even other freight trains, and whilst most are A-B runs, there are a few shunting services for Stolberg too.

    Platform roll out
The timetable update is scheduled to be rolled out initially to Steam players only, with other platforms receiving the update at a later time. This will come with the next scheduled TSW patch update, alongside a range of other improvements and fixes for various add-ons, ahead of the release of Cargo Line Vol.3: Intermodal on 1st May.

We will provide further details about the new Köln-Aachen timetable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Epic Games players at a later time whilst our teams continue to test these platforms.

If you're a player on PlayStation 4, you may have already gotten a sneak preview of the new timetable, as this was unintentionally included on builds earlier in the month. We've not been able to further test this platform, and we will share more news for our roll out on PS4 alongside all other platforms as soon as we can. In the meantime, if you do give it a try on PS4, please be aware of any issues that you may encounter, and we welcome any thoughts you have in our Köln-Aachen Timetable feedback thread, which we will share early next week.

TSW5: Compatible Schnellfahrstrecke Köln - Aachen
    [IMG]

If you're new to Train Sim World 5, you can still pick up Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Aachen as Compatible content.

This high-speed route between two historic cities in Köln and Aachen features the DB BR 406 ICE 3M and DB BR 422 EMU, with both LZB and PZB operations. Stopping services arrive at intermediate stations such as Düren and Free Roam allows players to operate in and around the complex yard north of Köln, including the turntable.

In reality, freight is a regular feature along the route, as are S-Bahn services and depot movements between yards and stations, making it the ideal route to be updated with these additional timetabled services from the wider Train Sim World collection.

Glad to see the original BR 101 being used for additional layers.

I'm not. I would really hope they would move on from the legacy 101 and use the better one with the proper stock. Really devalues the expensive Expert dlc when you can only use it on a few routes.

Doesn't the expert BR 101 substitute for the original BR 101? That keeps the value of both DLCs.

    PC-only??? Wtf????

DTG doing timed platform exclusives now?

    Further devaluing their console product.

This is 100% a choice DTG made to annoy their players once again- they could have just shut up about it until it was ready to release for all platforms.

    Why do this?

If they're bailing on consoles for TSW6, they should just come clean about it.

So how long are we looking at "at a later date"
This sounds like going back to the old "it will release on PC first then a few months later to console" from a few years ago. Is this what we are due to expect for every release now.
    Sorry not happy.

    Hentis.

Not if it's like any of the other recent timetables. Also even if it would this still has two problems:
    1. you need the legacy 101 to use the Expert 101
    2. the timetables don't include the cabcar and trains unrealistically run in sandwich or without it

Probably because they know it's a blurry mess. But I agree, not good.

Before the memory issues are sorted it probably will be blurry on console anyway and would take the fun out of it. Doesn’t surprise me that it’s PC only for now. My enthusiasm for this (and Frankfurt S-Bahn) has been put on ice until the core is properly fixed.

When the later issue releases for consoles, will this be available for xbox one users as well?

I hope DTG will answer this question please.

I play mostly on Steam so take your elite PC master race bs somewhere else.

I just want DTG to admit they've borked their codebase so badly they can't even figure out, let alone fix, the memory leak issue that's killing the console version of the game right now.

PS5 and Series X have plenty of memory and bandwidth, this is just amateur hour nonsense.

Added to screw ups big and small since AT LEAST the TSW5 launch.

I really don't get people defending this tbh.

Oh dear oh dear…… back to the old ways it seems, not a good look, sounds to me there’s too many problems with it to release at the same time

Sounds like the substitution system could really use an upgrade to offer more flexibility.

Personally I don't want to buy the expert 101 because I'm not going to use all the extra features (and thus not willing to pay for them). I'm very happy with the original 101, so I'd like to keep using that one.

Its a passion project. Nothing DTG can do something about. If Joe thinks it needs time for consoles then its probably better to wait.
Its a miracle that this even comes to Gen 8 looking at the 4000 services.
After all Tsw is a game for PC, downgraded to an additional console version to reach that audience.
To complain about this in this article is nonsense.

Why would DTG use a 3rd party loco than the one they made on one of their routes. They want their 101 to sell more, it is a business.

Since they would probably have to pay TSG to use it.

I was waiting for this update, since it was announced!

But now, being "launched" only for PC, and console players have to wait, it is disappointing.
    I am on PS5.
Despite of that considering is an "individual project" of one DTG member, I can understand and accept some delay for console.

I just wonder if weather will be upgraded too?!
I mean 3D clouds, and other weather effects will be included, as in the lastest routes.

Looking at the picture, shown at the beginning, it seems there will be flying birds too... Note: East Coast West route have them.!
Please notice there is a plane shown at the top left corner. It seems to be a Boeing 747.
DTG will have problems with Airbus, as they are using their planes, since Frankfurt - Fulda route!
    ;)

Steam only after 1.5 years of waiting for a timetable update. It's really sad what this game has turned into. :(

Then why not wait and release it all at once?

If that was the case, nobody would be complaining, and we'd all be talking about all the cool new stuff coming to the route. I honestly stopped reading about the layers because i just couldn't understand the marketing strategy here.

It's a free update- if it was paid, i could sorta see if they were desperate for the revenue. But DTG chose to split the playerbase on this one for.....reasons?

Imo this is giving them advance cover for when the console versions end up not materializing ever.

I will happily admit i'm wrong if/when they finally show.

But, purposely aggravating 2/3 of your playerbase is poor business imo, and hurts the franchise for everyone. Despite the victory laps the console-haters are determined to take.

Yeah, as it is now, it seems to be the usual case of "this will come at a later date" then never actually happening.

May be... - I guess - they are offering this important upgrade ( a free one! do not forget) about route services, due to the complexity, of checking and programming all services.
I believe this will not be easy.
So probably there will be some (several) issues to fix at the beginning. Which is reasonable!.

Then if the one person in charge - please remember this is not a DTG team release!- launch all platforms at the same time, ... they will have to face several issues of different type, and they have to fix them asap, as PS, Xbox and PC will have their own ones.
Which I believe it will be a nightmare!.

I prefer to wait until everything works rights for each platform vs all together causing more problems and issues.

We’ve been waiting for this new timetable for such a long time, it really wouldn’t have been a big problem to work on it for a few more weeks and then release it on all platforms simultaneously. Now they’ve angered a huge portion of the player base for seemingly no reason.

It really does seem like PC is actively being prioritized during QA/beta testing and console players are being made to wait longer as a result. To be clear, this should not be happening for such a big game nowadays. Perhaps it should’ve been communicated differently to avoid the negative reactions… it’s a complex timetable so PC players are doing the “beta testing” so it’s more polished for the console release.

Anyways, I’ll personally be busy enough during May and I hope the update arrives on consoles eventually (and not months later). I think it’s good that they’ve used the normal DB BR 101, by the way. The expert loco is a niche product that is much more expensive, and I assume it takes a lot more work to set these up in the timetable as well (more time to prepare the loco at the beginning of a service etc.). Thus, it really makes sense to use the ordinary 101 – which itself is a very good loco DLC and has an affordable price – and then allow TSG to work on a separate expert timetable in their own time, if they want to do that.

Just a small correction: The AI service in Cologne is an RE12, not an RB12.

Console (and Epic ) players are entitled to an official explanation for this Steam only initial release. It leaves them in limbo, not knowing when they can expect the update.

I think the Expert 101 is a performance killer on consoles and would likely cause issues with the new timetable for now.

I hope we get a ToD 4 update for the route in the process as well. It would be much better for the layers from newer routes. I might be wrong here but it seemed to me that the update of West Somerset Railway to TSW 5 standards for the Thomas DLC was also done quite easily…

Really disappointed that it's only coming for PC for now, but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait when it releases on console. This and GWR are the two upcoming releases I am most looking forward to. Probably the delay is for the best though if DTG are facing blurring issues etc.

A staggered release even for current gen consoles doesn’t bode well, but these are pretty powerful consoles so I feel like this is more of a TSW optimisation problem rather than anything else right?

Dude, stop with the console theories. Epic players, which are PC PLAYERS have to go through this [EDIT - Jan - Language] of a release schedule

As an Xbox player, I don’t mind waiting a little longer to make sure it’s right. It’s a FREE update after all.

This is true. Lots of people have been saying that they should stop releasing things and sort out the texture issues. Maybe that's what they are doing. Especially as, like you say, it's free. So no deadlines in terms of sales etc.

At lest we can try it via using a ps4 versions on ps5 how it looks I've downloaded the ps4 version and just required dlc to play it. It will probably run smoother on ps5 over the actual ps4 version but that will be interesting to see. Yes it's bad that steam users get it only, for once something isn't just pc excessive it's technically steam excessive depending how the ps4 version runs like. Hopefully GWE will not be like this

No need to be patronising like that when without us you wouldn’t be able to play this game

They probably care more about the console delay because consoles make up the majority of the tsw playerbase and therefore the majority of players will be negatively affected

It's coming for some PC players then. 2 console platforms - support for 0 of those. 2 PC platforms - support for 1 of those.

Really it should all release at the same time, though perhaps having it on steam first could be good if DTG act on bug reports.

Its quite simple why a PC before console release is better to releasing it all at once.
Issues with the TT can be reported by PC players so console players will receive a much more optimized TT so they wont need to wait 2 months for patches so it gets fixed. Additionaly the TT could lead to major performance issues which a PC could handle better than a console and so on Joe still has the option to make changes for better performance. If the TT would need to be shortend in AI services so Performance will stay on its level then this decission is also the better way.
Im quite sure this or another good reason is behind this decission.
