I have been thinking of doing the Kassel-Fulda-Frankfurt-Frankfurt Flughafen-Mainz-Koblenz route. This one needs some planning. Has anyone else done this? Do you recommend it? Should I use the Expert 101, the ICE 1 or ICE 3?
Depends on what you want to do, I'd say that the Expert BR 101 would have the most for you to do during your travel. For the ICE 1, it'd be high passenger number travel due to its size, its quite a long train. The ICE 3, depending on which would be the fastest so the thought process would be that I'm proceeding to high speed line afterwards. However, keeping in mind that viaducts will occasionally have speed restrictions when it's windy.
I did it with the Expert 101, Cabcar leading from Koblenz to Frankfurt, 101 from Frankfurt to Kassel, calling at Koblenz, Bingen Hbf, Mainz, Frankfurt Flughafen Fern, Frankfurt Hbf, Hanau, Fulda and Kassel. takes like 3 1/2 to 4 hours, the TSW Veriosn of TSCs Paddington Penzance. If you have the time its a very fun trip and done best in Free roam and route hopping. Works fine with the dispatcher too(got behind a stopping service once, which then vanished under misterious circumstances...... ). And when you arrive in Kassel you change cabs and go back.... lol
