The Línea Mitre is a broad gauge (1676mm / 5' 6") commuter service operating in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It runs from the heart of the city, to the suburbs in the north. Services closer to the city are run with CSR EMUs, terminating in Retiro (1500V = third rail). More distant services utilize Materfer DMUs, meeting the electric services at stations near the end of their lines. Services are operated by the state-owned Trenes Argentinos. This route is a good introductory route for Argentine rail, as it provides a varied experience, and uses stock that can be brought to other lines (Roca & Sarmiento). There are 37 EMU served stations over 53km of track, with services approximately every 15 minutes for the Tigre and J.L. Suárez branches, and every 30 minutes for the Mitre branch. There are two depots servicing the route: one attached to Victoria, one just north of J.L. Suárez. There is also a depot for diesel-hauled Línea San Martín trains at Retiro. Freight services share tracks with the passenger units, with a yard at Retiro. There is a train cemetary at Universidad Nacional de San Martín.
