Probably, in my opinion, one of the coolest commuter rail systems in the world is GO Transit in Toronto. 10-12 Bombardier Bi-Level coaches pulled (or pushed!) by a beautiful MP54AC, MP40PH-3C or if you want to get classic on us, F59PH IVs.
The Lakeshore line consists of two divisions (Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West) with three common possible termini, Oshawa in the east and Aldershot or Hamilton in the west.
    The route has 21 stations.
More recently, GO Transit added a summer weekend extension to Niagara Falls, Canada:
This addition gives 3 more stations with 2 more under construction.

The route is spectacular and takes the user through wonderful lake views and rushes them into the ever expanding city of Toronto.

Developers can start by using these links for inspiration:

Got to say I did quite a bit of research on this route and I would love to see this in Train Sim World.
