I know there is no official way to copy and transfer layers/groups of layers from one livery to the other (other than copying the same livery on same loco/MU and editing it), but can it be done in a more, ehm, technical way?

Here is the thing - I am creating a look-alike of a popular Disney character for a fictional livery, and the thingie is going to have a lot of heavily edited layers, and even now I have clocked a lot of hours on it (and I have yet to complete the face... yesterday I spent like 2hrs working on mouth and teeth lol, and those are relatively simple cartoonish "assets")... by the time it is done, it might have 100 or even more layers combined, not sure, will see when I am done :D

so it is only natural that I dont really feel like doing it all over again from scratch... if I could transfer it to some other as of yet blank livery, it would be awesome... atm I am doing that livery for Class 158 for MML, but I would love it if I could transfer this "asset" to lets say F59PH

by technical way I mean if liveries/layers are stored in some kind of files that can be mined for this... of course I mean legal ways/means, not literal hacking... if there isnt any, then well, I guess I will finish this livery and then... wait for a way to show up in some official update :D

I don’t have a lot of time but this is an issue I have faced many times before and is a strong advocate for having a save file.
Again I use a title called The Crew Motorfest. I can group say 10 parts and then group again adding to say 50 decal group.
I can also change multiple colour groups at once too.

Now I am sure you have seen how complicated my work is always hitting a 1000 layers.
This causes other system issues that I won’t go into.

The main subject is to be able to save work so it can be used on all units. We need a save feature that allows players to do this.
We could do with individual grouping. As my groups can run in to say 400 to 500 mark,
It’s why I work out a scale etc by using balance line to get all the basic dimension right. Because if not I’d have to do a move. Means massive grouping. Other issues then such as a bug decal that won’t allow you to group.

I have learned many things over the years spent on LC, and has definitely made my life easier in LD. But to keep making a BR Lion and Wheel Emblem is just too much for anyone.

    You’ll get there like this little fellow did:) IMG_9186.jpeg IMG_9187.jpeg IMG_9202.jpeg IMG_9211.jpeg IMG_9195.jpeg

It’s fun remember, the challenge of it all and then the rewards at the end. It’s then when you look back and laugh.
Laugh at the moment you was in tears because it was so hard. But you overcome.

I just found the harder you work the better the self gratification. A confidence boost.

Keep at it even tho now it seems hard, you won’t feel that way when you there.

    Lee✌

I am not shying away from hard work, I just hate working hard for no reason, aka tossing efficiency out of the window... I mean, I dont mind doing the sunflower all over again, cos it is fairly regular and streamlined thing... but with this one there is simply too many layers to copy and do over again... so yeah, as I said in my thread about things I would suggest they do for the Livery designer, that save feature is among the most important ones, I would say

it would also allow you to quickly build a sort of unified fleet... like lets say you wanted to transform most of UK EMUs into a set of liveries that shares a theme, a logo and such... this feature would allow you to save so much time :)

Hey hey I get that and not implying that you’re lazy. When I say hard work is hard work to over the come some challenges we often face.
We have to work hard to get a livery done under those conditions.

It shouldn’t be this hard tho, and why I support your opinions.

The reason being the very same reason you want to have a save logo feature.
For mass adoption across the fleet. It’s called standardisation. Cost, time.
If like me you have always wanted your own fleet then yes life would be so much easier.
    Saving Costs and Time.

The word streamline. Or Production line of Units/ livery’s done using standard or set decal’s saved.
Make once for 6 hours save and it will be there when demand increases.

    Supply and Demand.

So yes it’s hard work now being fully down to us, we have to work hard to overcome the now.
All because of using 1980s technology at DTG. If TSW is to increase users number or sales then this game needs to move with the times.
TSC for the enthusiast and TSW5 for the more younger generations just wanting to enjoy trains and making liveries.
A subject I’ve been over so many times before.

Especially with GTA 6 officially confirmed on PS.
You watch DTG sales drop. Kids don’t want to sit there for 8 hours like me on a livery.
They want fun and joy, not stress and drama in a game.

I bit pointless on having Thomas the Tank if kids can’t have fun or understand livery editor.
Therefore it must be easer or more simplified. Me personally I feel it’s better that TSW2 by miles.
I must love it as I endlessly enjoy making liveries.

If DTG added a few more features then I’d love it even more. Other may do to if they feel like shutting off.

I point I tried to agree on with another forum member.

This is. What you’re doing right now could be absolutely pointless.
The issues with the system lag when loading in livery Ai. Those with high detailed work will suffer.
Example I work hard to make liveries look realistic. But how can my livery be realistic if not loading in on time hence we don’t see and breaks the immersion of it all.

If I’m at 125 and the other train coming the other way this too at 125mph, that’s a combined speed of 250mph.
My work with 9000 decals or more on a 801 made to be realistic, ends up being the opposite.

It’s slows the systems down, lag in frame rates, blurring or missing coaches.
I work hard and that’s the end result.

Meaning I ask myself why put so much effort in to highly detailed work if the end users have issues as stated.

It’s Pointless. So Why use livery editor or even use the game if it’s all pointless?.

it would be nice to be able to create a kind of unified fleet... like that F125 I did, and transfer some assets to MP36 and F59PH, set the logos to different spots, maybe do different stripes and such... it is already nice to play a route where also AI uses my liveries :) ... when I do that 158 livery, I will already have two trains for the same route, so it should be interesting to watch :) ... dunno how long it will take cos I also play tons of other games, drive TSW, watch NBA and other stuff :D

but ever since I discovered some major advantages of using Xbox controller in the Livery designer, some stuff has progressed much quicker (tho zoom issues and sometimes layer selection are a pain on it too lol)... so will see :)

WCML has quite a variety of stuff, so one day when I get better and more effective at creating liveries, I might do 390, 350 and 710 for it :) what kinda deters me from doing a 710 livery is the fact it has like 2 or 3 separate variants

    Mornings.

Yes I see what you mean. To have a save function will give you more time to have fun on track.
A problem at the moment for me if attempting Monthly Challenges.
So again why I feel we need a cost saving function in LD so we can play or drive the Train.

Ya know see your liveries on Track. Or more time to play other games or what the NBA. Touch down, lol.
Should know better of all the years playing games. John Madden NFL on Sega Master system in early 90s.
I even owned Amiga CD32. 32Bit was all the rage mate back then. So I don’t play a lot of games maybe the odd different titles.

For Livery editor I found the Camara locks, So if you start a new livery or change any other title then it will lock the camera function.
So to fix and free up the camera, come out of LD then head to track, so free roam or something. Do that for a few secs before leaving track.
Head back to the new livery you wish to work on and the camera will be free.

Hopefully this will help with improving your work such as 390s or 710s you mentioned.
If you ever need any help let me I will always do my best to assist.

    Rigsby.

This is something that I have questioned a number of times, but with no responses. It can be done, DTG do it! As Lee mentioned earlier, there is only so many times you can repeat a multilevelled logo such as the BR crests. Up to now I have had to replicate these about 7 times each! At the moment I'm working on the Eastfield Scottie Dog, and need to make it 4 times. Believe me, once is quite enough.

I'm sure there is a workable answer, come on DTG, make us happy, it is a game changer!

    Hey there we meet again.

    Hope you are well? :)

If I may then knowing what you do I feel you a prime example of why we need a logo or what designs we make to a save function.
We both see the added benefits of this so why not.

I will support you in possibly getting our voices heard in the right way.

You see if DTG is to enter or bring in new customers or even appeal a younger audience then what young child will sit there for hours repeating work. Not in today’s environment or the console games for the younger gen.
To play a game should be about relaxing, a past time, something of leisure. Not one where we feel rushed or pressured to play the game.

For Example, I make livery’s, time. I enjoy being here, time. I’d like to enjoy the products I own but never touch, time.
I’d like to drive trains, time. I’d like to complete scenario's, time. Want to do the monthly challenges, time.

The work Time is used so much yet this game ain’t a five minute game, time is short for some.
So where do users get any time to properly enjoy the game and relax?.
Add the pressure of constant new products and you can how people will switch off.

A word I use after a subject Hentis Raised. Switching off. He’s words not mine, so you can see people are.
To put into context this was in regards to buying a new reskin product and the short comings of decals or its effects on how the system runs.

So to get something of my chest I see this and why your voice is not heard.

We have a 1000 decals. I use them all. But why if what I do has effects on the end users system.
(Missing cars as they pass at speeds).
    Not good.

Then why we have no save feature. Well if we had that then we can make more progress more liveries.
I seen this conflict with Alexengame. He made many good work for the US Heritage SD70 etc.
But what did DTG release, a same theme set. A conflict of interest.
Why well who’s is going to pay for something we can get for free.

So how could a company put users of using work by creators. Make them blurry and make them slow the game down.
Then a user may feel inclined to buy a product from DTG. Again the points raised with Hentis.
As look at the work I am doing class 43s. A conflict of interest.

If we had smoother frame rates when creators work loads in and we had more ways to make more liveries that could conflict with DTG products then I think we have a massive problem hiding away here.

And why well aside from that problem let’s talk about money.

Markets and Gens. GTA 6 will be a killer.
Simply put DTG if you don’t make a game fast easy and enjoyable for the younger gens, who have limited funds.
Where do you think they will spend their money when GTA 6 comes out next year.

I will be buying GTA 6, just look at it. It fresh it’s fun and most of all entertaining and no pressure to rush the game.

On console it’s a game. Kids. On PC that for the more advanced experienced enthusiasts.
Adults want to play just as much as kids.

We can’t play a game if there is no time too.

So yes DTG, I’m not your enemy. I do think about you.

Can you think about us here too?.

    Dave, I support you.

    Lee and Rigsby lol.
✌ I place peace for a reason. That’s all I want for us all.

    Please DTG. Help us.
