So, I was thinking about conductor mode and how it will be on some of the upcoming add-ons, and I'm seeing a bit of a problem.

Specifically, some of the upcoming releases, specifically Manchester Airport Commuter, Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn and Spoorlijn Zwolle - Groningen, are going to feature EMU trains that are coupled together, that do not have gangways to move between units while the train is moving. Although the NS ICM in Spoorlijn Zwolle - Groningen used to have it in the past, hence why the cab is so high.

So, when playing as the conductor on these add-ons, how will the game handle which unit to check passengers in?
We can't be in two units at once, and frankly, I'd be a little bit annoyed if I had to go and check the HUD to figure out which unit I'm expected to be in when we start going as I play HUDless, no matter if driver or conductor. As well, to some degree, I feel like if the timetable starts dictating exactly what unit to be in at which stop, I'd feel a bit nannied, and it'd take away from the experience and freedom.

So, how do you all recon this would end up looking like?
Can the game even handle delegating the tasks to the unit you closed the doors from?
At the same time, if for a whole multi-stop journey, the conductor only resides in one single unit, that too would have to affect the score somehow, as that'd be bad conduct(or).
So can the sim be made to be forgiving on missed passengers and situations so long as the time spent per unit isn't significantly unbalanced?

I'm happy so long as they won't start unreasonably dictating which unit to take, and especially not if they circumvent having coupled units entirely in order not to have to adres this problem.

I'm curious to see your all opinions on this :)
Maybe I'm anticipating problems that won't even be an issue at all

Conductor mode on first-generation DMU / EMUs is my worry.

On modern units the guard has door control, but on old slam-door stock you lose an element of gameplay, and have less to do.

Well, sure, you have door control, but you can't perform any of your duties in multiple trains as the same time and be scored fairly at the same time.

For the slam-door trains. Doesn't Preston-Carlisle feature conductor mode also? How did they handle it?
I don't think the procedure itself would be too much of an issue there, considering they did implement conductor mode differently depending on the country/train used. Excluding when it bugs out, like the train immediately driving into the sunset as you whistle, doors open and all.
