I was trying out a Class 86 express train, hurtling down the line at 100mph, when "White Van Man" takes a life and death gamble and just manages to get across an ungated level crossing, just avoiding both my train and an 87 led express on the other line!

There was a whistleboard sign not far before, which I didn't respond to because I was answering a message on the phone: is this Train Simulator's subtle way of telling me to pay more attention? :)

Is this a common experience on TS? It certainly woke me up, and carnage was very narrowly avoided!

Haha!.... WCML near Barton... There's always a kamikaze Transit there.

    In that location... yes.

BTW... you'd really appreciate the AP class 86 enhancement pack if you like driving the 86.

Yes, I was driving that! Love the sound it makes when you engage the reverser: sounds like something straight out of the BBC’s Radiophonic Workshop for Dr Who.

I had conniptions for a moment as I just couldn’t get the AP 86 to move like the normal 86 and 87, then a reread of the manual reminded me that AP trains always expect Ctrl+N!

That's the standard 86 in that screenshot above, surely. That's why I mentioned you'd like the AP version.

it is. Sometimes level crossings for some reason simply don't work.

Maybe it was the default one in the screenshot, sorry: I drove it to try to work out why the AP one wasn’t budging.

    Inver...

I had a similar experience on Wherry Lines... Doing about 60 & went over an AWS ramp before a crossing, AWS duly goes off and I "crashed" through an articulated truck!!!

Needless to say I was so shocked I failed to cancel the AWS & it brought me to a dead stand as its supposed to do...!!!

Think it was on Fife Circle I 'took out' a police car as it drove through a level crossing.

Nah.. that screenshot is WCML Over Shap... :) It's at Barton about halfway between Preston and Garstang.

Yes, I realised straight after it was Shap, keep thinking it’s ‘North’

Apparently that route is notorious for passengers walking off platforms too.
