For those who have any landscapes imported and working can you share links to where you got the data from. I'm in the UK and trying to get my landscape based on Conisbrough to Swinton (South Yorkshire). Originally I was just gonna create my first route to Mexborough but as Swinton is literally just around the corner I thought I'd add that in as well. I'm not sure if I'm using the right websites to get my downloads or if the downloads i'm getting are in the right format but when I import my .hgt files I just get a flat landscape and as for the lidar I cant get that in at all i've followed 2 tutorials to get that imported in the right format but qgis just comes up with errors in the files when I try to merge them.
A 1 minute search (and a few more minutes of testing) brought up this website. 1 meter DTM is generally the highest resolution you could ever need. https://www.data.gov.uk/dataset/3fc40781-7980-42fc-83d9-0498785c600c/lidar-composite-dtm-2019-1m As for having the right format, data is data so any issues should be solved with QGIS conversion or reprojection rather than with finding a new source.
so the .tif is what i use to get into a suitable format by using Qgis or the .cpg .dbf .prj .shp .shx that also came with the download ? (the last 5 came in a folder named lidar_used_in_merging_process )
If I remember this correctly, you only need the GeoTiff file which is just a .tiff file with some added georeferencing. I have no idea what format does the TSW editor need though.
The correct format for TSW is in the ASC format, reprojected into WGS84 Pseudo Mercator (if memory serves). Matt.
Well that Welsh site I found actually unzips directly into asc format. The problem as I described in another thread though is each packet is very small, about 250m x 250m which in turn yields about 10 asc files. To make matters more complicated you can only download each packet individually, no bulk selection. So probably okay if you want to do a short branch line but not something like the SWML or Central Wales line where you would go boss eyed managing all those files!
