I’ve seen enough of the lighting now to give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Which way will I go?

One thing I was waiting to see was some ambient light at night and I have now done a 2 hour service in Cajon Pass that started just before sunset and ends in, yes, some moonlight. There was a fair period of time between the day ambient light going and the night ambient light appearing, just like in TSW2, where there was a distinct black feeling to everything but at all times the lighting is significantly better than in TSW2 because of the scenery lights. The moonlight, once there, didn’t get too bright at all in the service I did but there was definite light on the scenery.

Together with the frankly wonderful volumetric clouds, the new lighting is making TSW3 twice the game TSW2 was and I reckon that with careful choices of date and seasons it will be possible to get everything looking how I like it, and as in a lot of instances already, better than I ever thought it could be. I’ve not had to be that careful so far with dates and most times it has looked either good or great, except I have seen it not looking too great when in a poor weather setting like heavy rain. In all fine weather settings in any daytime service with a clear or cloudy sky it looks fantastic. Cajon Pass looks better than the other routes, so I guess it will vary route by route.

The eye adaptation seems to be working well and apart from making some views just a little too bright it hasn’t got in the way of enjoying the scenery. We may need a toggle for sunglasses at some point though.

Overall I like it a lot. So it’s a big thumbs up from me. Well done to everyone at DTG who has made this possible.

I generally like the new lighting but full sun around midday still looks too washed out. We really do need more options to tune the appearance to our liking, without having to faff about with monitor or global Nvidia outputs.

I agree with the OP, lighting is great on the most part. Early morning and evening sunrise and sunsets look amazing, the dynamic wet weather and thunder storms are also great. I do also feel tho that the day light lighting, especially on the UK routes is abit to bright which often makes the colours washed out. I hope this can be further tweaked for release.
