    Hello all,
How should I use lights on UK routes ?
OK I have day lights, night lights, markers only, and off. Whait is the use nowdays ?

Only whent its full dark should i put night lights, or before sunset? And what about rain or fog ?
Should i ever use markers only and off position ?
    Thanks !

My friend told me these rules apply on the railway he works for in the UK.
Day headlights for use during daylight hours until dusk and after dawn
Night lights to be used at dusk onwards until dawn
Marker lights to be used in depots without headlights on
Tail lights to be used at the rear of the train at all times (except on freight where a flashing light should be on the rear of the final wagon and not on the locomotive).

Day headlights and night headlights at appropriate lighting situation (driver chooses when to switch between the two for the most part)
Markers to be used when in depots, sidings etc, basically when not "running"
Tail lights to be applied to any non-driving end, so when stopped on sidings BOTH ends should have these set, or when driving the rear of any powered loco or unit (EMU, DMU etc) should have red lights on

One additional fillip - a non-powered trailing unit (wagon, coach or loco) should have a flashing beacon rather than tail lights set except where it's a DVT which is considered part of a set, so if you had 2 66s in top and tail consist but the rear 66 was not powered then that 66 would have NO lights on, but a beacon set (which would flash red), the same as a set of wagons; but a 91 with a DVT on the back, the DVT would have it's lights set even though it's not a "powered unit"

Not sure, but I think the night headlights are used during heavy rain and fog too.

I would call those "appropriate lighting situations"... ;)

Why worry. Very few locos in TSW have worthwhile headlights. :)

Well, i do this for pleasure of simulation, even if those lights in TSW are worthless. But that a problem of general lightining that is quite poor in TSW..
