Three country corner Lindau Hbf - St. Gallen (early 2000s) Today, I suggest the line from Lindau to St. Gallen as a route Add-On for Train Sim World 3. I know this route has already been suggested before, but why not throw in my own suggestion? And: My proposal is about the years 2001 to 2003... some of you may already know why! Content General information Why this route? Map Trains Services Gallery Brief overview First, a vert shortened version of my suggestion for all those who don’t want to read the full text. Spoiler: Content Overview Route Name Lindau Hbf - St. Gallen Years 2001 - 2003 Route Length 50 km / 31 mi Journey Duration 40 minutes Hbf - St. Gallen Location Southern Germany / Northern Switzerland Allowed Speed 140 kmph / 93 mph Trains SBB EuroCity (pulled by DB Class 218) ICE TD (DB Class 605) Stations Lindau Hbf (Germany) Bregenz (Austria) St. Margrethen (Switzerland) St. Gallen (Switzerland) Why Amazing landscape Three countries in 50 km only Iconic trains 1. General This route connects three countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland; in no more than 50 kilometers. It uses four lines: The first part of the Lindau - Bludenz line, the full line from Lauterach to St. Margrethen, the last part of the Chur - Rorschach line and the Rorschach - St. Gallen line. It runs along the eastern coast of Germany’s largest lake and crosses the Rhine, Germany’s longest river. Lindau Hbf (today Lindau-Insel), opened 1921 and the end of this route, is located on an island. Since there is a newer station called “Lindau-Reutin” for long-distance-trains, there can’t be seen any of those today. The longest part of this route is located in Switzerland. The other terminus station, St. Gallen, was built from 1853 to 1856. It is a major train station in Eastern Switzerland. 2. Why this route? If you don’t know what it looks like there, scroll down to the Gallery. I know we’ve already got tons of German routes, but in terms of landscape, I think this one would be ahead of the other German routes we have so far in TSW. Imagine driving the iconic Spoiler: Suggested train 218 there! In addition, it is an international route, also connecting Austria and Switzerland in no more than 50 kilometers. 3. Map This time, I used Google Maps for showing you the route I am suggesting. Just follow this link: Link: Lindau → St. Gallen. 4. Trains These are the trains I am suggesting for this Route ICE TD (DB Class 605) An ICE-TD on a special journey near Rostock The ICE-TD is a high-speed DMU and the only diesel-powered ICE. It was built to offer ICE-comfort on non-electrified lines. Sadly, it was taken out of service in 2016. One reason why I chose the years 2001 - 2003 to locate the add-on on the timeline is that this route was operated by the ICE-TD then. In 2003, the trains were taken out of service first, due to technical problems. In 2007, they’ve been reactivated to run down the lines between Germany and Denmark. Ten years later, they have finally been retired and most of them were dismantled. One unit, called “advanced TrainLab”, is still active as a test train for Deutsche Bahn. In 2000, the Class 605 set the German speed record for DMUs with having reached 222 kmph (137 mph). As one unit is formed of four coaches only, they were seen in double units very often. Like the ICE-T, which it is visually strongly reminiscent of, it is equipped with special tilting technology. DB Class 218 Two 218s with SBB EuroCity carriages, forming the EC 99 (Memmingen, 1996)The DB Class 218 is one of the most seen diesel-powered locomotives in Germany. I suggest to use it for EuroCity services by SBB here. As livery for the coaches, I’d use the “old” SBB EuroCity livery in the picture above (not the orange Eurofima-C1 ones!). The Class 218 is still in use, but the EuroCity lines from Munich to Zürich via Lindau and St. Gallen are served by Swiss EMUs today. I chose this locomotive, because it is a must-have for fans of German locos.5. Services After a lot of research, I found out that the following services served the route (according to the timetable of 2001): ICE 92 “Angelika Kauffmann” München Hbf → Buchloe → Memmingen → Lindau Hbf → Bregenz → St. Margrethen → St. Gallen → Winterthur → Zürich Airport → Zürich HB ICE TD (DB Class 605)ICE 95 “Gottfried Keller” Zürich HB → Zürich Airport → Winterthur → St. Gallen → St. Margrethen → Bregenz → Lindau Hbf → Memmingen → Buchloe → München Hbf ICE TD (DB Class 605)EC 93 “Angelika Kauffmann” Zürich HB → Zürich Airport → Winterthur → St. Gallen → Rorschach → St. Margrethen → Bregenz → Lindau Hbf → Memmingen → Buchloe → München Hbf SBB Eurocity (pulled by 2x DB Class 218)EC 94 “Gottfried Keller” München Hbf → Buchloe → Memmingen → Lindau Hbf → Bregenz → St. Margrethen → St. Gallen → Winterthur → Zürich Airport → Zürich HB SBB Eurocity (pulled by 2x DB Class 218)EC 98 “Bavaria” München Hbf → Buchloe → Memmingen → Lindau Hbf → Bregenz → St. Margrethen → St. Gallen → Winterthur → Zürich Airport → Zürich HB SBB Eurocity (pulled by 2x DB Class 218)EC 99 “Bavaria” Zürich HB → Zürich Airport → Winterthur → St. Gallen → St. Margrethen → Bregenz → Lindau Hbf → Memmingen → Buchloe → München Hbf SBB Eurocity (pulled by 2x DB Class 218)EC 196 “Albert Einstein” München Hbf → Kempten (Allgäu) Hbf → Lindau Hbf → Bregenz → St. Margrethen → St. Gallen → Winterthur → Zürich Airport → Zürich HB SBB Eurocity (pulled by 2x DB Class 218)EC 197 “Albert Einstein” Zürich HB → Zürich Airport → Winterthur → St. Gallen → St. Margrethen → Bregenz → Lindau Hbf → Kempten (Allgäu) Hbf → München Hbf SBB Eurocity (pulled by 2x DB Class 218) 6. Gallery In order to give you a better insight into my proposal, I was looking for a few pictures of the route and the landscape. Note: As the time I suggested for this Add-On lies far in the past, the pictures may not match the age of time I intended to let us drive in later. This suggestion sounds Amazing ! Just the two trains together on the route sounds good! And I suppose the Br 218 can also run some freight services, too Although one thing I would add, would be something to drive regional services with. Without that, the route could feel somewhat empty
Thank you! And about the regional trains: I actually wanted to also add some regional services to this whole thing, but it was already hard to find out which long-distance-trains were operating there back in 2001, and I didn’t find any source describing what regional services were offered there. If you know one, feel free to name it here, and I will add it to this whole thing!
I suppose a guess would be a Br 218 with n-wagen, but for that we would need a new cabcar to operate them as push-pull. For that we would have two options: 1.Rebuild the Karlsruher Kopf to have them usable with diesel locomotives (easiest was is to just redo the cab, but a different type KaKo would also be great ) 2.Or create the n-wagen with Wittenberger Cab, which then would give us a new experience, which then could also be used with electric locomotives)
Bring it on and for the Austrian Österreicher Bundesbahn segment these are likely to be ÖBB Baureihe 4020 1144 1044 1043 Taurus Lokomotive Baureihe 1016/1116. Note that the ÖBB Baureihe 1016/1116 count towards DB Baureihe 182 & Dispolok Baureihe 182 achievements.
Because you have another way of getting the 1820 km True Taurus Achievement Sprint 182 100 kmh and Blink You'll Miss it 182 km achievements pertaining to the 182 locomotives. Due to 1016/1116 being part of Siemens ES64U & ES64U2 family.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I understand that not everyone might be interested in having another ICE in the game, but I think there are still a lot of fans who would love to drive the ICE-TD. It's a unique train that was only in service for a short period of time, and it would be great to have it recreated in Train Sim World. At the same time, I also suggested the BR218 as a possible locomotive for the route, which would provide a different type of experience for players who prefer diesel traction. I think having both the ICE-TD and the BR218 would add a lot of variety and replay value to the game, and give players the opportunity to try out different types of trains on the same route. Of course, it's ultimately up to the developers to decide which trains to add to the game, but I think it's always good to have as many options as possible to cater to different players' preferences.
