    Dear colleagues,

Here's my suggestion, hopefully someday we'll see this line in TSW or TS:

    1. Presentation: The Douro river line extends from Ermesinde (Oporto) to Pocinho (next to the border of Spain) to a total extension of 160km. Although my suggestion would be perhaps to Régua which should be around 70km of the total of the line. It one of the oldest train lines in Portugal, first constructions began in 1875 in connection to the famous Port wine production but also with the farming industry and passenger transportation. The initial idea was to provide an alternative way of transportation to the riverboats, which were slow and cumbersome.

The line has been in “decline” since the late 1980’s the depopulation of the rural areas around the Douro valley and for the lack of need for a normal passenger transportation also due to the remoteness of the itinerary construction and modernization of the line is difficult.

Nowadays the line is less used for freight and normal passenger but more for tourism.
