Linke Rheinstrecke

Discussion in 'TSW General Discussion' started by SD40Australia, Oct 16, 2023.

  1. I just saw on google maps that there is a railway on the other side of the Rhein River as well between Mainz and Koblenz.

I wonder if there are plans to bring this to TSW4?

Funnily enough, that would be the Rechte Rheinstrecke...

Disappointingly, there’s nothing on the other bank in the game. In reality, there are pretty towns and castles, as well as the railway. Having these modelled would have made the route so much nicer and more realistic.

It’s a missed opportunity for sure. That being said, I get the economic arguments that making the right track would essentially double the route length for “little” benefit. As it stands, I’d rather have the left side the way it is now than not at all.

We would have even more bugged and not fixed signals if they had done both sides.

That would be the East Rhine Railway (Rechte Rheinstrecke) from Cologne to Wiesbaden.

As someone who is born and raised for a short time along both routes, you would be surprised that I would say it is not 100% necessary to incorporate this as well in the game because it more or less provide the same scenery as it almost share the identical same route line, just a few meters towards east.

However, as an extension to the Linke Rheinstrecke it could have been a cool thing to do, if DTG were actually a different company and had a different mind set to enhance routes to full maximum possible.

  8. I just love the route. I'm just interested in the nearby tracks.

    Thank you for your input!

One day if DTG or 3rd party was to release an expanded route I would buy it. It still has stations on the other side right?

And if the did the branch to Kaiserslautern....

In any case I appreciate the route as is. It is just interest and research.

I was there when visiting Germany on 2002, and made the route by the typical "tourist boat", there on the river..
I noticed on one side - the one we have on the sim... is for high speed trains, like ICE and DB 101 + IC cars, and on the other side of the Rhein, the tracks are for freight or regional trains.
I guess it is like that still today, as it has sense.

So there is no reason to create it for TSW.

  10. It seems it would add diversity of freight like Main Spessart Bahn does.

    Maybe one day.

It also has passenger trains. It seems to be a very busy route though. More priority given to freight?

Interestingly, I raised a similar thought in a thread about Dresden-Riesa regaring purchasable addons for routes. I would buy a route extension of DRA to Hoyerswerda, Cottbus or any other, as I really enjoy that route. It's my favorite and love it probably as much as you do the Left Rhine Railway.

Maybe you should suggest the East Rhine railway in the suggestion forum then? ;)

Of course, of course! Nothing against that. The funny thing is that although I was born in Koblenz, the Rhine valleys do not attract me that much personally. It belongs to me, however I don't like that kind of captivity in there if you can understand what I mean. I prefer far landscapes with endless meadows and some mountains in the distance, that's the favor of my choice. As you might be also interested in the routes not only close but also being in the same region, I can advice you take a look at the route I linked in my signature. This is a route in the area northeast of Koblenz, and actually the route I grew up on. The landscape on the pictures there is more what I prefer in comparison to the routes on the Lahn and Rhein rivers. I was once in Bad Ems, a city eastwards from Koblenz on the RB23 (Koblenz-Limburg route) and didn't liked the Lahn there either. However, I really enjoy when the Lahn goes further up towards east and get in more even landscape around where Limburg is located.

Yes, it has. And not a few only.

Priority for freight in comparison to the left one, yes. However, it has a big amount of regional services, too. Let me quote this from Wikipedia as I couldn't explain it any better:

"The line is heavily congested and gives priority to long-distance freight trains. Long distance passenger trains in the Rhine Valley use the West Rhine line and the Cologne-Frankfurt high-speed line. When there are line closures on the left side, the long-distance trains are diverted to the East Rhine route. In that case the stop for Bonn is replaced with Bonn-Beuel.

Passenger services on the line are provided by RegionalBahn and Regional-Express trains. According to Deutsche Bahn timetables, the East Rhine route is KBS 465 (Cologne-Koblenz) and KBS 466 (Koblenz-Wiesbaden). The KBS 465 added a section from Cologne to Mönchengladbach a few years ago. All passenger trains start or finish at the Koblenz main station. Trains from there in the direction of Wiesbaden cross on the Horchheimer Bridge (south of Koblenz). Trains travelling in the direction of Cologne cross the Urmitz Railway Bridge (north of Koblenz), or travel via Vallendar over the Horchheimer Bridge.

Generally Regional-Express trains operate every two hours between the Frankfurt and Wiesbaden main train stations and Koblenz. RegionalBahn trains operate every two hours between the Wiesbaden main station and Koblenz.

Regional-Express trains operate every hour between Mönchengladbach main station and Koblenz, via Cologne Central Station and Vallendar, using the Horchheim bridge. RegionalBahn trains operate every hour between Mönchengladbach Hbf, Cologne Hbf and Koblenz, via the Urmitz Railway Bridge.

The northern section is also served hourly by the Rhein-Erft-Express (RE 8) and the Rhein-Erft-Bahn (RB 27) lines. The RE-8 serves the Cologne/Bonn Airport station and extends south of Koblenz on the Horchheimer Bridge. It uses Series-425 electric locomotives and a maximum speed of 140 km/h. The RB 27 operates between Porz and Koblenz, crossing from the north via the Urmitz Bridge. It operates non-stop from Koblenz to Cochem twice daily. The RB-27 uses Series-143 electric locomotives and three double-decker carriages with a maximum speed of 120 km/h. From Moenchengladbach to Rommerskirchen, the tariffs of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) apply; from Grevenbroich to Neuwied, those of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS); and from Unkel to Koblenz, the tariffs of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel (VRM).

Until 2010, the southern section was served by the Loreley-Bahn (RB 10) and the Loreley-Express (RE 10) services, using electric class 143 or 110 locomotives and 4-5 coaches every one or two hours. In 2007, the operation of services on the section from the Koblenz–Frankfurt section was tendered by the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (Rhine-Main Transport Association, RMV) and the Zweckverband Schienenpersonennahverkehr Rheinland-Pfalz Nord (Association for Passenger Rail Transport of Rhineland-Palatinate North). On 12 December 2010, VIAS GmbH took over operations of the service, now called the RheingauLinie (originally numbered SE 10, but called RB 10 again from December 2016). Between Koblenz, Lahnstein and Wiesbaden trains now stop at every station, but between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt Central Station there now only two stops. Similarly, between Neuwied and Koblenz Central Station there were initially no stations. Since its completion in April 2011, Koblenz Stadtmitte station has also been served. The services run every hour, sometimes even every half-hour. VIAS GmbH uses new Stadler FLIRT sets for the service. Because of the renewal of track on the line in 2010 and the good acceleration of the FLIRT sets, the travel time is only slightly longer than that of the former RE 10 service, which did not stop at each station.

Between Koblenz and Kaub, tariffs of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel apply and between Lorchhausen and Wiesbaden/Frankfurt, the tariffs of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV)."

Then you was there when I also lived in the region. Yes, the riverboats of the Rhine. A very famous attraction for the region. It's a shame that DTG didn't add at least some animated riverboats on the Rhine (just like ETS2 has some animated ships when you drive near canals or the sea) as it almost is part of the landscape and atmosphere. There is no Rhine, without riverboats.

Just having a little bit of scenery on the other side of the river would have been nice. Just playing the game you’d have no idea there was a railway there.

I like LFR very much, I drove about 16.000 km on it till today, it’s a very nice track. I once lived in Budenheim, maybe this is the reason why I love this route so much. And I think it’s very well made, especially Bingen and St. Goar. But to be honest, rather than having a more detailed right Rhine side I would prefer to have much more scenery on the left side, like much increased ship traffic on the river Rhine at all - I play onXbox Series S and beside a few ships at Trechtlingshausen and St. Goar, the Rhine is empty. I would like to see street signs, especially the iconic yellow ones beside the federal road. There should be more traffic on the road, not just cars, but with lorries, busses and vans. Gas stations would be nice as well and discount stores like the ones which can be spotted at the Niddathalbahn. I really love LFR in it’s current state, but there is much room for improvements beside more scenery on the right side.

    True, like adding a Br 140 :D
Sorry, I‘m just itching for a proper Bundesbahn freight loco :)
