The new route map that came with TSW5 introduced this handy feature that allowed you to hover your cursor over station platforms to display upcoming arrivals/departures in a table. But one thing I’ve never figured out: What do the letters in the leftmost column mean? For example, this is the situation at Norton Fitzwarren station in the WSR steam timetable: There are some platforms with a wild mix of letters (such as the example above), and others where the same letter is repeated throughout the whole column. Would be amazing if someone could help me find the answer here. Cheers!
those are the service numbers. on other routes such as german ones it shows excusable ones such as ICE 1234 or RE66, but I can't personally explain the pure single-letters behind this, unfortunately...
Just checking on Frankfurt-Fulda right now, and the correct service numbers do indeed appear in that column! Perhaps someone knows what these seemingly UK-specific letters mean? Are they truly random? At least in the case of Norton Fitzwarren, I can’t make out a pattern. The same letter is assigned to both arriving and departing services driving in different directions and using different rolling stock.
Aren't the WSR timetables labelled Set A-E? Like the 4 carriage train with the class 09 is one letter, and the class 47 with more carriages in another letter
In the case of Norton Fitzwarren, E is used for the Class 150 AI to/from Taunton, but B is used for all player-operated journeys, including both heritage runs and the 150 shuttles to/from Bishops Lydeard. So I don’t think it’s indicative of the train class. But it also can’t be indicative of AI or player services as some platforms have more than two letters in that column. Great theory, but I checked, and it has no relation to that whatsoever.
