https://twitter.com/LNER/status/1536317566402146304?cxt=HHwWgMC9-fqrjNIqAAAA Quite exciting news for those who grew up in the 90s. LNER has decided to repaint all of it's remaining Intercity 225 sets into the classic intercity swallow livery. It differs slightly from what's currently applied to 91119 as the LNER logo is in place of where the word "Intercity" would be. What's doubly exciting is that unless I'm mistaken they intend to paint the coaches in the livery as well, which will undoubtedly cause a stir. I've seen groups of enthusiasts waiting on the platforms at King's Cross just to get a picture of 91119, so I imagine they'll all flock to locations on the ECML now that entire sets are wearing the livery. Of course that includes me! Even though I grew up in the privatisation era it's possibly the most iconic livery in British Rail's history, and the design is truly timeless. What's more is that this probably means these sets will still be in use for at least 2 or 3 more years, I doubt they'd spend the time and money to do this project if they weren't. I love the 91s so this is great news. I'm hoping this starts a trend of repainting old stock into classic liveries to give them a new lease of life in their final years. It could be a great way to honour their heritage. Ironically enough I think that doing this actually makes the trains "feel" newer than if they were wearing more modern liveries that weren't meant for them, if that makes sense. So let's all hope operators of Sprinters follow suit and bring back the Regional Railways livery!
Having seen the photos of 91127 (the first one to be repainted) I have to say it looks quite nice. However, this new paint scheme isn't quite like the IC livery as instead of being black, it's dark red (oxblood) to match LNERs colours. Also, I have been told by someone who works for LNER that 91110 (BBMF) and 91111 (For the Fallen) will keep their liveries but will be cleaned up.
Living right along side the ecml I cannot wait for the day when I can look out my window and not have to look at the terrible vtec livery they currently bear. A brilliant decision from lner and very excited about it!!!!
I actually really like the LNER/ VTEC livery. It suits them well and I think it's definitely one of their best liveries, but each to their own.
I suppose it is much better than the old east coast silver livery but like you say each to their own.
