I'm presently building a new fictional route. I'm using in places the LNWR signals (superb) that come with the Stainmore route. I've found that on my route they only clear when almost on top of them despite the road ahead being clear and correctly signalled. They of course work perfectly on Stainmore so I'm at a loss to understand this. Can anyone shed some light please

Sometimes they do that on the Stainmore route - you be in the platform with a Red and as you start to move it clears

Indeed but out on the WCML sectiojn there they are all nicely cleared well ahead as you approach doing 60 plus.

    • They use an old scripting system which is best avoided as they are not reliable with the current version of TS Classic.
    • The creator of the Stainmore route had to disable many of them for the route to work without crashing. Even with that, several do not work as you would expect - e.g. the distants at Stainmore Summit never clear.
    • You need to understand how the scripts work - signals do not clear immediately unless a train has previously passed a distant signal at "clear" or is moving towards them at a close distance away. That is how they were designed and they are not suitable for all situations.
    • Visually, the signals represent L&NWR power-operated signals - peculiar to just a few locations of 1900s power signalling on the LNWR. They are totally inappropriate and unrealistic for the Stainmore route and many others.
    • The author of those signals seems to have vanished and abandoned them, so they will not be fixed. I doubt he would know how to as they were adopted from another author, long-departed from TS.
    • The best LNWR signals available come from Chaddock Engineering, they use Kuju scripting which works as it should. If you want to use more advanced scripting, AndiS's scripts are the ultimate available although you would need to script each signal yourself.
    Hope that helps,

    John
