Hi, I just done a clean install of TS classic and it took a while for it to load just trains Midland mainline, does the -fastload command still improve things or did the updates take away the need to do that? Thank you.
There is no "-fastload" option anymore as it has long become the default. Note it only speeds up loading of content in .ap files, if you have bought MML from JustTrains directly it will come as loose files and might load up a bit slower than the Steam version. Also note that on first run, the blueprint cache has to be generated (that happens when the loading bar is stuck for a few seconds). On second run the game can use the cache and will load up faster. In the end it depends how much assets are needed for a route + scenario. JT are using a lot of assets. And if you are using a HDD (slow, eventually fragmentation plays a role), SATA SSD (medium) or M.2 NVMe SSD (fast).
Just curious this keeps coming up. When you say loading takes a while. What's a while? I just checked here and initial startup is 25 seconds, hit drive and another 10 seconds. Load a career scenario another 20 seconds. My RailWorks folder is 566 GB.
The "-Fastload" command is obsolete, but the "-DisableFastload" command is still current. More info in the thread: All 119 Command Line / Launch Options - Which Ones Are Current/obsolete/incorrect Or Missing ? https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...-current-obsolete-incorrect-or-missing.74961/
For example, JT MML loads: Kuju\RailSimulator (ELAP), 2.8 GB JustTrains\CommonLibrary 4.7 GB JustTrains\MML 1.5 GB DTG\Academy 900 MB plus scenario specific stock. So if you are on a magnetic hard drive, it may take a while. I personally recommend using a dedicated at least 1 TB sized NVMe SSD for RailWorks. Available for the price of a good dinner.
Time to load Steam 26.3 seconds. Time to load TSC Beta to Drive screen 24.27 seconds. Time to load Donner Pass Career Scenario #1,19.9 seconds. TSC on dedicated M.2 drive, File size 529GB ISP Download speed 50Mbs. Part of the game loading time is for DB searching your TSC files and searching for workshop and game updates. The more you have the longer it takes. The speed of your internet connection and LAN also inters into this step. I would suspect that starting with a cleared cache or not would affect loading times.
