I must say I have been rather disappointed with Birmingham Cross City, despite knowing the route well I know it from fast trains, not stoppers, and found myself quickly fed up of the same stop-start style of driving with hardly any alternatives. As a result, I think a loco DLC would help remedy this, and what better train to do so than the Turbostar? Trains and variants The trains included would be: Class 170/5 in West Midlands Railway livery This is the 2 coach variant of the Class 170 used by West Midlands Railway on their Birmingham New Street to Hereford services, which operate on the CCL between Birmingham New Street and Bromsgrove, calling only University intermediately. Class 170/1 in Cross Country livery Cross Country use the original sub-class of 170 on Nottingham/Stanstead to Cardiff services, running on the CCL between Birmingham New Street and Bromsgrove, albeit not calling at the latter, stopping only at New Street and University. The 170/1 fleet consists of both 2 and 3 coach variants, however for ease of modelling the 2 coach variant may be the only one included. Class 171/2 The Class 171 is used by Southern on unelectrified services, which would be integrated into TSW as an unplayable layer at Eastbourne on South Coastway, Ashford International on SEHS and East Croydon on London Commuter. As with the 170/1, I presume only a 2 coach variant would be modelled, and it would make sense to utilise the 171/2, as it is virtually the same as the 170/5, requiring only a livery, coupler and interior change. As the units are so common, I imagine this would be a popular and well received train if done well and with good sounds, and given how widespread they are I am sure it could be integrated into future TSW routes.
Bring it on and for the Class 170/5 that can serve as the basis for a Scotrail Class 170/4 for Diesel services on Queen Street to Waverly via Falkirk High. Picture of Scotrail Class 170
Yes please, I love Turbostars that much that they are welcome into my DLC list if it gets made of course
That hits the jackpot!!! Beastly units on my local line , I love Turbos more than a Sprinter but Sprinters are second best in my opinion, nothing can beat a HST though
A Turbostar would be a brilliant DLC, as it would allow many routes to become more alive, as they are very common in the UK
I don't think making a Class 170 just for BCC and maybe ECW would offer enough gameplay, a turbostar would be better included with a new route such as the Fife Circle Line or the Harrogate Loop Line where it would have longer services and more use, then modified into low price expansions for BCC/ECW in due course (similar to the RHTT DLC or other base game expansions).
Do You mean the new route Edinburgh Waverly to Glasgow Queens Street via Falkirk High or not? If yes then Class 170 had to weave through Class 385s 2022. However the addition of Cathcart Circle and Falkirk High lines results in the 2019 service pattern where Class 170 needs to weave with 385 & 314s on sections that have diesel trains running services.
No I live on the Dundee-Aberdeen line hence my first ever route suggestion on these forums Maybe in the future DTG or Rivet can make a 170 DLC for this route , hopefully with AP sounds too
If the Class 170's run on this line then the Class 385's can't because the Class 170's were only used on the line before the Class 385's were built. Class 170's never ran on CCL.
The Class 170 can still be seen occasionally operating Inverness/Aberdeen services in-place of the Scotrail HSTs, but as express services they run non-stop to Stirling so it would only make sense to include such if the route ended there.
We could have the harrogate lines with the class 170 turbostar where they are very common. A scenic route too.
Would love to see the Turbostar come to TSW. As a loco DLC, it certainly would be great to add to existing timetables as mentioned i.e. the Southern Class 171 on ECW and SEHS, as well as AI-only services at East Croydon on London Commuter to/from London Bridge/Uckfield. Having also travelled quite a bit on Cross Country 170s to/from Peterborough earlier this year (services which originate from either Stansted Airport/Cambridge and New Street), would love to see these on the Cross City route as extra traffic. A Southern Class 171 having terminated at Eastbourne from Ashford International All photos taken by me A Class 377 and 171 from Southern at Eastbourne A Cross Country Class 170 departs Peterborough heading north with a service to Birmingham New Street
Fife Circle would not be bad for the 170, as long as the 158 is also on the line as well, as a fair few fife circle services use them
Yes it is, the Fife Circle would be a great route in TSW in the future, I've suggested it a few weeks ago but here's the link: Scottish East Coast Main Line/Fife Circle Line: Dundee-Edinburgh
