On the Main Menu, when selecting a particular scenario to run, the thumbnail image of the route appears, but the loco thumbnail is blank. I have opened the scenario xml file to make sure that the syntax is correct for the location of the image, but it still doesn't appear on the Menu. I have checked other scenario xml files for the correct format, but I still can't get certain scenario's to show the loco's. Case in point is the Portland Terminal Standard scenario Rigby Local Yard 4 - Sprague Energy. Under Freeroam, the loco shows for Rigby Yard. The loco images I have are all png 256x128, if that makes any difference. If anyone has Portland Terminal, would you kindly check the Standard scenario Rigby Yard Local 4 and tell me if you see the GP40 Guilford on the TS Main Menu. Thabks
Portland Terminal did not come with loco thumbnails, it was released in 2011 back when the RailWorks menu did not feature thumbnails but only descriptive text. (Yet thumbnails were used for inline html loco description, but not mandatory) For a loco thumbnail to be shown, a folder named "LocoInformation" must be located in the folder the main engine.bin is located, usually it is named "Engine", in this case "Locomotive". Inside the "LocoInformation" folder is the image, it can be png or jpg - but it must be named "image.png" and nothing else. Download the free Maine Maritime route from G-Trax - it is the rereleased Portland Terminal (SD40 got removed becaused it used a repaint of the Kuju model) but it features the thumbnails - you can copy them over to Portland Terminal assets folder. For the Guilford GP40 the path is: RailWorks\Assets\G-TraX\PortlandTerminal\RailVehicles\Diesel\GP40\GTI\Locomotive\LocoInformation\image.png Try it by downloading this image and putting it where I described. (Image by G-TraX) Or create your own thumbnails from your screenshots. You can also use 512x256 for more crispness or higher resolutions keeping the 2:1 ratio. The scenario you are mentioning is not part of PT, it is a workshop scenario by rsworkshop btw
Thanks for this great info. Will give it a try. Later: OK, some observations. 1. I DL'd Maine Maritime (MM) and found out that scenarios in MM don't show up when placed in PT routes/scenarios folder, but they all have loco thumbnails on the Main Menu page under the MM header but not the PT header. 2. The opening window in MM shows a Pan Am GP40 (I think that is what it is) with engine running, but when I click on the engine to activate it, the engine immediately stops running and pressing Z does not restart it. It just sits there and won't respond to any keys. 3. Cajon Pass has two scenarios, Cement Snoot and Don't Stop Moving, that lack loco thumbnails in the Main Menu so I checked the scenario's of both and they both are missing this entry which I found in other scenario's that show loco thumbnails on the Main Menu. <LocoClass d:type="cDeltaString">LOCO_CLASS_DIESEL</LocoClass> <LocoAuthor d:type="cDeltaString">Kuju</LocoAuthor> <FilePath d:type="cDeltaString">Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\railvehicles\diesel\sd40-2\black \engine</FilePath> Only problem is that I don't know where to put it in the proper place in the scenario xml and if there is any additional info/entry that is needed. Hope you can advise. Thanks
1. NEVER copy scenarios from one route folder to another. Although those routes look the same, they are technically two independent and different routes. Only do that if you know exactly what you are doing and are aware of the TS' file structure and path dependencies. You now have two scenarios with the same GUID which can lead to all sorts of strange behaviour. 2. What you mean, "opening window"? Supply a scenario name please. 3. These are very old scenarios. Their ScenarioProperties.xml do not contain info on the player loco, that's why you'll only find them in the unfiltered list. If you want to update them, load them into the editor, click Play, and if asked to save changes click yes. Do not edit manually please. Cheers!
1. OK, understood about not mixing scenarios. 2. What I am referring to here is when the scenario opens on my screen after TS has loaded it. See pic. This is Rigby Yard Outbound in MM. The second I click on the loco to activate it, the engine stops running and I can't restart it. Exhaust smoke appears but the engine is not running. 3. I think my best bet is to simply delete these two scenarios. Makes me wonder why the developer never included Player Driver loco's for them. Thanks
Delete the scenarios only because there's no loco thumbnail? I suggest just playing them would be a better idea. What the devs did is making sure you can still play those legacy scenarios. Can't see your problem. Well, it's your game anyway... Concerning the Freeroam Rigby Yard Outbound scenario... you are right on this. The engine shuts off because the loco's out of fuel... You can fix it by entering scenario editor, double click on the loco and drag the slider to 100%... don't ask me why they released this that way . But then it is a Freeroam with lots of locos to drive. You could also see it as a task - climb into another loco and pull this one to the fuel station to refill it! Think of it this way - it's a feature not a bug.
Ive found if you move the loco slightly as well, when you save the scenario it will then show the loco in the menu
