I can well imagine the London DLR on TSW with connections to the Midmay line, that would be cool and we could have a lot of London DLC connected, like the Suffragettes line, the Midmay line, the Southern/Gatwick Express, Bakerloo....
Great Route, yes. The problem is, the DLR is driverless. What would be the point in this Route, if the Trains don't need a Driver?
Bad idea it's not even driveable, in real life and plus it's even ai serviced on the TSW5 mildmay line route that released yesterday
Driverless is not entirely true though is it. A driver can hop on a dlr train, open up the control panel and drive it manually.
The DLR doesn't have drivers, it has Passenger Service Agents. Pretty much all the time the train is driven remotely by the control centre. I don't think it makes sense to have a DLC based around the rare occasions that the PSA has to open up the control panel.
The dlr has drivers that drive the trains. When there's issues with the system that controls the trains, drivers will take over. Every time the trains move in and out of the depots, it's done by drivers. If we was talking about, for example the shuttle services at airports etc, that can't be driven by a driver at all, then yes I agree its not going to be a very good route. But when you have ato trains that can be manually operated by a driver. Where's the problem? I guess in the future when all trains run ato, you wont want any routes, or a train simulator at all?
In such a future, train simulators would simply cover the times when trains were driven by people. Given that that is the entire appeal of a simulator.
Yeah I did think that but the focus seems to be on modern trains in tsw. It's been said a few times that old stuff don't sell. I guess it will be the end of train simulation.
I don’t believe the old stuff doesn’t sell thing, why would JT be able to make a route from the 80s with less refs than they have for modern routes and turn it into one of the best routes in TSW if old stuff didn’t sell
All I can say is that having played Glasgow Subway in TSC, great route and train massively let down by ATO which pretty much boils down to pressing three buttons door open and close then depart. Mind numbingly boring.
In fact there was a news article recently where someone had fallen on the line at a DLR station and despite the train being some distance away it ran over and killed the person. Whereas with a person supervising the ATO they might well have been able to intervene and make an emergency brake application to stop short.
I'm surprised no one pushed the emergency stop button! They are on both the trains and the platforms.
Well not sure what the external factors were, but given most people these days are staring at their phones wouldn’t surprise me if no one noticed. Or even worse, they start filming the incident rather than seeing what they could do to avert it.
That's very sad to hear. We would think in a world so much consisting of safety systems (partwise even by AI these days) something like that would be easy to avoid. But well... costs are a factor too. Well, I just found this article and this one here and it appears that it wouldn't be as easy for an unexperienced person to figure out what the buttons stand for. Here is a picture for the button at the station but don't know where the accident happened, whether there was one like these there or not. But as said here, the wording of "Do not take any risks" might be unhelpful. Unfortunately, its often small unfortunate things which can have a deep impact on accidents like that in the end.
It is a driverless train with an onboard member of staff on every train to operate doors and make announcements.
But what's the point of that when the entire point of a train simulator is to be able to drive trains? If I wanted to spend a session opening doors, I've got conductor mode for that already.
They also check the passengers tickets but I completely respect that opinion and to be honest I would rather drive aswell
