Chiltern Mainline The Chiltern Mainline is a popular route for commuters and travelers alike. It passes through beautiful countryside and historic towns as well as the Chiltern Hills. This route is the only line out of London which is not electrified. The Chiltern Mainline is 112 miles long with the vast majority of the route being countryside. There are 32 stations on this route. A map of the route can be seen above. At Princes Risborough there is a single track branch to Aylesbury. There is another branch after Haddenham and Thame Parkway which goes to Oxford. Stations on the branch to Oxford include Bicester Village, Islip, Oxford Parkway and Oxford. Rolling stock: Class 165 Class 168 DLC: Class 68 (id pay good money for this) MK3 coaches for the Class 68 Service Pattern: London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street - 1 train per hour London Marylebone to Birmingham Snow Hill - 1 train per hour London Marylebone to Oxford - 2 trains per hour London Marylebone to High Wycombe - 1 train per hour London Marylebone to Aylesbury - 1 train per hour London Marylebone to Aylesbury Vale Parkway - 1 train per hour Why i believe this route should be added to Train Sim World I strongly believe that this route should be added into Train Sim World due to the fact that this route has amazing scenery as trains pass through the Chiltern Hills, the countryside and many towns such as High Wycombe, Bicester, Banbury. Furthermore, this route would allow players to experience a busy London Marylebone station before departing and riding along London Underground trains on the Central Line. This route also has many attractions including Wembley Stadium which opens up the possibility of scenarios relating to football matches that could be happening at Wembley Stadium. Other attractions include the Chinnor and Princes Risborough line in which players would be able to see the start of at platform 4 at Princes Risborough. Chiltern Railway trains only call at platforms 1,2 and 3 at Princes Risborough though. There are also many sections on this route which would allow players to travel at high speed. This route would also be good in Train Sim World as there is a large amount of replay ability and there are a large amount of scenarios that could be implemented into the game for this route. Other operators GWR - There is a GWR service from Oxford to Banbury which is operated by a class 166. This isn’t a necessity for the route but it could be AI at Banbury station if players own the GWR route. West Midlands Trains - some services between Birmingham Snow Hill and Leamington Spa Cross Country - services from Bournemouth to Manchester Piccadilly and vice versa calling at Banbury and Leamington Spa. These would be voyagers and could just be AI. not really necessary to include. final facts: Top speed - 100mph Route duration - 1 hour 45 mins LAMP: LICENSING: DTG have licensing for GWR meaning that they would be able to implement the class 166 train as AI at Banbury station for the Banbury to Oxford GWR service. DTG also have licensing for West Midlands Railway. However, i believe that as of October 2020, DTG no longer have licensing for cross country. Furthermore, I know that JustTrains have licensing for Chiltern Railway and this is because they created the London Marylebone to Aylesbury route as well as the London Marylebone to Birmingham route on Train Simulator Classic. Working with JustTrains on this route for TSW would be highly beneficial and they would be able to assist in creating a fantastic and enjoyable route. ANTICIPATION I strongly believe that this route would be highly anticipated by a large percentage of the Train Sim World player base. This is due to the fact that the Chiltern Main Line has many Unique Selling Points (USPs) which would attract a new customer. This includes the Chiltern Main Line being the only route out of London which is not electrified, riding along the central line as Chiltern Railway trains make their way out of London, Wembley Stadium being a key attraction of the route, the Chiltern Hills, the beautiful countryside and historic towns, the Chinnor and Princes Risborough line which could be seen at Princes Risborough station and many more interesting sights as trains travel at high speeds through the countryside before approaching Birmingham. I strongly believe that players will not find this route boring and this is because there is a large amount of replay ability for players of Train Sim World with this route including scenarios for freight and for passenger services. Being new to this forum, i have spent some time reading through previous reviews and i can see that the Chiltern Main Line is in high demand as other members have also requested this route as well as London Marylebone to Aylesbury. MIX I strongly believe that there is enough gameplay to keep players engaged and occupied at all times. This route is fantastic for all players because there are short distance services for players who prefer shorter routes and there are also longer distance services for players such as myself who prefer long distance routes. This route also allows for passenger and freight services increasing the marketability of this route and increasing potential sales. Something else that i thought would be worth noting is that when there are engineering works going on at London Paddington, GWR trains divert via the Chiltern Main Line and they end up departing London Marylebone instead of London Paddington and going down the Chiltern Main Line all the way past Haddenham and Thame Parkway before going down the Oxford branch and then arriving into Oxford. I would strongly recommend people to watch some videos of GWR HSTs going down the Chiltern Main Line in May of 2018. This would be a fantastic bonus scenario for owners of the GWR route who would be able to drive a HST down the Chiltern Main Line. Perhaps the scenario would consist of taking over a GWR train at Haddenham and Thame Parkway and driving it down to London Marylebone or vice versa and stopping at Haddenham and Thame Parkway for another driver to take over. I very strongly believe that the gameplay of this route would align with the intended pricing and this is because players would definitely not get bored of this route as there are so many scenarios that could be created, so many landmarks to see, beautiful countryside and historic towns. PROMINENCE I believe that the locations included in this route are known globally and this is great for DTG if they decided to create this route because a large percentage of people outside of the UK would have heard of London as well as Birmingham and this increases the likelihood of them being attracted and interested in this route which is great because it means that the possibility of a large number of sales for this route is very high. This route contains famous landmarks including Wembley Stadium which may just be the most famous stadium in the world and a factor which may drive a player to purchase this route. To properly represent the route, I would place a static steam train on platform 4 at Princes Risborough to represent the Chinnor and Princes Risborough route although this is not necessary. The intended locos are highly necessary. I believe that the Class 68 is fantastic for this route because the sound of the train is like no other and it is able to travel at high speed which would satisfy and engage a very large percentage of players. Thank you for reading, i am aware that it is a lot of text. Please feel free to make suggestions as to how i could improve this.
Great suggestion mate, would be a great route to have in game and the 68s would be great too. Brilliant suggestion!
Excellent suggestion overall might as well have it remade by just Trains because they were the ones who made it in train simulator classic. if you want it bundle the following routes Preston to Blackpool Metropolitan Line and Chiltern Main Line as TSW 3 Just Trains adventure pack
Too long as it stands, maybe Marylebone to Banbury or Banbury to Birmingham would be feasible. In addition with only one new train being produced per route these days, things are going to feel fairly empty particularly between Aynho and Leamington where you would get a half hourly Cross Country Voyager service and north of Leamington with the WMR local services. Also how does this proposal score against the DTG LAMP process?
thank you for your comment, I believe this route is not too long as the vast majority of it is in the countryside. I have also included the LAMP process into this suggestion.
There are a several parts of this route that pass through built-up areas, particularly at each end of the route (London and Birmingham) and there are significantly more stations on this route then the current longest route in Tsw (Kassel-Würzburg) All being said I agree with what Vern said, if this route were to come to Tsw, it would likely be Marylebone - Banbury. As for rolling stock, most likely class 165 & 168 at launch with the class 68 possibly coming later as dlc.
do you think that London Marylebone to Oxford is a better route idea instead seeing as it would require less licenses, it is around 50 something miles in length, more modern and would allow for the GWR diversion scenario that i mentioned above?
Personally I think that Marylebone - Banbury is the best option, having the route go to Oxford instead would present a bit of a headache where the possible class 68 dlc is concerned and you could still have a Gwr class 166 layer between Banbury and King's Sutton. Small side note: If Dtg or a 3rd Party made the Chiltern line to Oxford instead of revamping/extending Gwe to Oxford, a significant portion of the community would likely be up in arms.
what about going to both banbury and including the branch to oxford? As well as including the small branch from princes risborough to aylesbury so its possible to complete the commuter services that run to aylesbury via high wycombe
I think London Marylebone to Oxford would be better than London Marylebone to Banbury because the Oxford branch is very modern and is only 8 1/2 miles long meaning that London to Oxford would be 50 miles (81km) total and London Marylebone to Banbury would be 62 miles (100km) long. Also, in regards to the Class 68, it wouldn’t cause much of a headache. The 68 has many services to and from Oxford and there is also a Class 68 with the title of ‘Oxford Flyer’. i will attach some photos below. Class 68 at Oxford:
The only bad thing about this is that if DTG ended up extending the London to Reading route as far as Oxford, there would be 2 routes in the game that go from London to Oxford. i do understand your concern though about how the community would react and i do know that the extension of the GWR route to Oxford is in heavy demand.
Just done some more research and I've come across some rather interesting yet unfortunate news, it appears that Chiltern might be planning to replace the class 68/mk3 sets entirely with one potential replacement being the Tfw class 175's.
Literally why I brought the game only to find I could not drive my local route please get this implemented ASAP DOVETAIL or I will no longer buy your products I want the entire route from london marylebone to birmingham snow hill via moor street as a driveable route and i'll buy it immediately just a shame the just trains one already built won't work in train sim world
That's not quite how it works mate, you are only a tiny part of the customer base, so quite frankly DTG won't give a rat's arse if you go off stropping because they don't make the exact route you want. Hate to be so blunt but its the way things work. I would too love to see this route, but there are many other routes I'd love to see as well, many of them more than the Chiltern.
So, you bought TSW because you wanted to drive a route which is not listed anywhere as being in the game at all? Also, demanding they make the route (which they have no obligation to) isn't the best thing to do.
Huge yes for me! Some more 16X action! Chiltern as a new operator would be nice to see! More variation between the Class 16X series and with the Class 68, it would be an very fun route!
I would say we are more likely to see a London-Oxford and Aylesbury route rather than a London-Brum route. As DTG have said recently they want to do more network routes with a load of short services that you can do end to end. maybe the mainline could go to Banbury for freight moves and some short parts of GWR services from there. But that’s more likely.
My man. It wasn’t listed as a DLC in the game so your point is invalid. also if you wanna play it right now get a PC play it on TSC. Done.
I'd love to see some branch lines too! - North Warwickshire Line to Stratford-upon-Avon from Birmingham - The line to Stratford-upon-Avon from the mainline - A possible extension to Kidderminster - The line to Coventry - Perhaps if DTG is extra daring, they could add the rest of the Chiltern Railways network which at that point would be the lines to Aylesbury Vale Parkway. Great suggestion!
