Developer Incredible Trains will soon launch their first Train Sim World route Add-on. London Overground Mildmay line is coming on 4th March!

London Overground Mildmay line: Stratford - Willesden Junction
    [IMG]

We announced this route as part of 2024’s Season of Reveals, including information from Developer Johannes Hartmann, who is working on this route as a solo project under the banner Incredible Trains.

    About Incredible Trains
    [IMG]

We introduced Johannes from Incredible Trains in our November Roadmap as one of the latest Partner Programme Developers to join Train Sim World. They are the sole developer at this brand-new studio and got into game development by modding for Transport Fever 2, creating UK rolling stock and asset mods.

What began as a side project during a PhD, using the PC Editor and learning Unreal Engine, has since grown into gearing up to release their debut Train Sim World route add-on!

    The Route
    [IMG]

This packed, dense and highly detailed route covers 12 miles of the Mildmay line (previously known to some as the North London Line) between Stratford and Willesden Junction.

What is now recognisable as the Mildmay line was built across two decades of staggered development and expansion between 1846 and 1869. Avoiding central London, the route is vital for cross-city connections while avoiding the busy core and is also a vital freight artery as it links multiple main lines together.

Much like the rest of the London Overground network, the North London Line was due an upgrade through the 90s and early 2000s, and in 2007, TfL took over the line and overhauled it to be a modern commuter line with reliable and frequent service.

With TfL’s naming of all London Overground routes, the North London Line is now officially known as the Mildmay line, honouring the small charitable hospital in Shoreditch that has cared for Londoners over many years, notably its pivotal role in the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s, which made it the valued and respected place it is for many, particularly the LGBTQ+ community today.

Along the part of the route depicted in the game add-on lie plenty of familiar locations and landmarks to admire, including the ArcelorMittal Orbit at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

18 stations in total make for a style of gameplay where there is very little time to rest! Willesden Junction will make use of the high-level platforms situated above those used in West Coast Main Line South and other stations will have names familiar to locals and tourists alike, such as Hackney Central, Camden Road and Hampstead Heath. As a product licensed by TfL, all stations will be adorned with the relevant TfL branding.

Beyond the rails, the road traffic will include vehicles that represent London’s iconic black cabs and red double-decker buses. There will also be AI DLR vehicles at Stratford that operate in a similar way to the AI trams seen on Edinburgh – Glasgow / Fife Circle route Add-ons.

The route’s location across London also sees it cross and intersect with snippets of lines from other Train Sim World routes, with the HS1 tunnel entrance visible from Southeastern High Speed and Route Hopping available for easy access to other London routes in your collection.

    These include:
    • Stratford / Stratford Intl (Southeastern High Speed)
    • Gospel Oak (London Overground Suffragette line)
    • Willesden Junction (WCML South or Bakerloo Line)
    London Overground Class 378 ‘Capitalstar’
    [IMG]

Players of other UK Train Sim World Add-ons will be familiar with the Electrostar family of trains, which are widespread across the south of England and run a variety of different services using variants of the same style of EMU.

The following ‘Electrostar’ variants are already available in Train Sim World:
    • Southeastern Class 375 in Southeastern High Speed
    • Southern Class 377/2 in West Coast Main Line South
    • Southern Class 377/4 in East Coastway / London Commuter
    • Gatwick Express Class 387 in London Commuter
Their simpler controls and combined power / brake handle make them perfect to pick up for first time Train Sim World players, whilst more experienced players can interact with safety systems, PIS displays via the interactive screen and in the Class 377, speed controls.

The Class 378 ‘Capitalstar’ variant of this EMU first entered service in 2009 on London Overground routes to replace the ageing Class 313. Since 2010, the Mildmay line has been operated by the Class 378; originally delivered in 3-car formations, a 4th car was quickly added, and all were expanded to 5-car trains by 2017.

Visually, there are many differences from its ‘Electrostar’ relatives including its cab end doors which can be opened in case of emergency but are otherwise not used to interconnect multiple trains together in service.

Inside, passengers sit opposite one another with longitudinal seating much more suited to high density commuter service and this interior is adorned with the moquette style and distinctive signage of the London Overground.

The cab also has a new layout compared to the ‘Electrostars’ and dual voltage functionality is available – both overhead AC and third-rail DC.

    Timetable, Service Layers and Gameplay
    [IMG]

London Overground services will run at 8-trains-per-hour with frequent stopping patterns at all stations featured on this section of the line. Freight traffic and AI utilising other Train Sim World Add-ons will run on multiple mainlines that intersect and cross over or under the Mildmay line.

Efficient driving and quick reaction times will make or break a run to ensure all the stations are served within the confines of the timetable.

    Additional Service Layers
    [IMG]

Players with other Add-ons in their collection will be able to see and operate additional services along the route.

    These include:
    • London Overground Class 710 services from Suffragette line
    • (AI) LNER Class 801 Azuma trains from East Coast Main Line
    • (AI) Thameslink Class 700 services
    • (AI) HS1 services from Southeastern High Speed
    • (AI) EMT HST services from Midland Main Line
    • (AI) Class 350, Class 377 and Bakerloo Line trains from West Coast Main Line South
    • (AI) Avanti West Coast Class 390 Pendolino services
In addition, a selection of reskinned and unlicensed AI layers representing trains not currently available in Train Sim World are also available.

These AI services are formed of:
    • Reskinned Class 710 trains from Suffragette line, representing Elizabeth line services
    • Reskinned Class 710 trains from Suffragette line, representing Greater Anglia services
    • Reskinned Class 166 trains from Great Western Express, representing Chiltern Railways services
These services can be seen at Stratford and Hackney Central.

Train Sim World 5: London Overground Mildmay line: Stratford - Willesden Junction route Add-on will release on 4th March for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for £24.99/€29.99/$29.99

Preview Steam – Wednesday 26th February!
You’ll be able to join the Railfan TV team on YouTube and Twitch on 26th February for a preview of Mildmay line.

    Mastery Posters are coming!
You may have noticed a new addition to the Mastery Rewards UI - Posters. We're excited to share that the Mildmay line will be the first route to launch with this new reward type, and once unlocked it'll start to appear across all TSW5 UK routes!

We're not ready to share exactly what the Mildmay line reward looks like just yet, but additional posters for existing routes will be rolling out shortly afterwards - here's a reminder of how some of our German route posters will look in game:

This actually looks fabulous and while I had promised myself to hold back on buying routes for at least a short while, will most likely be getting this one!

    Hyped for this one.

Are there any playable freight services or just AI? It was a little unclear unless i missed it. I really enjoy the freight on Goblin- it's a nice way to take it slow and enjoy the scenery.

I repeat that I personally will not buy this half-neutered route, no matter how qualitative it has - I will wait for a discount on Steam, route is only worth half of its price for the length, imo

Great work! And let's don't forget that this is basically an one man project. Hope it gets extended some day.

I have changed my tune a little bit on this one, I still stand by the point that Richmond would be a more logical conclusion and allow for full end to end running... However, seeing the quality of this route and realising that developers with a team can't even produce the same level of detail, I want to invest in talent like this and encourage this talented individual to stick at it as he has done a smashing job... Nudge nudge, get it to Richmond eventually!

Just in the pictures alone I have confidence in his ability! Keep going fella, you'll do well!

Considering this route has only been developed by one person, l think the length of route and price is fine and l agree hopefully an extension to Richmond one day.

Hopefully we will see Alex or Harry with Matt on a stream next Thursday.

Wish it ended at Richmond, but it is what it is.
Still, it’s a day one purchase from me.
Very impressive for what’s been achieved by a single developer.
Will be keeping a close eye on incredible trains going forward.

Any class 66 services or rail tours?

Will we be able to use the rhtt or the cargo line packs?

I’ve become more and more impressed with this route as we’ve seen more and more screenshots. It looks like it’s going to be short but very busy with AI. The scenery also looks very dense and very recognisable. There is a new train and we also get the DLR as AI.

I’m going to get it if the preview looks good. It’s the area of London I stay in when I visit the UK, So pretty sure I’m going to enjoy it.

Well, I don't really need any more electrostars, bus stop routes or London scenery. So I would normally pass on this dlc.

But this guy deserves A++ for effort and for showing the big guys how to do quality.

So, providing the preview confirms the PR blurb, for less than 30 bucks, why not.

Oh oh, If I heard it right, it sounded like the sounds were recycled from the Class 377. Whilst similar, the Class 378 has a slight different traction motor.

I wouldn't want to second guess, but I'd imagine the difference could also be in the different gearing of the 378 (and 376 for that matter) and having 75mph compared to the 100mph for 375s/377/387s of your 'proper mainline' Electrostars?

Deserves all the praise he can get (sincerely), and I'd not want to tell other forum members what to do and far from it, but I'd encourage people to follow him and give such wonderful talent support. This is work he should be incredibly proud of and has definitely changed the opinion of a stubborn old bugger like me!

Or on Series S for that matter! Unfortunately, these as the kinds of questions that seldom get acknowledged, let alone receive a meaningful answer.

It looks pretty good in the pictures. If the quality is really that good, you can take an example from this man who could do it on his own. Unfortunately, sometimes teams of 10-20 people can't do such quality work.

This looks incredible! My only concern about buying is the core TSW bugs that may unfortunately affect this route, regardless of how well-made it is. Sincerely hope they can release the performance fixes for the core prior to this - as if so, I echo the sentiment of other members that this may be a day one purchase (rather than waiting for a discount).

Why it’s Not the Full Route from end to end?
So it’s a no Buy for the Price

Why is there so much focus on length? Quality over quantity, as it should be. Length isn't everything, nor should it be. Quality sells, quantity doesn't.

These sort of routes don't at all appeal to me, however, the quality of the route, all the potential layers, and the unbranded stock has made me want to purchase it for them alone.

So, we can expect a route with high quality of scenery and a variety of layers, it has the the potential to become another Suffragette line (high quality scenery but short route).

It's a pity that the line does not extend to Richmond and we can't experience the power switch between overhead line equipment (25 kV AC) and third rail shoes (750 V DC) at Acton Central.

As said previously a bit conflicted about this.
    Pros:
It does look nice and includes a new train.
All done by one guy (or a very small team) obviously enthusiastic about their work as opposed to certain other developers.
    Cons:
It really is very short and should have gone to Richmond and/or Clapham as the North London Line (and sorry I can’t bring myself to call it by the new politically inspired title).
My personal NLL era is the late 70’s/early 80’s, Broad Street and Class 501’s.
£25 is a bit steep for the length even with the new train and presumably, once again, no pre release purchase incentive.
I know from experience with Goblin and Glossop these short electric bus stop routes hold my attention for a couple of runs in each direction then rarely get played again.
Possibility of recycled sounds for the 378 is a yellow flag.

So this will probably not be an 1801 finger poised on Steam buy now for me on release date. Will just sit back and see what the initial reviews have to say and pop it on the wishlist for a sale later in the year. This release is going up against the likelihood we will also see the Cardiff and Dutch routes in the not too distant future plus JT’s WCML Expansion Pack, all of which are higher on my priority list.

Looks pretty well done. Superb quality from what I've seen. All the Ai that should be there. (Take notes dtg) a busy London overground route as it should be!

I will probably reinstall tsw and buy this on release date.

Not sure why you've added that caveat about a team, it's been made clear all along that, to quote the post in this thread, "Johannes Hartmann... is working on this route as a solo project".

Fair comment, well made. However regardless, anything being made for a payday has to be viewed dispassionately whether it’s a one man or twenty person team. Money is being asked in this case for a route that doesn’t go the full distance.

I’ll be buying day one. The quality & detail looks amazing. Hoping one day we get the Windrush & Weaver lines.

I wonder if dtg maybe put a limit on the route length. I think the guy making this would have been happy enough, making the full route. Considering what we see in the original thread.

This route is gonna be really busy with all the Ai traffic. Perhaps there's some limiting factors at play here.

I'll be buying it anyway. Been waiting a long time for Stratford domestic station to come to tsw.

I agree. Going by his other ‘London’ thread on here he probably had ambitions to create the whole length but I would imagine DTG told him to take a ‘slow & steady’ approach.
I’m sure there will be a route extension in the fulness of time.

One thing it does open up is a lot of routes running out of Stratford. I'm gonna put a bet on dlr in the future.
